Hi thanks for creating this article. Is it partly a translation from Russian Wikipedia? Mccapra (talk) 21:15, 16 February 2023 (UTC)

No, it's not. There is no such article there. Why? Alaexis¿question? 21:59, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
ok thanks. I ask because if there is such an article I should link to it, and for copyright attribution there should be a record that material was drawn from that page. But if it’s a completely fresh creation none of that applies. Thanks for confirming. Mccapra (talk) 22:14, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
Got it. I might create such an article in the future! Alaexis¿question? 22:28, 16 February 2023 (UTC)

DYK for Foreign trade of medieval Novgorod

On 15 March 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Foreign trade of medieval Novgorod, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that traders from Novgorod supplied medieval western Europe with fashionable furs? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Foreign trade of medieval Novgorod. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Foreign trade of medieval Novgorod), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. NEDA Infobox

Hi! I was trying to update the infobox for the National Eating Disorders Association article.

I am super new at this, but the citation in the infobox is some kind of code and I can't figure out how to put the reference I want to add for it.

Do you know how to do that? 68.175.80.14 (talk) 20:10, 15 June 2023 (UTC)

Fixed it for you. The code is actually the name of a reference defined elsewhere in the article and yes, it's hard to figure out. You can read more about the citation syntax here. Alaexis¿question? 20:48, 15 June 2023 (UTC)

Question

I am considering writing a draft for the Russian state from 1478 to 1547. Grand Duchy of Moscow article puts the end date at 1547 though this fails to account for the centralized state formed under Ivan III and does not even have a section on Vasili III (1505–1533) or Ivan IV (1533–1547). Just a brief mention about Ivan IV being crowned tsar. I have found a lot of good sources that mention the formation of a new, centralized state under Ivan III, after the annexation of Novgorod. Hence the article titles Ivan III of Russia and Vasili III of Russia but we only have the Muscovy article. There is ru:Русское государство but this covers up to 1721 and I do not want to write an article that duplicates Tsardom of Russia. It could be an option to expand Tsardom of Russia to include from 1478 but this would probably require a RM first and I do not imagine there will be enough support or even interest to expand the existing article. So at the moment I am thinking about a new article focused on the aspect of history from 1478 to 1547. What are your thoughts? Thanks. Mellk (talk) 12:07, 23 June 2023 (UTC)

There is actually a 300-year old gap in Russian history articles as Kievan Rus ends with the Mongols and Tsardom of Russia starts at 1547. This gap is bridged by articles about individual states like Great Duchy of Lithuania, Muscovy and Novgorod but I think that Wikipedia would benefit from having an overview article (what Riazanovsky called Appanage Russia).
The article about the 1478-1547 period that you propose would cover a significant part of the gap and therefore I think it's a great idea. I'd be happy to help as much as I can. Not sure about the starting date - it feels more natural to start at the beginning of Ivan III's reign but if you found sources that consider 1478 to be the pivot year that's fine too. Of course all periodisation is arbitrary to a certain extent. Alaexis¿question? 20:11, 23 June 2023 (UTC)
That is a good point, I think it would also be good to have an article that serves as an overview of the period after Kievan Rus since it is just scattered across articles about principalities. Maybe something like History of Russia (1721–1796) since we only have Timeline of Russian history covering before 1721. Anyway, I will start working on a draft for the centralized state in the meantime. For now, I will use 1478 but we can examine sources later to determine whether 1478 is appropriate or a different start date should be used. Thanks. Mellk (talk) 12:05, 24 June 2023 (UTC)
I also recently created Sovereign, Tsar and Grand Prince of all Russia if you are interested in reviewing. Mellk (talk) 06:04, 25 June 2023 (UTC)

That's already very good! What you should do next is add wikilinks and section headers. E.g., you mention general Berthier who already has an article, so the first time you write about him you should wikilink him. Take a look at the way that article and other biographical articles are divided into sections. Alaexis¿question? 19:39, 31 August 2023 (UTC)

I told the IP user, unless that is part of the article's title, but the user continues to do so [1] and butcher the table by removing decision numbers. Can you deal with them? I can't because my health is terrible and I don't want to risk an edit war. --Minoa (talk) 12:23, 18 September 2023 (UTC)

Articles for deletion

Hello @Alaexis. I'm thinking of requesting for a deletion of following articles: Maida of Aukh, Chakhig, Khour I, Khasi I, Khasi II, Surakat, Battle of Gebak-Ghala, Yanbek, Battle of Arm-Kurt and so on... but I'm afraid it will be challenging (due to the large number of them) to show how these articles are clearly lacking (completely) WP:RS or are just simply WP:HOAX. Would you be interested in helping me in that? Best regards, WikiEditor1234567123 (talk) 19:41, 4 October 2023 (UTC)

