I got the computer with this IP last year, and I don't think teaneck is gay. I seriously do not know why this is happening.  On Saturday April 30, 2016, in conjunction with a global campaign, the Guggenheim will host its fourth Wikipedia edit-a-thon — or, #guggathon — to enhance Wikipedia's coverage of modern and contemporary artists from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, and to counter geocultural systemic bias on Wikipedia. The Guggenheim aims to further the goals of the Guggenheim UBS MAP Global Art Initiative, and build on the model of campaigns like the Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at the Guggenheim: Women in Architecture, Wikipedia Asian Month, and Art+Feminism. New and experienced editors are welcome. The event will include a training session for participants who are new to Wikipedia and Wikipedia specialists will be on hand to provide basic instruction and editing support. The WikiCup is over for another year! Our Champion this year is

WikiCup 2019 March newsletter[edit]
And so ends the first round of the competition. Everyone with a positive score moves on to Round 2. With 56 contestants qualifying, each group in Round 2 contains seven contestants, with the two leaders from each group due to qualify for Round 3 as well as the top sixteen remaining contestants.
Our top scorers in Round 1 were:
- L293D, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with ten good articles on submarines for a total of 357 points.
Adam Cuerden, a WikiCup veteran, came next with 274 points, mostly from eight featured pictures, restorations of artwork.
MPJ-DK, a wrestling enthusiast, was in third place with 263 points, garnered from a featured list, five good articles, two DYKs and four GARs.- Usernameunique came next at 243, with a featured article and a good article, both on ancient helmets.
Squeamish Ossifrage was in joint fifth place with 224 points, mostly garnered from bringing the 1937 Fox vault fire to featured article status.
Ed! was also on 224, with an amazing number of good article reviews (56 actually).
These contestants, like all the others, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews on 143 good articles, one hundred more than the number of good articles they claimed for, thus making a substantial dent in the review backlog. Well done all!
Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.

Hi Alansohn. In case you did not receive my response on my Talk page, I'll just reinsert the message here on your talk page. If you agree that listing a few stores on a mall article would not classify as 'puffery', then why exactly did do you remove the list of stores then? If you agree that simply having a list of a few stores isn't 'puffery', then I'm glad we both have a mutual understanding. WikiCup 2023 September newsletter[edit]
The fourth round of the competition has finished, with anyone scoring less than 673 points being eliminated. It was a high scoring round with all but one of the contestants who progressed to the final having achieved an FA during the round. The highest scorers were
Epicgenius, with 2173 points topping the scores, gained mainly from a featured article, 38 good articles and 9 DYKs. He was followed by
Sammi Brie, with 1575 points, gained mainly from a featured article, 28 good articles and 50 good article reviews. Close behind was
Thebiguglyalien, with 1535 points mainly gained from a featured article, 15 good articles, 26 good article reviews and lots of bonus points.
Between them during round 4, contestants achieved 12 featured articles, 3 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 126 good articles, 46 DYK entries, 14 ITN entries, 67 featured article candidate reviews and 147 good article reviews. Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.
Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them and within 24 hours of the end of the final. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.  Hello and welcome to the April 2024 newsletter, a quarterly digest of Guild activities since December. Don't forget you can unsubscribe at any time; see below. We extend a warm welcome to all of our new members. We wish you all happy copy-editing. Election results: In our December 2023 coordinator election, Zippybonzo stepped down as coordinator; we thank them for their service. Incumbents Dhtwiki and Miniapolis were reelected coordinators, and Wracking was newly elected coordinator, to serve through 30 June. Nominations for our mid-year Election of Coordinators will open on 1 June (UTC). Drive: 46 editors signed up for our January Backlog Elimination Drive, 32 of whom claimed at least one copy-edit. Between them, they copy-edited 289 articles totaling 626,729 words. Barnstars awarded are here. Blitz: 23 editors signed up for our February Copy Editing Blitz. 18 claimed at least one copy-edit and between them, they copy-edited 100,293 words in 32 articles. Barnstars awarded are here. Drive: 53 editors signed up for our March Backlog Elimination Drive, 34 of whom claimed at least one copy-edit. Between them, they copy-edited 300 articles totaling 587,828 words. WikiCup 2024 April newsletter[edit]
We are approaching the end of the 2024 WikiCup's second round, with a little over two weeks remaining. Currently, contestants must score at least 105 points to progress to the third round.
