Good idea! Not sure that I am an expert in law. The usual references are probably useful as well as the law itself. I am not aware of other English language references besides those mentioned in Cultural Properties of Japan or National Treasures of Japan. (This does not mean that there are no others.) Unfortunately I won't be very productive contributing to the article due to lack of time. Bamse, started the article about the law here. For now, I just pasted in material taken from the National Treasures article and reworked it a bit. Hm, don't really know where to go from here since I have never written a wikipedia article about a law. Maybe one could go into the actual law text and generate an overview (headings only) of the various articles like in the ja-wikipedia article. Then it might be interesting to know who proposed this law and how it was enforced (If I remember correctly the new National Treasures are from 1951 while the law is from 1950). bamse (talk) 09:44, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

April 20

Hi Urashimataro! Just noticed that you are writing about tōrō which is a very good thing. Are you also going to cover (gilt) bronze lanterns like that in front of Tōdai-ji's daibutsuden (lantern is a national treasure)? I remember seeing a similar lantern also at Yakushi-ji (between the two pagodas) and Kōfuku-ji seems to have a national treasure lantern in its museum. I don't have material either. They basically look like dai-dōrō but are made of metal. The one at Kofuku-ji is this, Todai-ji's looks like this and Yakushi-ji's lantern looks similar to Todai-ji's (see File:Yakushiji.jpg or File:YakushijiPagoda.jpg (same lantern at different angle)). Because they appear alone and in prominent position in front of the main hall, I thought they might have had other purposes besides illumination, maybe they were/are used ritually??? However I don't have any sources to support this idea, just wondering. bamse (talk) 09:45, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
