Happy editing! Also, I think you're pretty cool :-) Greetings from a sort of SARS-CoV-2–obsessed editor, —Happy New Year from Biscuit-in-Chief :-) (/tɔːk//ˈkɒntɹɪbs/) 22:42, 3 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

However, could you maybe include reliable references to all claims in articles? And if you are Áine O'Toole, then please see WP:COI. —Happy New Year from Biscuit-in-Chief :-) (/tɔːk//ˈkɒntɹɪbs/) 23:01, 3 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your kind words! I'm (as you can probably tell) a complete wikipedia editing newbie! I am Áine O'Toole, and was pointed towards the pangolin wikipedia page (I didn't know we had one, it was really cool to see!). Reading through it I noticed some inaccuracies about how the tool works and who developed it. I don't think there's a conflict of interest per se as I'm not posting opinions only facts about the software and the developers. I didn't realise that could be an issue, so instead this week I've spent some time updating the cov-lineages.org website, the cov-lineages GitHub organisation, and the pangolin documentation there (updating documentation is a never ending process!). Perhaps this is the best way for me to contribute as that could then be used as reference material for the wiki page, without it coming across as a COI. :-) AineToole (talk) 12:54, 13 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, AineToole. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Phylogenetic Assignment of Named Global Outbreak Lineages, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Greyjoy talk 10:28, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