The number of articles is not a problem in itself if you can demonstrate that their author has consistently misrepresented sources or used blatantly unreliable ones. You should make sure your WP:AFD case is strong because the articles look legit with all the references.
You may want to prepare a draft in your own user-space and then I can review it. I haven't reviewed all these articles and for now I have no opinion regarding these articles.
If you think that these articles' authors acted in good faith it's a common courtesy to notify them of your concerns, possibly they'd be able to rectify the issues you've identified. Alaexis¿question? 20:55, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
Hello @Alaexis. Could you please check Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Maida of Aukh and see if I made the request correctly? Could you also give your opinion there? Best regards, WikiEditor1234567123 (talk) 14:12, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
Hello Alaexis again. I forgot to mention this article Battle of Ushkudzhe that seems to actually have some ground to exist as an article as the primary sources mention such region as Ushkudzhe (localized by some in Akusha, Dagestan), but I'm thinking of renaming this article to simply "Uskudzhe" and have all the information related to it be there. Imo, we don't need these articles about battles when we have little information about them. What do you think? Best regards, WikiEditor1234567123 (talk) 18:53, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
Well, we've got a policy for that. If it's just mentioned briefly in some primary sources and there are no reliable secondary sources which analyse it then it shouldn't exist as a separate article. Alaexis¿question? 20:38, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
Alright, I will try to make something out of that if I have time. Could you please rollback the recent vandalism in Simsim and Mongol invasions of Durdzuketi (I'm not sure how to do it myself)? It seems like these articles should be protected as they're frequently attacked by random IPs... WikiEditor1234567123 (talk) 20:55, 6 October 2023 (UTC)

Battle of Achadara and related articles

I've just come across two articles by Shnorakalutsyun (talk · contribs) tagged for speedy deletion as hoaxes. Unfortunately, I've had to decline both since they aren't blatant and obvious (and I don't have the book to verify). I do agree with the concerns, though, and think that you should definitely file an AFD since it's quite possible that the articles were machine-generated. Looking at the user's edit timeline, some articles appear to be written in as little as 10 minutes. Now maybe I'm just dumb, but I know I cannot possibly write an article that quickly. If some of the articles can be confirmed at AFD to contain hoaxes or other misinformation, I'd be happy to just nuke all of the articles. Cheers! Hello, Alaexis. Thank you for volunteering to be a mentor to me and other contributors! Since my contributions are likely to be mostly composed of translations at this time, I wish to ask: does translating content require searching for references in the target language, or would that simply be a courtesy? Thank you again in advance for your attention, and I hope that you and your loved ones are enjoying the holidays. --SapphirePimpernel (talk) 09:06, 10 December 2023 (UTC)

@SapphirePimpernel, the policy says that non-English-language sources are allowed, but English-language ones are preferred, all other things being equal. As you can see, replacing non-English-language sources is not mandatory, and should not stop you from contributing, but if you happen to know an equally good English-language source, you should add it as it would help the average reader.
Of course, sources may be challenged, especially if you're editing in a controversial area, and other editors can ask for exact quotes or other details that would allow them to assess the reliability of a source. Alaexis¿question? 12:25, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
I understand—thank you for your help. SapphirePimpernel (talk) 17:39, 10 December 2023 (UTC)

About the tied children in the Be'eri Massacre talk page

Hello! I hope I'm not bothering you but you might remember me from the comment I made that there were indeed tied children in the Be'eri Massacre, on its specific talk page I gave you an Israel Hayom article which contains testimonies of ZAKA volunteers who actually were at all the kibbutzim, towns and the Nova party as a source, and you said "The Israel Hayom article does not give the location where people were tied to each other" so I replied to your message you might have missed it but this Israel Hayom article does say there were tied children in Be'eri: "Yossi Landau a senior volunteer of the organization, shares his feelings from the sights he witnessed in Kibbutz Be'eri: "We saw children hugged with their mothers, shot. We saw parents and children in the same room, facing each other. Their hands were cuffed behind their backs. By all indications, they must have been severely abused." I'll be glad if now that you saw that the article does say there were tied (handcuffed) children in Be'eri you'll add it as a source. Thanks Tikatan (talk) 00:16, 12 December 2023 (UTC)

I agree, this was pretty much my argument too. Alaexis¿question? 10:06, 14 December 2023 (UTC)

Update the Number of displaced people

I want you to update the number of people displaced in Gaza. It is now 2 million refugees. 91% of the entire population were displaced. It's according to X (formerly Twitter) post from December 21, 2023. https://twitter.com/AliciaJ1985/status/1737961681794498946 “About 2 million out of 2.2 million people in Gaza have been displaced-almost an entire population turned to refugees. More than 50,000 Gazans have been wounded, but only eight hospitals out of 36 are operational..Nearly half of the people in Gaza are starving” 173.44.89.180 (talk) 23:43, 23 December 2023 (UTC)

This is an opinion piece, not sure it's a reliable source. It's more effective to post such requests here, in that case more editors will see it and someone would usually respond. Alaexis¿question? 07:07, 24 December 2023 (UTC)
