Midodrine is a medication used for low blood pressure with standing that results in significant symptoms.[1][3] Evidence of benefit; however, was pending as of 2015.[1] It is taken by mouth.[1]
Common side effects include numbness, itchiness, urinary retention, and high blood pressure.[1] Other side effects may include slow heart rate.[1] It should not be used in people with an aortic aneurysm, heart failure, or prior heart attack.[3] Use in pregnancy may harm the baby.[3] It is a α1-selective adrenergic agonist.[1]
Midodrine was approved for medical use in the United States in 1996.[1] It is available as a generic medication.[3] In the United Kingdom 100 tablets of 5 mg costs the NHS £75 as of 2021.[3] In the United States this amount costs about 44 USD.[4]
