User:Theclaw1/Glitches in Pokémon video games

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Many long-time Pokémon players are aware of various glitches, particularly in the Red and Blue versions. Missingno. and 'M. have become widely cited when referencing this. Lesser known is that while the original Japanese games indeed contain most glitches of their international relatives, several notable differences exist. One is that the popular exploit where the player speaks to the Old Man in Viridian City, than uses FLY to reach Cinnabar Island, and finally SURFs on its coastline does not work. No random encounters occur on those tiles in the Japanese game. As a consequence, item duplication of this manner is only possible via the Mew glitch since it is triggered by the appearance of normally-unobtainable Pokémon. Similarly, SURFing on the Seaform Island coastline also does not trigger encounters. Theclaw1 15:13, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
