Jonas Myrin is a Swedish singer, musician and songwriter based in Los Angeles, California.[1] Myrin began his musical career in the early 2000s as a worship leader at Hillsong Church London and songwriter for various international Christian music acts. He is best known for his work with Matt Redman [2] with whom he won two Grammys for the song "10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)".

He has composed songs and/or produced music for artists such as Barbra Streisand, Idina Menzel, Andrea Bocelli, Lauren Daigle, Nicole Scherzinger, and others.

Myrin began a career as a solo artist in 2012.

Musical career[edit]

Myrin began songwriting at an early age. His parents, who worked as missionaries, provided Myrin with Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway records, which he has cited as a major influence on his work.[1] Myrin later moved to London, where he became active with Hillsong London and co-wrote several songs that were featured on various albums by Hillsong Music. As a songwriter, he wrote with various musicians such as members of Supergrass, Peter Bjorn and John,[2] and appeared in the 2002 music video for the Sophie Ellis-Bextor song "Get Over You".[3]

In June 2012, Myrin released his first solo single, "The Day of the Battle", which has been certified gold in Germany.[4] Later, he co-wrote "10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)" with Matt Redman (who performed the song). The song won two Grammys and spent 16 weeks at the top spot on Christian Radio and remained Number 1 on the Billboard Christian Songs Chart for four months.[5]

In 2018, Myrin began recording sessions for Barbra Streisand. He co-wrote and co-produced four songs on Streisand’s album Walls including “What’s On Your Mind”, “Don’t Lie to Me",[6] “The Rain Will Fall",[7] and “Better Angels”.

For Andrea Bocelli, he co-wrote “Gloria The Gift of Life”, which appeared on Bocelli’s album, Si, the first classical album to reach Number 1 on the Billboard 200 in the United States as well as on the United Kingdom's album chart. The song was featured as the end title of the movie Fatima. [8][9]

In March 2019, Myrin co-wrote “Victorious”, with Nicole Scherzinger, which she performed at the closing of the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi that year.[10] In the fall, he co- wrote “At This Table,” a song about inclusivity, for Idina Menzel’s holiday album A Season of Love.[11] It was one of the most streamed Christmas songs that year.

Barbra Streisand encouraged Myrin to resume a full-on solo music career, which he had left off in 2013. As a result, in August 2020, he released his own single, called “Not Alone”, on Capital Records[12] and an EP is set to follow by the end of the year. The lyrics of "Not Alone" were inspired by the isolation of the Covid-19 pandemic, and Myrin co-wrote it with Crispin Hunt (Lana Del Rey, Florence and the Machine, Ellie Goulding), and features Erik Arvinder (Childish Gambino, John Legend) conducting the Stockholm Symphony Orchestra.[13]

“It came to life for me during quarantine,” Myrin told American Songwriter magazine “I had friends call and sing me the chorus. It became our lockdown song. It’s like the song was waiting for such a time as this. That’s the incredible thing about songwriting; when you pen something, you don’t always know where it fits. But if we stay true to what the song is to be, the timing tends to work itself out.” [8]

Soundtracks[edit]

Myrin moved into soundtrack work with "Sadness" a song he wrote and sang for the soundtrack of the film, Rough Night in 2017.[14]

In 2020, he wrote “Together in This”, the end title song used for Jungle Beat: The Movie sung by Natasha Bedingfield.[15] In addition, he joined Idina Menzel in co-writing and recording a new song, “Noel (Just A Breath Away)”, that will be used in the end credits of the movie Three Wise Men.[citation needed]
