Bali United Basketball Club, commonly referred to as Bali United, is a professional basketball club based in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia. It is a part of the Bali United multi sports club, and was founded on 18 December 2020. The club competes in the Indonesian Basketball League. Their home arena is the GOR Praja Raksaka.

History[edit]

Since 2019, the owners of Bali United, Pieter and Yabes Tanuri have the desire to create a professional basketball team in Bali and planned to register Bali United to participate in Indonesian Basketball League (IBL).[2] In accordance with Bali United's motto, Beyond Football, they have a mission to achieve success inside and outside of football.[3] Their plan is also in line with the team expansion carried out by IBL, especially for teams outside Java.[4] In August 2020, Bali United along with three other teams advanced to the final verification process to fill the two new team slots at IBL.[5]

On 1 October 2020, IBL management has decided to accept two new teams as participants in the competition, namely West Bandits Solo and Bali United.[6] Bali United Basketball started its first competition in 2021 season.

Bali United Basketball Club was officially introduced on 18 December 2020 in a virtual press conference and broadcast live on the club's official YouTube channel with the tagline Bali Bernyali. As the first professional basketball team from Bali, they carry a vision to become a superior basketball team in Indonesia and become a center of growth for basketball sports talents. Its missions include making achievements at IBL, fostering local young Balinese talents in the field of basketball, growing a vast basketball community network on the island of Bali, and leading to future prospects as a go-international team.[7] They also introduced Aleksandar Stefanovski as their first head coach and 15 players who would be part of the team for the 2021 season.[8]

Identity[edit]

The main colors of Bali United Basketball is the same as the football team, red, white, and black, which are based on the Hinduism sacred color, Tridatu and led to the nickname Tridatu Warriors.[9]

The team's logo shows the word Bali United on top, with the abbreviation of the club's name (BU) and the black-and-white background that is identical to the poleng cloth in Bali symbolizes Rwa Bhineda.[10] One difference with the logo version of their football team is the basketball image located at the bottom of the logo that replace the football image.
