What about the lead singer from Tool? I saw a picture of him somewhere with the Camarillo Brothers and BJ Penn (which dates things a bit), and there's a YouTube video of him reacting to a fan sneaking on stage during a performance by hip-tossing, taking his back and applying a rear-naked-choke (all while continuing to sing).

I notice this has been marked for deletion. I don't see how this can be "Non-notable collection of facts, should be merged into the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu article, or removed entirely." when the following Wikipedia entries are apparently okay:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_vegans http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_military_brats http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_prostitutes_and_courtesans http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_persons_from_Kerala http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Montrealers

These people share a common martial arts background, which implies a specific cultural context to their work and lives.

Per the notice, "You may remove this message if you improve the article or otherwise object to its deletion for any reason. " I am removing the message.

Fair enough, that's your right. You make good points about some of the other lists here, and you do appear to be making some good progress on the page, so it might be something worth pursuing. However, I'd still suggest renaming the page at least, to something more encyclopedic. I'd suggest List of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners or something like that. Reasons being that 1/The title should reflect that it's a list (like all those examples you gave above). 2/You should avoid undefined acronyms like BJJ in the title, because it makes it harder for people to realize what they're looking at. --Maelwys (talk) 06:43, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I'll rename the page as you suggest (as soon as the move button appears on my account...I think it takes 4 days from what I've read.) :) Cainewiki (talk) 07:46, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
Alright, I was bold and made the move for you, since you seemed to agree with the title I'd offered. Good luck in your continued development of the article! --Maelwys (talk) 13:01, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! :) Cainewiki (talk) 01:34, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
The page needs to be renamed (again) to sometihng like "List of Celebrity Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners" (a) to be accurate, and (b) to be consistent with, for example "List of judoka", which lists famous judoka, not celebrity judoka. --David Broadfoot (talk) 06:09, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I considered that too. I guess there's two options here, either expand the list to include non-celebrities as well (to include all notable practioners, whether or not they're famous for something else already) or rename as you suggested. Caine, since you're the main contributor to the article, do you have a preference on which was this goes? --Maelwys (talk) 12:24, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
My original intent was to capture -celebrity- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners. This is a conversation that comes up frequently on BJJ or grappling-related forums. Everyone in the sport already knows the famous BJJ instructors and competitors, but often the topic comes up 'who is a student of BJJ that we would know as a personality who has gained fame in some -other- area, such as movies, music, television, even science, technology, finance, etc.?'. Adding -famous- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners inclusive of the top competitors, MMA fighters, etc. would be doable, but I think I would still like to pull out celebrities in a separate section of the page. I'll work on the format this weekend some and set up the layout and edit the header so that people who want to contribute will have an area for adding top competitors and instructors and know that it's okay and that it's obvious where it should go. 67.174.185.183 (talk) 20:21, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
I think that celebrity practitioners deserve their own page. After all, it's really a not much more than a trivia section. And famous/professional competitors deserve their own page too. Both with separate links from the 'See also' on the main BJJ page. --David Broadfoot (talk) 01:25, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
I have to admit I am partial to maintaining my original intent. As it was suggested earlier that if this page is to remain celebrity-only it should be renamed to reflect that, I will move the page as has been suggested to "List of Celebrity Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners" and link as has been suggested from the main BJJ page. List of celebrity judoka - AfD[edit]

I started a page called List of celebrity judoka and now it too has been nominated it for deletion. Please join the discussion at this articles entry on the Articles for deletion page to help preserve both our lists.
