Funding of research in Switzerland are funds devoted to support research implemented by Swiss universities and research institutions and by scientists and academics of any nationality working in Switzerland. Fundings are provided by public bodies (i.e. federal agencies, cantons, universities and organizations with a federal mandate) and private organizations (in particular foundations).

Federal funds[edit]

The Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) is in charged of education and research and it implements its mandate with the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI). The State Secretariat is responsible for the ETH Domain, and it coordinates the Swiss cantonal universities, the recognition of cantonal or foreign diplomas and Swiss participation in international projects in education. It is also responsible for the finances of the Swiss National Science Foundation and for Swiss participation in international research projects.

Swiss National Science Foundation[edit]

The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) is a science research support organization mandated by the Swiss Federal Government. Together with the four academies of sciences thy are designating to promote research in Switzerland. The SNSF provides funding for research projects, academic careers, programs, infrastructures and science communication. The foundation also provides research services (information, news and guidelines), a database of accomplished and current research (Research database 3P[1] and links to other funding opportunities.

CTI - Commission for Technology and Innovation[edit]

CTI - The Innovation Promotion Agency is also known as KTI - Förderagentur für Innovation and CTI - L'agence pour la promotion de l'innovation[2]. The agency supports market-oriented research and development projects, the creation and development of start-up companies, and knowledge and technology transfer.

SNIS Swiss Network for International Studies[edit]

SNIS Swiss Network for International Studies[3] is an institution founded in 2008 by the Canton of Geneva and the Swiss Confederation (State Secretariat of Research and Education) which supports interdisciplinary academic research in the field of international studies specifically focused on transnational phenomena. Within its organiation SNIS involves International Organizations which have their headquarter in Geneva[4]. The funding programme of SNIS provides support for research projects and international conferences; the programme also includes an award for thesis in international studies accomplished in a Swiss University. SNIS receives fundings from the State Secretariat for Education and Research of the Swiss Confederation, and the Department of Public Instruction of the Republic and Canton of Geneva.
