Gayot.com is a hotel review and travel web site that is based in Los Angeles, California. When it was launched in 2002, the site mainly focused on providing professional reviews for both hotels and restaurants across the world. The restaurant rating system is a 20-point scale that is based off of the same system used by the Gayot Travel Guides. The rating is solely determined by the quality of a restaurant’s food, and other factors (such as décor or service) do not influence the score. Currently, the site has published more than 20,000 reviews for restaurants throughout the world. The website has also expanded to cover other topics, such as wine, spas, movies, automobiles, cookbooks, fashion, aviation and contemporary culture. The site also publishes various “lists,” that cover the top items or concepts within a certain field. Gayot.com is managed by the Gayot family.
