The London Academy of Excellence, commonly abbreviated to LAE is a Free School in England, located in Newham, London. LAE is one of the handful of Free Schools opening in September 2012 and the first to be exclusively for Sixth Form.

Information on LAE[edit]

It is the first Sixth Form College to be set up under the coalition's Free Schools scheme, headed by the Education Secretary Michael Gove. Uniquely, it will have a limited curriculum of 12 key subjects: Maths (+ Further Maths); Physics; Chemistry; Biology; Geography; Economics; English; History; French; Spanish; Religious Studies; Music and admit just 150 in its first year, eventually rising to 400 in all.

Subjects are being sponsored by a group of 8 independent schools, hence the logo, each of which has a record of excellence in that particular sphere.

In alphabetical order, these schools are: Brighton College, Caterham School, City of London School, Eton College, Forest School, Hampton School, Highgate School and King's College School Wimbledon. With excellent pastoral support and careful academic guidance, the aim is to prepare ambitious students for entry to the top universities in Britain, the so-called Russell Group, and to the leading medical schools.[1]
