Atlantic Hurricanes[edit]

The reverts over the use of "transition" versus "evolve" are absolutely priceless. Everybody is getting in on the act with a revert for him/herself. Each time from the first one no one has talked about the issue at all. I couldn't resist joining in. I really hope other users do as well. I have a journalist friend who should publish a story about it.--192.173.128.34 (talk) 18:02, 10 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure why you prefer "evolve", aside from the fact that transition to you is a poor verb. "Transition" is not on the words to watch page either. YE Pacific Hurricane 19:18, 10 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
True, but transition is a noun that has only very recently appeared in use as a verb <40 years, and much of that time according to Oxford Dictionary used in nautical publications only. It actually serves little purpose as a verb because there are so many much better existing (and valuable) words to carry the meaning desired here - shifted, transferred, evolved, converted, changed into - and in the context of cyclonic storms; weakened or strengthened. All of these (and others as well) convey as much or more information than the lazy mangling of "a transition" into "transitioning" or "transitioned", which sound awkward and discordant even before considering how unnecessary they are.--192.173.128.34 (talk) 17:25, 20 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
