Welcome[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for your help in copyediting articles.

I wonder if you would consider replacing the "generic he" with the "plural they" (in suitable circumstances). The singular they, when used as a generic pronoun, is usually considered a little less formal in style, and encyclopedias are supposed to sound a bit on the formal side. It won't always be appropriate, but if it is suitable in the specific context, then I hope you'll think about my suggestion.

Oh, I forgot: If you'd like to hang out with some other editors who also love copyediting Wikipedia articles, then feel free to drop by the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors and say hello. They're a nice group. WhatamIdoing (talk) 04:52, 20 September 2020 (UTC)

Removing links to official Facebook pages[edit]

The first line of the guideline section WP:NOSOCIAL links to literally says, "Except for a link to an official page of the article's subject," so it's not a reason to remove links to official Facebook pages of organisations in articles about those organisations.. --Paul_012 (talk) 08:57, 23 March 2022 (UTC)

The section on Official Links also specifies under the heading "Minimize the number of links" that: "Normally, only one official link is included. If the subject of the article has more than one official website, then more than one link may be appropriate, under a very few limited circumstances. However, Wikipedia does not provide a comprehensive web directory to every official website. Wikipedia does not attempt to document or provide links to every part of the subject's web presence or provide readers with a handy list of all social networking sites. Complete directories lead to clutter and to placing undue emphasis on what the subject says." It further specifies: "For example, if the main page of the official website for an author contains a link to the author's blog and Twitter feed, then it is not appropriate to provide links to all three. Instead, provide only the main page of the official website in this situation." So if the organization's official site is linked, its Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn pages should not be linked. Fair enough, thanks. You might want to consider mentioning this in your edit summaries instead, to better indicate the actual reason for removal. --Paul_012 (talk) 09:35, 23 March 2022 (UTC)
Good idea, thanks! I'll be sure to note that in the future. SimLibrarian (talk) 19:20, 23 March 2022 (UTC)

List of confectionery brands[edit]

In your edit summary, you say you removed entries without an article. Before saying WP:WTAF, you should have actually removed all entries without an article not just one that was an external link. You don't pick and choose. Be consistent and remove all. If not, don't remove any. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 08:16, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi, I'm not sure why you're saying I only removed one. I removed one with an external link, one with a red link, and one with no link at all. It looks like I did miss a few other no-link entries, so I've gone back and removed them as well. I really don't appreciate the accusatory tone of this note. A kitten for you![edit]

Hey there,

I used autohotkey to modify all the numbers semi automatically, made it easy. I just selected the number and pressed 'q' and it did all the work (& it can do more...).

To know more - http://autohotkey.com/

Might help you and other editors.

Here is the code: " q:: Send, ^k Sleep, 800 MouseGetPos, StartX, StartY Click, 173, 145 Send, {Home} Send, tel: Sleep, 800 MouseMove, StartX, StartY Send, {Tab} Send, {Space} "

Btw I have 2 suggestion: 1. Make it easy to contact other wiki users, like 1 big button to contact when someone visits user page.

2. Call number than redirect:

On clicking a link, it should popup buttons 1. To go to wiki or 3rd party page or 2. To Call (if number) or email (if email address) the link.

In the suicide hotline page, some numbers were redirecting to wiki page instead of being able to call which should be the primary function, AT LEAST on a suicide hotline page. Might save lives.

Thank you!
