The Middle East Children's Alliance (MECA) is a non-profit charitable organization that was founded in 1988 by Barbara Lupin. The alliance was based in Berkeley, California and initially focused on aiding Palestinian children in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The organization expanded its focus in 1991 to protest the Persian Gulf War.[1]

Barbara Lupin founded Middle East Children's Alliance in 1988 and served as its executive director.[2] Lupin was an anti-war activist who previously was president of Berkeley Board of Education.

Public support[edit]

Dave Matthews Band first performance was at an event supporting Middle East Children's Alliance on March 14, 1991.
