Lotus in Formula One[edit]

The Lotus name has been present in Formula One since the early days of the championship. Team Lotus, a sister company of Lotus Cars, entered Formula One as a constructor in 1958, and won seven Constructors' titles and six Drivers' Championships between 1963 and 1978. Team Lotus ended their participation in Formula One in 1994.

In 2010 the Lotus name returned to Formula One when a newly-created Malaysian-owned team used a licence from Lotus Cars owner Proton to race as Lotus Racing. Later in 2010 the team's owners then acquired the rights to the privately-owned Team Lotus name, and announced they would race as Team Lotus from 2011 onwards. Meanwhile, Group Lotus purchased a stake in the Renault F1 Team and announced that the team would race as Lotus Renault GP from 2011.
