SØNØS is the alternative r&b solo project of Jonathan Sherer (born April 6, 1998), an American musician, producer and composer from Toledo, Ohio. Founded in 2018, SØNØS has released one EP, six singles, as well as a number of unofficial demos and covers. Sherer is also a member of the spoken-word, ambient duo Hotel Books with vocalist Cameron Smith.[1]
History[edit]
In 2018, Sherer began uploading a series of songs under the name SØNØS. The following year, he released his self-produced debut EP, entitled "THE SPACE,"[2] featuring producer Nick Ingram of Capital House Studio, in Columbus Ohio.
A cultured performer, songwriter, and producer from Toledo, Ohio—after acting as the songwriter and catalyst behind a number of projects, Sherer began releasing/producing music under the moniker "SØNØS" in Winter, 2018. He released a series of two debut singles, "The Neverending"[3] and "The Party, From My Room,"[4] between the months of November and December, described as "catchy, dreamy alt-pop with memorable vocals" by Hertz Magazine[5]. The following year, he released the self-produced debut EP, entitled "THE SPACE[6]", enlisting co-producer Nick Ingram of Capital House Studio,[7] in Columbus Ohio[8]. The independent release marked a stylistic departure from previous releases which was well received, and regarded as showcasing "world class production", as noted by The Bandcamp Diaries[9]. Succeeding his debut EP with another series of new singles. Released independently in Spring, 2020: "HEADLIGHTS AND GOLDEN HAZE[10]" is a hypnotic, moody, and atmospheric track, followed shortly after by a lo-fi track entitled "we float like the moon" accompanied by an 8mm film visual from the 1940s[11]. Most recently, in the summer of 2021, Sherer released two more songs; "better[12]", and "SHADOWS", accompanied with an official music video[13]— both of which received buzz through a popular local radio station in Toledo known as The Zone[14], as well as a series of covers ranging from Bon Iver[15] to Black Sabbath.[16] Sherer has since alluded to an upcoming debut LP, or sophomore EP via social media.[17] A collaborative effort with his longtime creative partner Cameron Smith of Hotel Books has also been alluded for 2022.
