Mohammad Abdus Sattar[edit]

With all due respect, surely an "experienced editor" would know:

  1. Not to add unreferenced information to articles AND
  2. Know how to use correct infobox parameters

Vote on article name[edit]

Hello. You are invited to take part in a 'Gordion knot vote' with three options on the future title of List of Indian inventions and discoveries. Regards Gun Powder Ma (talk) 09:42, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

May 2011[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in anedit war according to the reverts you have made on Kashmir conflict. Users are expected to collaborate with others and avoid editing disruptively.

In particular, the three-revert rule states that:

  1. Making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period is almost always grounds for an immediate block.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that representsconsensus among editors. You can post a request for help at anappropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you continue to edit war, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. --Eraserhead1 <talk> 07:34, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

I know that very well. Please DO NOT TEMPLATE the experience editors. Hope you know about that too! Shovon (talk) 07:52, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
You were both edit warring, and life's too short to give everyone personalised warnings... --Eraserhead1 <talk> 08:05, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
I was not edit warring. Of course, if you know the meaning of edit war, then only the difference will be visible to you. Enough said. Shovon (talk) 11:39, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
Just a little add-on. Life does not seem to be too short (or should it have been busy?) when it comes to again and again requesting for the unblock of a Sock puppeteer, who evidently shares the same point of view. :) Can't assume good faith mate! I'm sorry. Shovon (talk) 07:37, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
I don't give a damn about his point of view. He lives in a country which I don't live in, and belongs to a religion that I don't believe in. Its an internal matter as far as I'm concerned. All I know is that he's written some good content in multiple articles that seems reasonably neutral to my eye, and getting rid of editors who write good content is against the projects goals to create a great encyclopaedia.
Writing a personalised message that also links to all the resources for dispute resolution, would take a long time (though of course I'm doing it now), and not linking that content might mean you weren't aware of how to resolve the conflict. Though if you really dislike templated messages stick a box at the top of your user page, I'm sure there is one. --Eraserhead1 <talk> 09:05, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

Viva Kerala[edit]

Viva Kerala moved form Kochi many years ago. frst they moved to Kozhikode 9Corporation Stadium) and then to Kannur for the current season. The Website is not updated for a long time and is obsolete. At least please check where Viva Kerala played their home matches this season, before simply reverting something. Also read these articles first.

Well, their official website gave me a different picture. Also, you had not sourced the statements which lead to my revert. Anyway, thanks for pointing out. :) Shovon (talk) 07:09, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

On Goa 1961[edit]

Hm. Shovon76, please stop attempting to undertake major edits and deletions of material without discussion. Someone evidently felt it necessary to put up that material a while ago, and it has been there for a while. While I admit its tone isn't best and should be revised (and I would probably endorse deletion, since it does seem very POVish), it was bluntly deleted by an anonymous IP editor without explanation. This is a controversial page, as you well know. I reversed that deletion, to give the author of those edits time to review and inviting discussion over the proposal to delete it. If you believe it merits deletion, at least open up a discussion before doing so. It is best to resolve this without an edit war. Walrasiad (talk) 06:46, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi Walrasiad, please refer to the talk page of the article. Thanks.Shovon (talk) 06:50, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Ah. Thank you! Walrasiad (talk) 06:51, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Eden Garden's Capacity[edit]

The renovation is over and was filled with 80,000 viewers on 22nd May 2011 (Kolkata vsMumbai). The seating capacity was temporarilly reduced due to renovation, it wasn't permanent.
With Regards,
Iamgymman123 (talk) 04:15, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

Where did you get your information from? The renovation was done for increasing the comfort level of the spectators and to turn the arena in to a world class one. That's why the total seating capacity has been reduced. There is nothing temporary in that figure. Shovon(talk) 06:29, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

I mean more than 80,000 tickets were sold (as on Telegraph newspaper, Kolkata). The article on the newspaper cannot be wrong.
With regards,
Iamgymman123 (talk) 08:12, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

And the owner of Eden Gardens cannot be Indian Army. Iamgymman123 (talk) 08:16, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

Refer to the talk pages of the article on Eden Gardens. Do not fill the article with incorrect information. Shovon (talk) 18:30, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

