UK Connect Four Championship (UKCFC)[edit]

Starting Off[edit]

First starting in 2009 by founders Kevin Manning and Joshua Davies, on the basis of finding the best players in the UK of the family favourite board game Connect Four. They organised the event at Reynard Way Evangelical Church Hall in Northampton the first event was set on 25th July 2009. They had 22 players attend, the event was set out as a Knockout tournament where the loser out of 3 games will be taken out of the championship. After 5 hours the final match was played against Charlie Morrow and Sophie Thomas, with the first winner being Charlie after winning 2 - 1 he won a £50 amazon Voucher and free entry in the 2010 Championship to defend his title.

The family favourite board game, the UKCFC had over ten of the sets of the game so the event would run efficiently.

Post 2014[edit]

Due to the combination of costs, participants not signing up for the competition and more the increase in work load and family life responsibilities the founders Manning and Davies Struggled to organise the event for 2015, so they had to stop the events and stopped the organisation during May 2015 and informed current and past players about the closure of the organisation.

Honorary Players[edit]

These where the players during the time of the organisation were the most respected players over the total 286 members of the UKCFC these where selected over an online survey created and voted by the members as a tribute to the end of the organisation

Charlie Morrow[edit]

The first UK champion who struggled in other tournaments in the later years, but was a big influence in attracting new players to the tournaments and was seen as a figure head within the community as helping more novice players being able to improve.

Colm Clarke[edit]

The first player to win the championship back to back, and was the youngest player when he won in 2011 he was only 13 years old. His influence was on the 2012 tournament there was an greater increase in young members from joining in and competing. After coming third in 2013 his focused turned to Rugby union due to a having a trial for his home county of Birmingham.

Sophie Thomas[edit]

Being the first female to join the UKCFC and win the championship in 2013 after being in the tournament for the full 5 years, where she ended 2nd in the first event. She had the role as the Treasurer of the UKCFC ensuring that the event was getting money and being able to get an appropriate award for the winners. Also she was integral member as able to get sponsors for the event.
