Dr. Ishan Adhikari is a clinical neurophysiologist and neurologist who specializes in epilepsy, neuromuscular and autonomic disorder. Currently, he is affiliated with Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, United States of America (USA) and Medharma CliniX in Lalitpur, Nepal. With over two decades of experience, he has made notable contributions to the fields of neurology and medicine. Dr. Adhikari holds international degrees and has gained recognition, showcasing his commitment to improving healthcare systems and advancing neurology.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Adhikari is the founder of the Nepali League Against Epilepsy (NLAE), the Global Nepali Health and Research Centre (GNHRC), and the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Nepal (MDAN). These initiatives are geared towards enhancing medical research and the health community in Nepal, reflecting his dedication to practical and impactful healthcare solutions.

Currently, Dr. Adhikari resides in the USA with his wife and two children. He is affiliated to with Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, United States of America (USA) and Medharma CliniX in Lalitpur, Nepal.
He was born and raised in Kathmandu in a well-to-do, educated family. His father, political science graduate from an Ivy League university worked as a state advisor, mostly on political appointments, and his mother was an entrepreneur who started her own school. After completing his high school in Nepal, Dr. Adhikari traveled to different countries to enhance his medical knowledge and career.
Education and Trainings[edit]
Dr. Ishan Adhikari began his medical journey at Mymensingh Medical College, Dhaka University, Bangladesh, where he pursued his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree (1995- 2001). Subsequently, he returned to his home country, Nepal, and undertook an Internship at the National Academy of Medical Science (NAMS), Bir hospital, Kathmandu (2002-2003). Following this, he joined Nepal Medical College in Kathmandu, serving as a Medical Officer in the Department of Internal Medicine for the subsequent two years (2003- 2005).
In a pursuit to broaden his views on world of medicine, Dr. Adhikari moved to the United States of America. He pursued a Master of Science in Health Care Management (MS-HCM) at the University of New Orleans (2005-2007), developing a multifaceted understanding of healthcare administration. Following the completion of this degree, he joined the San Jacinto Clinic in Baytown, Texas, as a Medical Assistant in Neurology (2007-2008), where he gained firsthand experience in the intricacies of the American healthcare system.
To hone his expertise, Dr. Adhikari continued his journey at the New York School of Medicine, New York. Serving as a Clinical Research Scientist in Autonomic Disorders, Dysautonomia Center (2009-2010) and subsequently as a Clinical Fellow in Autonomic Disorders, Dysautonomia Center (2010-2011) both within the Department of Neurology,
Continuing his academic and professional journey, Dr. Adhikari joined the University of Texas Health in San Antonio, Texas, where he completed his Internship in Internal Medicine (2012-2013), followed by a Residency in Neurology (2013-2017), and a Fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology (2016-2017), all within the Department of Neurology.

Within the field of research, Dr. Adhikari has contributed significantly as a Co- Investigator to multiple studies, reflecting his commitment to advancing medical knowledge especially in the field of neurology. His works are as follows:
- Co-Investigator, Cardiopulmonary exercise testing for the evaluation of chronic anaerobiosis in postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). Sponsor: The Heartbeat Clinic, Dallas, TX.

Dr. Ishan Adhikari has been honored with distinguished awards which recognizes his significant contributions and expertise in the field of neurology and epilepsy. He has been presented the tittle, Fellow of American Academy of Neurology (FAAN). In 2016. He was conferred the title of Fellow at the American Epilepsy Society meeting, an acknowledgement of his dedication to advancing knowledge in epilepsy. In the same year, he was recognized as a Fellow in the J. Kiffin Penry Epilepsy Mini-Fellowship Program.