Please check out the disussion[3].
With regards,
Iamgymman123 (talk) 04:45, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

My information is not incorrect and my hometown is Kolkata also I have seen matches at Eden Gardens, it so huge. And check out the last match crowd on Youtube, Listen after 8 minutes what commentators say. They say that, "The total crowd is more than 80,000". Please relpy of what you think about this!! Thanks!!
All my doubts are over now. And Maidan is the property of Indian Army, but thats a history of long back not actually the owner now. Its owned by Cricket association of Bengal (I hope). You can read this Maidan (Kolkata). History of more than 200 years back.
With regards,
Iamgymman123 (talk) 05:20, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

SOURCES:

In the picture you will find "CRICKET ASSOCIATION OF BENGAL" written on the board of the stadium, clearly Cricket Association Of Bengal is the owner of Eden Gardens.
LATEST SOURCE (VIDEO):

Listen to the commentators carefully (Listen them from 00:08:00). They say, "80,000 viewrs came to watch this match".
NO - MORE - INCORRECT - EDITINGS - PLEASE!!
Iamgymman123 (talk) 06:08, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Iamgymman123, please refer to the Wikipedia policies before contributing further. Some useful links for you are what are reliable sources, verifiability, what Wikipedia is not, no original research, synthesis of sourced contents. Please understand the policies and then work on improving the different articles. Also, from your sentences, it is clear that you do not even comprehend what is being said in the cited contents. I would, for the last time, request you not to change the cited information pertaining to the article. Thanks. Shovon (talk) 09:55, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

I really dont waste time to comprehend from outdated sources. Its not my original research first of all. I cited what the commentators said. If this keeps on happening, lets tell wikipedia to take up the matter. My sources are original and your sources are infact outdated. And its not your business to research about me or what I am here for.

Notification of Automated Replies[edit]

Hey Shovon76,

This is a friendly notification to inform you that automated notices are submitted to reported users on the WP:AN/EW noticeboard by User:NekoBot periodically during reviews of the page content to save editors from having to post their own notices and directly link to the report in question. Please see Wikipedia:Bots/Requests_for_approval/NekoBot and User:NekoBot for more information. -=- Adam Walker -=- 15:05, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Didn't know that. Thanks for pointing out. :) Shovon (talk) 16:59, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Talkback[edit]

Hello, Shovon76. You have new messages at Dabomb87's talk page.
Message added 17:50, 30 May 2011 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
You have been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours for edit warring, as you did at Eden Gardens. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.  Sandstein 21:55, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection.

What do I make of this? A Joke? Or Agree to the general perception about the quality of Wikipedia?[edit]

To set matters straight, I am not even interested in appealing this block. Edit warring? Come on. You must be kidding. After my edit was reverted for the 3rd time by the user, I did not even edit the article concerned, let alone revert his edits. Anyone can see the talk page of the editor, my talk page and the article's talk page to get an idea on the so called edit warsthat I was indulging in. Anyway, this is my last post in Wikipedia. Overall, it has been a good experience during the past 4 years with a few ugly incidents here and there. In between I had almost decided to leave the project once, but my belief on such a community project made me rethink the decisions. This time though, its different. I had been finding it increasingly difficult to devote time for editing. And this is the last nail in the coffin. I strongly believe that if Wikipedia would like to survive, then a minimum set of standards have to be set for becoming an administrator in addition to the current ones. These could be:

  1. A minimum age requirement
  2. Minimum level of educational qualification requirement
  3. At least a certain IQ & EQ levels
  4. Also a Psychological evaluation (which can be conducted online) needs to be done
  5. Last but not the least, a certain level of grasp over the language in which the Wiki is, else there's ample chance of an admin penalizing A instead of B.

No hard feelings and wishing all the very best for the project. Thanks. Shovon(talk) 04:36, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

P.S.:

  1. If some one wants to usurp my User Name in English Wikipedia, I shall have no problems and my user name can be transferred to that user.
  2. I may still be active in Bengali Wikipedia and will continue to use this username there.
  3. My passwords are safe and there is very little chance of any one else hacking in to this account.