Our current top scorers are as follows:
- Sammi Brie (submissions) with 642 points, mostly from 11 GAs about radio and television;
voorts (submissions) with 530 points, mostly from two FAs (Well he would, wouldn't he? and Cora Agnes Benneson) and three GAs;
Generalissima (submissions) with 523 points, mostly from 11 GAs about coinage and history;
SounderBruce (submissions) with 497 points, mostly from a FA about the 2020 season of the soccer club Seattle Sounders FC and two GAs;
Tamzin (submissions) with 410 points, mostly from a FA about the drink Capri-Sun and three GAs;
Kusma (submissions) with 330 points, mostly from a FA about the English botanist Anna Blackburne and a GA.
Competitors may submit work for the second round until the end of 28 April, and the third round starts 1 May. Remember that only competitors with the top 32 scores will make it through to the third round. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs. Location mapping of prominent NJ cities/munucipalities in North America[edit]
Hi Alansohn! How about a compromise regarding location pushpin-mapping Atlantic City, Princeton, and Trenton onto North American maps, if not Earth maps? For example, Quebecois people may know that New Jersey is on the East Coast of the U.S., but they might still like to get a better handle on and context as to where, for example, Atlantic City is located relative to their own location, when they want to travel there. Seems like a pretty innocuous and potentially beneficial addition. All three of these locations are relatively cosmopolitan, and two of the three actually have commercial flights which may at some point reach Canada. What do you think? - I don't see a reply here. I would like to restore North American pushpin maps on the articles of the three aforementioned locations, but only if you will not intend to revert them, in which case I will hold off. If on the other hand I see no objection from you here for a couple of days, I'm going to interpret that as a signal that you would not be thrilled with these edits but will nevertheless tolerate them and let them stand. - Castncoot, all of these cities are in the United States, a fairly well-known country. Many people in North America on Earth have heard of it and know where it's located. Even in articles for cities that are even more cosmopolitan than Princeton and Atlantic City, such as New York City, don't specify their location in the continent or planet. It's simply not needed for any purpose to provide any more context than location in the United States. Alansohn (talk) 04:30, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
- NYC does, but that's besides the point Alansohn. It's a nice additional amenity to have at one's fingertips, just like, for example, mentioning the change in population between 2000 and 2010 in the lede, when it is readily found in the demographics section in the population history table by decade. - So my hope is that you may have warmed up to my proposed edits above, regarding the North American pushpin maps in the aforementioned articles. I'm planning to add these edits tomorrow if you don't tell me in advance that you would plan to revert them. I wouldn't be in the least offended if you tell me in advance that you would plan on reverting them, in which case I would avoid posting these edits in the first place, in order to avoid an unpleasant reversion after the fact. - Castncoot, inclusion of maps of North America or Earth is utterly ludicrous. Any person who can access Wikipedia for an article about any place in New Jersey will be familiar with the United States. Anyone who doesn't know where the United States is on the planet Earth can dig deeper. Without broader consensus to add these maps for North America, Earth of the Solar System, they should not be added. - Alansohn, I respectfully disagree. There's something known as nuance and context, where one attribute added to one NJ municipal article would not belong in another NJ municipal article due to inherent differences between the municipalities themselves. I've been asking you to respond for ample time now and you chose not to do so until after the fact. I'm not going to add any further entries, as no other NJ municipalities are notable enough to warrant them; but I would respectfully ask you not to revert anything already done, as I had courteously asked you in the paragraphs above. - Do you travel much outside the United States? I travel all over the world frequently, and I think you're quite far from the reality of international geographical perception. What makes Edison or Lakewood more worthy of global context than Woodbridge or Brick is simply that the former two have highly prominent ethnic and/or religious communities that are internationally famous, while the latter two communities do not. - Alansohn, I respectfully disagree. There's something known as nuance and context, where one attribute added to one NJ municipal article would not belong in another NJ municipal article due to inherent differences between the municipalities themselves. I've been asking you to respond for ample time now and you chose not to do so until after the fact. I'm not going to add any further entries, as no other NJ municipalities are notable enough to warrant them; but I would respectfully ask you not to revert anything already done, as I had courteously asked you in the paragraphs above. - Castncoot, inclusion of maps of North America or Earth is utterly ludicrous. Any person who can access Wikipedia for an article about any place in New Jersey will be familiar with the United States. Anyone who doesn't know where the United States is on the planet Earth can dig deeper. Without broader consensus to add these maps for North America, Earth of the Solar System, they should not be added. - So my hope is that you may have warmed up to my proposed edits above, regarding the North American pushpin maps in the aforementioned articles. I'm planning to add these edits tomorrow if you don't tell me in advance that you would plan to revert them. I wouldn't be in the least offended if you tell me in advance that you would plan on reverting them, in which case I would avoid posting these edits in the first place, in order to avoid an unpleasant reversion after the fact. - NYC does, but that's besides the point Alansohn. It's a nice additional amenity to have at one's fingertips, just like, for example, mentioning the change in population between 2000 and 2010 in the lede, when it is readily found in the demographics section in the population history table by decade. - Castncoot, all of these cities are in the United States, a fairly well-known country. Many people in North America on Earth have heard of it and know where it's located. Even in articles for cities that are even more cosmopolitan than Princeton and Atlantic City, such as New York City, don't specify their location in the continent or planet. WikiCup 2024 May newsletter[edit]
The second round of the 2024 WikiCup ended on 28 April. This round was particularly competitive: each of the 32 contestants who advanced to Round 3 scored at least 141 points. This is the highest number of points required to advance to Round 3 since 2014.
