The Mojitos is a four piece rock and roll band from the North East of England in the United Kingdom. The name mojito is a Cuban Cocktail.

The band achieved some measure of fame for their winning entry in the region's the Evening Chronicle newspaper's Battle of the Bands competition with Where the North Wind Blows.[1]

History[edit]

The band, Alan Elliot (lead singer/songwriter/guitarist), Sam Hayward (second guitar), Kevin Adamson (drums), Paul Sidey (bass) and Sarah White (keyboards) formed early in 2008 and played their first gig on 23 February, 2008 at The Echo Bar, a pub in Newcastle upon Tyne. The band gained a measure of local fame when Where the North Wind Blows, their submission to the Evening Chronicle's Battle of the Bands, won by a large margin. Since then, they have played at numerous events around the region and further afield at venues which include Gateshead International Stadium and the Biltmore Bar and Grill in York.

Around August 2008, Paul Sidey left to concentrate on his own musical ambitions and Mark Smith, a friend of the band at the time, took over as the band's bass player. In January, Sarah White made employment committments and left leaving the lineup as it is at the time of writing.

Live appearances[edit]

2009 will see The Mojitos' headlining at the Gateshead International Stadium's Relay For Life event, touring around the UK and releasing their second EP, 'Revolution of the brain'.
