Loonybin0 (February 22, 1856 – December 10, 2010) was a patient at Dorothea Dix Hospital.
Early Life[edit]
Loonybin0, born Loony Bin 0 (Loony Bin the Zeroeth) was born via immaculate conception to an unknown parent on an unknown date (later given as February 22nd) on the grounds of Dorothea Dix Hospital in the year of its founding, 1856. After having been discovered while wandering into one of several mental wards in the newly opened building, the toddler Loonybin0 was informally adopted by the hospital staff, particularly by Ms. Bonny Bonneville, under whose care Loony remained for several years.
Though Loony's exact sex could never be determined, it was often assumed he was male since he showed more in that respect behaviorally and physically. (Some staff reportedly noticed evidence of facial hair on Loonybin0 while he was still in his pre-teen years, though this was never confirmed. In later years, he remained perfectly clean-shaven. How he managed this remains a mystery since he was not allowed to possess any razorblades for fear of them falling into the hands of the suicidal patients with whom he often associated.)
Growing up on the Dix campus proved to be much easier than one might imagine for a child living in mental institution of that era. Even through hard times that the hospital experienced such as financial troubles, high staff and patient turnovers due to transfers to other institutions, psychotic breaks, or deaths, Loony remained upbeat. It was not until the sudden disappearance of Bonny Bonneville when Loony was 13 that his affect began to change.
