Jolla Ltd. (known also as JollaMobile) is an independent Finland based smartphone with Linux MeeGo design, product and distribute company.

History[edit]

The company was founded in 2011 by two former employees of Nokia. One of them, Jussi Hurmola was then the director of the Nokia's MeeGo program and an employee of Nokia with 12 years seniority and experience. Seeing in then time the negative attitude of the then leadership to Linux MeeGo said that, however, is a missed opportunity MeeGo to create a business income. The Nokia company has created a bridging program (the Bridge program) for redundant workers, which would help them realize their competence and skills to make money. In this framework, allow the worker to receive a loan of EUR 25 000. This support contributed to the creation Jolla Ltd. as a start-up'u operating within university business incubator.

Employees[edit]

By mid-2012 around 50 people has been employed, and recruitment is carried on still. The team Jolla Ltd. employees found most of the engineers who previously, as employees of Nokia, invented and developed a cult classic, the Nokia N9 and it's swipe interface UI.

Management[edit]

The management of the company consists of Dr. Antti Saarnio as Chairman and Finance, Jussi Hurmola as CEO, Sami Pienimaki as a VP and Sales, Stefano Mosconi as CIO and Marc Dillon as COO. [1]

Strategy[edit]

CEO Jussi Hurmola said that to survive in this market, the company must become a big player, then it can meet the competition. He said, which continues the work that Nokia started with MeeGo. The Jolla team is formed by directors and core professionals from Nokia's MeeGo N9 organisation, together with some of the best minds working on MeeGo in the communities. The company's name means dinghy in Finnish.

Jolla Mobile has been founded and is being established as part of Nokia's Bridge plan, which aims to help employees leaving Nokia start up new businesses.[2] Jolla Ltd. is not going to support Nokia N9, as it is the product of the different company.

On 2012-07-06 the Jolla Ltd. has declared that with international private investors and partners, Jolla Ltd. will design, develop and sell new MeeGo based smartphones. The Jolla team consists of a substantial number of MeeGo's core engineers and directors, and it is aggressively hiring the top MeeGo talent to contribute to the next generation smartphone production.[3] [4]

It was declared that with oncoming products it is planned to use: the core of system from the Mer (operating system) project, an own user interface by Jolla Ltd. but not the Harmattan known from Nokia N9, HTML5, Qt, and to continue building the MeeGo ecosystem. Planned is one devices, targeting "a mass-market" with smartphone aimed at general users. But with added "developer mode" it can also be aimed at advanced tech users.

CEO Jussi Hurmola says:

He also stated that only the products that can be delivered will be announced, hence no specification or launch timing was given at the moment. First product is to appear in 2012. [5]

The leadership consists of Dr. Antti Saarnio as Chairman, Jussi Hurmola as CEO, Sami Pienimäki as VP Sales, Stefano Mosconi as CIO, and Marc Dillon as COO.[6]

On 2012-07-16 Jolla established its first sales contract with D.Phone, Chinese phone retailer. D.Phone is one of the biggest retail network with around 2000 of retail stores in 25 provinces and municipalities in China. [7][8]

Jolla (mobile phone) unfair action - please help, and reverse it[edit]

  • Hello Anthony, you have deleted the page I have create Jolla (mobile phone) and by merging it with Jolla (phone) site have assigned the creation of this site and content to RaviC. This is not fair action IMHO, even if in good faith. Please note that Jolla (mobile phone) has been created by me, and over 95% of content has been created by me, OCEXYZ. This content is located here Jolla#First unveiled device you can see in Jolla article it has been created on 20th of May. This content was only copy-cut by RaviC, who has never contributed to this subject at all. I have also contributed in good faith following content from here Jolla#See also and here Jolla#external links.
  • As I care for Jolla article since beginning (I've created it) and care of this subject this created situation lead to assigning RaviC as author of created by me site Jolla (mobile phone), as author of created by me content, and using my personal contribution to farming the site which as author is assigned RaviC. I claim this is not fair situation.
  • RaviC has created wrong of meritum site Jolla (phone) because Jolla manufacture mobile phones, but not regular phones, and he just have copy-cut the content created by me and literally has added nothing from him. And by your action, as I can find in the following log:
08:01, 21 May 2013 Anthony Appleyard (talk | contribs) restored page Jolla (mobile phone) (12 revisions restored: histmerge)
08:01, 21 May 2013 Anthony Appleyard (talk | contribs) deleted page Jolla (mobile phone) (G6: Deleted to make way for move)

, you has assigned to him creation of Jolla (mobile phone) site which is not true. I have created this article. Considering that most of 100% of content created by me (see Jolla#First unveiled device and in page history is proof of my contributions on 20th of the May) and I have created Jolla (mobile phone), hence please reverse it as it was, so I have created Jolla (mobile phone) article.

  • As I regularly care and contribute for sites related with Jolla this will lead to situation when somebody has done exactly nothing, has contributed nothing of his own, used content created by me, sources I have found, content I have devoted time to create and contributed, and this person is to be assigned as author of site I have created? Why? Because I will be contributing to this subject still as I do from over 2 years I will be used for "farming" site which will be assigned to RaviC - I assume good faith always, but in this case I feel this is unfair situation. See rest of content is from Jolla#See also and Jolla#External links and some little of my own contributions. Especially considering that RaviC is not contributing to this subject or article anything, but have used my work for copy-cat perhaps to have one more site assigned to be created by him. It is of course nothing wrong when RaviC contribute to wikipedia his contributions, and to Jolla and related also of course, and this one also, or anyone else at all.
  • Can I ask you for help and get the shape and article creation to be assigned to my person as it is true as I have created Jolla (mobile phone) article, and also fair as it contains about 98% of content, sources, edition, contribution created by me (2% are later additions, by others) and it is my work/contribution assigned to someone else?
  • I know this is stupid situation, but I feel very bed with this, but I don't blame anybody for bed will, has happened just.
