Languages Sindhi, Seraiki, Multani Religion Islam Related ethnic groups Sindhi Solangi (Sindhi: سولنگي‎) is a Sindhi Muslim tribe found in Sindh and southern Punjab Balochistan in Pakistan, India, Iran and Afghanistan. Origin The Solangi claim to have come originally from Arabia, to have settled in Sindh, thence spread to Multan in Upper Sindh, and later migrated to the Punjab by way of Multan and Sirsa.[4] The origin of the Solangi community is uncertain, with some members of the community claiming a connection with the Rajputs and others, believe that they are displaced farming communities who moved to Punjab from Sindh and Multan as Arab Muslim armies encroached. Historian also believes the community to be related to the Sindhi Solangi community mainly in the northern India and eastern Pakistan.[5] Some scholars have linked Solangi to the Solanki, an Rajput caste of India.

British Raj period The British favoured them for their "hard work, frugality and sense of discipline". Subsequent development of towns and cities and increasing urbanisation resulted in the value of the land settled by Solangi to rise significantly, and Solangi families thus flourished. Education was prioritised with the new-found wealth and the Solangi came to dominate the legal profession amongst urban Punjabi Muslims. Many used law to enter politics.[3]

History

It is said that they converted from Solanki,then into Solangi..Other civilized tribes like Rajput,Mallah & Mirbahar. Solangi are among the earliest tribes of ancient Sindh.They are also identified with the 'Mallah' of the Punjab and both have in common a sub-section called Manjari. All these, old Sindhi tribes are known under the common nomenclature of Sammat.Solangis are living in Sindh from Indus Valley Civilization 3300–1700 BCE.They inhabited Sindh when the irrigation system was under development and canals were under construction,at that time their occupation was Fishing. They number about 7 million all over the world. Solangi's are living in all the provinces of Pakistan.They are in majority in province of Sindh.