Content of the e-mail sent to the blocking administrator pointing out the case in question[edit]

Please find below the mail, which I have sent to the blocking admin highlighting the whole issue. Please note that, I did not send this mail to argue for my block to be reviewed or lifted as I am done with this project I just wanted to point out why many serious editors have been leaving the project en masse and are being replaced by probably teenagers with a horrible grasp of the language and absolutely no understanding of the Wikipedia policies. Many a times, irresponsible actions by some of the Admins, who act more on their whims and fancies rather than adhering to the policies to the T, have resulted in irreparable damage to the project and have driven away serious contributors. This should not be construed as a personal attack on any one and everyone is free to draw their own conclusion after going through this mail.

Hi Sandstein,

This morning (as per Indian Standard Time) I was surprised to see the block message on my talk page and that too for edit warring on Eden Gardens. I believe that you have acted in good faith, but I just wanted to bring a few points to your notice:

1. My first edit (which cannot be termed as a revert, btw) in a while to the article was on01:52, 28 May 2011. I had no idea who had inserted the information, but evidently there were a lot of misleading/wrong information regarding seating capacities, owner etc. in the article, which I had corrected. The difference along with the edit summary can be seen from the link provided: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Eden_Gardens&action=historysubmit&diff=431233833&oldid=431229920

2. This was reverted by User:Iamgymman123 (his 1st revert) on 09:35, 28 May 2011. His edits were supported by stale and outdated pages from cricinfo.com andcricket.yahoo.com. The third source used was not an RS at all. He also removed a {{who}} tag in the process and changed the owner from Indian Army to Cricket Association of Bengal. The diff is available here: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Eden_Gardens&action=historysubmit&diff=431285912&oldid=431233833

3. My 1st revert was done on 12:13, 28 May 2011. In addition to the citation from The Telegraph, kolkata, I had also given another citation for the official iplT20.com site link in my edit summary on the current capacity and restored the {{who}} tag on a weasel sentence. The difference can be seen here: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Eden_Gardens&action=historysubmit&diff=431306527&oldid=431299403

4. This was again reverted by the other user on 13:49, 28 May 2011, which was his 2nd revert. The diff can be see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Eden_Gardens&action=historysubmit&diff=431306527&oldid=431299403

5. My 2nd revert was on 15:28, 30 May 2011 and here I did a mistake of clicking on the Rollback vandal button instead of Rollback. But once it was hit, there was nothing that I could do. I also did a bit of copy editing and corrected some discrepancies in the historical figures also. I also added a source from Times of India on the owner of the Eden Garden's premises to clarify any doubts in other editor's mind. the diff is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Eden_Gardens&action=historysubmit&diff=431626855&oldid=431602270

6. This edit of mine was again reverted by the other editor on 18:20, 30 May 2011, his3rd revert. This edit removed valid sources on Stadium Capacity, Owner, a {{who}} tag, removed some of the wiki links and undid the copy edits which I had done to the article. The diff can be seen here: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Eden_Gardens&action=historysubmit&diff=431644457&oldid=431626855

After this revert, I have neither reverted the edits, nor edited the article in question.

I tried engaging the user in Talk page of the concerned article, Eden Gardens, which can be seen here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Eden_Gardens#Seating_Capacity. From his responses, it is amply clear that he does not understand the policies and is not even ready to learn.

Our interactions in my talk page can be seen here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Shovon76#Eden_Garden.27s_Capacity.

I had also requested the page to be fully protected for the time being, till a consensus can be reached at the talk page of the article. Refer to this difference in Wikipedia requests for page protections: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Requests_for_page_protection&diff=prev&oldid=431634108

Lastly, I had reported the user at the WP AN/EW, which can be seen here:http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Edit_warring&diff=prev&oldid=431651434

I would like to believe that you had taken all this in to account while blocking me.

Unfortunately, I think Wikipedia is gradually becoming a place not suitable any more for reasonable & qualified people.

Auf Wiedersehen!

Shovon

Shovon (talk) 07:12, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

PS: As I write this, I have not received any responses from the concerned admin, i.e.User:Sandstein, although he has been active after that as can be seen from his contribution log. May be, he has no valid arguments to defend his action and so has chosen to exercise his privilege of not responding. :) Shovon (talk) 19:42, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
