Wikipedia Assignment 3 - List of Wikipedia Articles

Web Television

This article has been tagged as needing “additional citations for verification” and having “original research.” I can aim to clear these out. The article lacks a section on the economic details of how web television programs are produced. This may be due to the huge diversity of original web television content, but it may be helpful to readers if it covered a few of the ways these shows are funded, distributed, and generate revenue. I couldn’t find much useful scholarly information on the Gale Virtual Reference Library, possibly because the industry is evolving rapidly. Searches through other databases may turn up more information.

Mobile Game

This article has been tagged as needing “additional citations for verification” and one in need of cleanup. The section “Industry Structure” is quite short, I’m sure there is research out there I could add. The article does not have a section on the social effects of mobile games. I may be able to add some information on how mobile gamers tend to play compared to gamers using traditional consoles and computers. I read Reality is Broken about a year ago, which talked about the blurred line between mobile games and apps that motivate people to improve their lives or their community (like RunKeeper). I can look into that book’s sources to find original research and studies. A section on that blurred line or more general societal effects of mobile gaming is a possible topic for this assignment.

Machine Translation

This article has been tagged as “needing additional citations for verification.” I personally find this topic interesting, since I have worked a lot with digital translation tools for Chinese and English and have noticed its many quirks. I don’t know much about the field but I am willing research it. One possible way for me to contribute to this article would be to add information on how future technologies may be able to overcome its many limitations.

Solar Car

This article has not been tagged with any requests for improvements, but it focuses primarily on the mechanics of how these cars work. It lacks sections on the history of solar cars and the viability of mainstream adoption of this technology. It is likely that a good amount of research already exists on how the solar car came to be and the reasons solar cars are not as of yet economically viable or practical for the average consumer compared to gasoline-powered cars or plug-in electric cars.

Confessional Shot (does not yet exist)

This would be an article about the rise and current use of the confessional shot—a casual shot in which the speaker or actor looks directly into the camera—in Internet videos. This was a relatively unusual shot until instructional videos and video replies became popular in the mid-2000s.
