The Calcutta Chromosome: Part 1 – Advent is an upcoming Hindi-language sci-fi medical thriller film directed by Subhrajit Saha. Based on Amitav Ghosh's novel The Calcutta Chromosome, the film serves as the maiden venture of a planned two-part film. It stars Ritwick Chakraborty, Rahul Bose, Saptaparnaa and Radhika Apte. The film revolves around the travails of Dr. Murugan, who is in the quest of unearthing a fascinating discovery by Sir Ronald Ross at Calcutta which could possibly grant eternal life to humans. In the process, he comes across different people who help him acquire many new information regarding the same.
Announced in 2022, the film was supposed to be made as a series, but later the makers opted for a film adaption. Owing to the original novel being a detailed work of sci-fi, the film was touted to be made in two-parts. Principal photography started in December 2022, with scenes involving Massey and Saptaparnaa shot at Kolkata.
The remaining cast was confirmed in March 2023. Filming resumed thereafter, concluding on December. The film is now slated for a release on 10 July 2024.

Tonic[edit]
I wrote this story taking a cue from my own life. Over years, I had become extremely overconcerned about my father's wellbeing and as a result, tried to control whatever he did or wanted to do. One day he reminded me how he never controlled my action, instead was always there behind all my aspirations. I realised there are many like me who stifle their parents in the name of concern and that set the ball rolling for Tonic.
—Avijit Sen about writing the script for Tonic
Avijit Sen, who had worked as an assistant director to Rajkumar Hirani, made his directorial debut through Tonic.[16]
