Nelly Kim Furtado is a Canadian singer-songwriter, record producer and actress.

Early life and career[edit]

1978–1999: Early life and career beginnings[edit]

Nelly Kim Furtado was born on December 2, 1978, in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Furtado became musically inclined at a young age, learning trombone and ukulele at age 9.[1]

2000–2002: Whoa, Nelly![edit]

Furtado released her debut studio album, Whoa, Nelly!, in October 2002. The album debuted at number nine on the US Billboard 200 albums chart[2] and was well-received by most music critics. The album yielded the internationally successful single "I'm like a Bird", which topped the Canadian singles chart.

2003–2005: Folklore[edit]

Furtado released, Folklore, her second album in November 2003.

2006–2008: Loose[edit]

Furtado released her third studio album Loose, in June 2006. It debuted at number-one on the US Billboard 200 albums chart, selling over 219,000 units in its first week, becoming Furtado's first chart-topping album in the United States.[3] The album's first single, "Promiscuous",