The following scorers in Round 2 all scored more than 500 points:
- Sammi Brie (submissions) with 707 points, mostly from 45 good article nomination reviews and 12 good articless about radio and television;
- Generalissima (submissions) with 600 points, mostly from 12 good articles and 12 did you know nominations about coinage and history;
- SounderBruce (submissions) with 552 points, mostly from a featured article about the 2020 Seattle Sounders FC season, three featured lists, and two good articles;
BennyOnTheLoose (submissions) with 548 points, mostly from a featured article about the snooker player John Pulman, two featured lists, and one good article;- voorts (submissions) with 530 points, mostly from two featured articles (Well he would, wouldn't he? and Cora Agnes Benneson) and three good articles.
The full scores for Round 2 can be seen here. So far this year, competitors have gotten 18 featured articles, 22 featured lists, and 186 good articles, 76 in the news credits and at least 200 did you know credits. They have conducted 165 featured article reviews, as well as 399 good article reviews and peer reviews, and have added 21 articles to featured topics and good topics.
Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed during Round 3, which starts on 1 May at 00:00 (UTC). Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. Lack of clarity in board member counts on several New Jersey school district articles[edit]
I ran the error avoidance script I compiled in the past couple days in reverse to fix the 'comprised of' replacements within quotes that I accidentally made in my original replacement run, so most, if not all, are now back to how they were written in the source material.
Whether due to how the articles were automatically generated, changes to how individual districts are run since the creation of those articles, or a combination of both, I noticed that several New Jersey school district articles (such as Knowlton Township, Woodlynne, Brigantine, Pitman, Plumsted Township, New Hanover Township, and Magnolia school districts) listed board member counts that contradicted the figure stated in one of the sources given. As in most cases it listed 7 members versus the source's claim of 9, I'm guessing that while the board does have 9 members, this comprises 7 elected members and the two that those seven then appoint, with the source stating 9 being a database that doesn't take that into account. As I wasn't certain, I marked each with a contradictory tag until they can be reviewed for thoroughly, though if the boards in school districts of that type are indeed composed of 7 elected trustees and 2 appointed members, making that clearer would be beneficial. In the case of the Magnolia school district, the article had listed 5 despite the source again stating 9, so I'm not sure what happened in that case.
