February 2021[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Unfortunately, content you added to Elaine Chao appears to be a minority or fringe viewpoint, and appears to have given undue weight to this minority viewpoint, and has been reverted. To maintain a neutral point of view, an idea that is not broadly supported by scholarship in its field must not be given undue weight in an article about a mainstream idea. Feel free to use the article's talk page to discuss this, and take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. FunnyMath, this is nuts. All the IP did is change the successor in the infobox from the acting successor to her permanent successor, which is actually the dominant presentation on Wikipedia. This is a content dispute, and a flagrant misuse of a warning template on your part. ― Tartan357 Talk 01:58, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Tartan357 and 2600:387:6:803:0:0:0:3B: I apologize for reverting your edit, IP. I don't have much experience editing articles about US politicians and didn't know that was the usual style. I'll keep this in mind from now on. FunnyMath (talk) 02:10, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
FunnyMath, I appreciate your apology. Just so you know, it's not the revert that I thought was improper (it's okay to disagree on content, after all) :) Rather, it was your use of the fringe viewpoints warning template that bothered me. This is for seriously problematic content such as conspiracy theories and science denial. Please read WP:FRINGE and check out the fringe theories noticeboard to get a better understanding of the circumstances in which using this warning is appropriate. ― Tartan357 Talk 02:14, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Tartan357: I understand that my use of the fringe template was inapprorpiate and went overboard. I could see that the template makes it seem like I'm accusing someone I disagree with of holding a fringe view, which is hostile, but that was not my intention. I'll read those two links you provided and use the fringe template more appropriately in the future. FunnyMath (talk) 02:27, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
