Treacherous Intrigue is the upcoming concept album by American progressive rock artist Ben Markham. It was recorded at his home studio over a period of three months.
Recording[edit]
The entirety of the album was recorded in Markham's home studio in Orlando, Florida. This proved difficult, on part of there being a large family living in the same building. The house's vaulted ceilings and tile flooring throughout carried sounds remarkably, causing an amount of ambient noises on the record that Markham strove to deplete. Lacking the finances to purchase an elaborate recording apparatus, a simple desktop PC and inexpensive software was utilized. The studio was also being used as Markham's bedroom, making the space cramped, but he argues that this may have helped trap the sound waves in the room.
Concept[edit]
The album is themed to what Markham calls "classic espionage, like a James Bond flick or Bourne book". The story is never outlined in detail, but a rough storyline can be discerned. A weathered agent is assigned to an assassination mission, fails, recovers, and makes a second, successful attempt. The story is told entirely through sound effects, there are no spoken words on the album.