However, per the aforementioned inaccuracies, instances where number ranges are written like 'grades 10-12' instead of 'grades 10 to 12', and the outdated list of schools that was on the article for Trenton, New Jersey before I replaced it with an updated table, it seems that more effort should be put into ensuring that the hundreds of articles that you auto-generated are accurate, formatted properly, and remain up to date. It would certainly be more worthwhile than being deliberately contrarian about areas of focus of other Wikipedia editors. -CoolieCoolster (talk) 07:08, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
- CoolieCoolster, sadly, many Wikipedia editors fall into the trap of believing that they are contributing to the encyclopedia if they make as many edits as possible. Once falling into this trap, many such editors become obsessed with trying to find incredibly trivial mass changes to pump up their "score", the number of edits they've made. In the grand scheme of things, such trivial edits as adjusting the length of a dash should be made by bots, as they require no brain power whatsover and are implemented by editors maniacally pressing the "save" button every few seconds. By your own count that you feel you have to share with the public at User:CoolieCoolster, more than 20% of your edits were devoted to the utterly trivial task of making a dash a little longer, something you claim to have done 9,000(!) times. While this mindless task seems like a gigantic waste of time to me, it does appear to actually be implementing a standard set in the Wikipedia Manual of Style.Not so for "comprised of". There is no policy, guideline, manual of style or other Wikipedia mandate that prohibits its use. It's in widely common usage and is included in millions of direct quotations. The fact that you were so mindlessly obsessed with "fixing" this non-problem that you did not notice that you erroneously changed some 50-60 instances of "comprised of", sends a message that the bigger problem is the effort to solve this non-issue.I do agree that there are issues where there are internal conflicts in the sources about the size of boards of education. Remarkably, until dealing with a mass of pointless mass edits that introduced huge numbers of errors, I was dealing with this exact issue by systematically reconciling the article for school districts with the contents of the latest state report, including the district description and the roster of officials included therein.It is truly a bit rich to be lectured about editing practices by someone with a fetish for changing dash sizes a few hundred times per hour. In the future, when you make other equally mechanical mass edits, it would certainly be worthwhile on your part to make sure that you aren't screwing up articles.I'm sure that there's some equally pointless effort to "correct" split infinitives or dangling participles; maybe that could be your path to shameless self promotion in the path followed by too many other such users. - I'm not sure why you feel the need to criticize other editors for their preferred tasks, especially in the case of tasks such as en dash correction where the Manual of Style leaves no ambiguity as to what is or isn't correct. Whereas the commonality of that issue is a result of the en dash's absence from keyboards, the frequency at which 'comprised of' is used is a result of the obscurity of its opposing definitions, which, whether or not one categorizes as a grammatical error, can be easily disambiguated with an unambiguous synonymous term.
- As I mentioned, while my edits on April 22 did in several cases replace quoted instances of comprised of in references, I fixed most remaining instances following your comment yesterday by reversing the negative lookback formula I compiled to prevent such errors in more recent edits:

The [bB]oard|The Township Committee|the Board of School Estimate, which|(?:operates under the Township Committee form of|form of municipal) government and|(?:The|Our) Board of Education|government. - While I wouldn't have tried mass-replacing instances of 'comprised of' in regular articles, as I at times wouldn't be able to replace it with an equivalent phrase accurately, the formulaic means by which these articles were written means that each instance was replaced with a fitting alternative based on context wording. When means of error prevention as listed above are included in the process, it is a relatively consistent means of making intended replacement edits.
- If any given grammatical or punctuation error were confined to one article, I'd be glad to fix them all with one edit and be done with it, but as they are instead spread out across hundreds or thousands of articles, the only means of fixing them without wasting a substantial amount of time is coming up with a script capable of replacing erroneous uses while leaving legitimate uses as they are. As with any process, it takes a few broken eggs to make an omelette, but after some fine tuning it works well. In the case of any such replacement process, if I'm told that some of my edits have been erroneous, I use the same process to go back and fix those errors. In any case, there are clearly more instances of dashes needing fixed than there are New Jersey related articles using 'comprised of' in prose, so for now I'll focus my efforts on less controversial error resolution. However, given that you have a page opposing what I can only assume was Giraffedata's attempts to fix instances of 'comprised of' in New Jersey related articles, is important to note that regardless of who it is that makes such an edit, having created the articles doesn't grant you any more say in regards to edits of prose (versus those that erroneously edit quotes) than any other editor. -CoolieCoolster (talk) 21:57, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
- CoolieCoolster, keep up the work on those dashes. You have the Manual of Style to back you up.Not so much for "comprised of". Merriam-Webster's definition not only makes the usage clear, but provides a number of sources from major newspapers and publications from the past week. I can provide thousands upon thousands of official governmental sources and reliable and verifiable sources showing that the usage is standard. Trying to "fix" the problem of usages of "comprised of" is as pointless as trying to prevent sentences ending with prepositions or boldly fixing split infinitives. If you make an omelet, you have to break eggs; you broke more than 50 articles in order to accomplish nothing meaningful and only fixed the problem because you had been caught, in most cases a week after the dozens of errors had been made.The worst part of breaking 50 articles is that you obviously have not been reviewing your work. When you're too busy maniacally pressing enter and not checking your work, mistakes will inevitably multiply. This edit to the Vineland Public Schools broke a direct quote and was one of 23 edits you made in that same minute (see here for the ballpark of that edit). Please see WP:AWBRULES, which apply to all such bot-like editing, which states that "You are responsible for every edit made. You are expected to review every edit, just as if you were making an edit using Wikipedia's edit form when editing by hand. Do not sacrifice quality for speed, and review all changes before saving."You cannot possibly have reviewed the finished product of each and every edit when you're spending less than three seconds per edit.
