Guido Girardi Lavín (Santiago, (1961-01-24)January 24, 1961) is a chilean physician and politician from the Party for Democracy (PPD) and currently serves as a senator for the electoral district No. 7 for Santiago West.

During his political career he has been director of the Metropolitan Environmental Health Service, deputy, president and vice president of the Senate of Chile, and president of his political party. Girardi has also been involved in various controversial events.

His political work has been characterized for his endeavours with in public health and environmental policies. Moreover, the senator has been recognized for his protection efforts in environmental - such as the glacier protection law - and public health - such as the Food labelling and advertising law - as well as popular science such as being the main promoter of the Future Congress Chile. In 2007 he proposed establishing the figure of environmental crime, and has been a critic of the pension fund administrators of Chile.

Early life[edit]

Guido Girardi Lavín was born on January 21, 1961 in Santiago. He is the son of Rosa Eugenia Lavín Araya and the doctor Guido Girardi Brière, who was a deputy for the Metropolitan Region.[1] He is the brother of Deputy Cristina Girardi Lavín and Dino Girardi Lavín, councilor for the Municipality of Lo Prado between 2004 and 2016.[2] His primary and secondary studies were carried out at the Alianza Francesa School, where he was recognized for his athletic abilities through the "best athlete" award in 1977 and 1978, specifically stood out at the javelin throw. He has also shown a great interest in cinema and photography.[3]

He has been married since 1994 to Paula Echeñique, councilor for the municipality of Cerro Navia between 2004 and 2008. He is father of four children: Antonia, Luciano, Doménico and Elisa.[4]
