Russian Athletes[edit]

Howdy, why are you going through all Russian athletes and asking for citation for their results? Paulpat99 (talk) 19:38, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm only asking for citation where editors are putting in uncited text. That's a no-no. It appears to be rampant, however. There should be citations. Wikipedia 101. Why - are you putting in uncited text? --2603:7000:2143:8500:8C39:13B2:D692:ACA3 (talk) 19:40, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As per @Lugnuts said the results are sourced by the links in Externals links section Paulpat99 (talk) 19:43, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please point me to WP policy that says that ELs replace RS refs. I have not seen that. Actually, I see the opposite; while inline citations/references are requred: "A reference section should not be confused with external links or further reading sections, neither of which contain sources that were used to build the article content." And obviously that's not the standard wp approach across sports articles by any means. Otherwise, there would never be a need for a ref when a competition result was in the text - which most obviously is not the approach taken. Someone else could of course properly challenge and delete uncited text. Most of the time, my approach is to tag it. Hoping it is accurate, and that someone will supply the RS ref supporting the text. But an editor would not be in the wrong to challenge and delete uncited text. 2603:7000:2143:8500:8C39:13B2:D692:ACA3 (talk) 19:45, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
