Tile Work Techniques[edit]

Innovation in tile work techniques flourished under artisans from Kashan, whose expertise in advanced pottery paved the way for groundbreaking discoveries in glazing methods, such as luster painting. Initially created as a sealant or decorative finish for pottery, the Lustre technique evolved to be used in strengthening and adorning tiles. Alongside luster painting, another glazing technique called Lajvardina also emerged for tile decoration. Lajvardina characterizes the use of the color blue or turquoise to create decorative motifs accompanied by the embellishment of gold leaf detailing.[1]
