Job queue[edit]

I was just wondering why edits to template boxes are either not effective or not immediately effective. Is there something particular about them that delays or doesn't allow changes, at least from certain editors? Thanks. Andrei Iosifovich (talk) 03:49, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The delay in seeing your changes take affect occurs because of a bug in the page caching. When you edit a template, the software sometimes doesn't realize that the changes to the template have an effect on pages which use the template. Since the actual source text of the page itself remains the same, the software thinks that it is ok to show the cached version of the page without rebuilding it with the template changes. At the template help page there are some tips for clearing the cache and getting the latest changes to show. I hope that answers your question. --Megaboz (talk) 04:25, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is not actually a "bug". It has to do with how busy the servers are. When you edit a template, the servers must update all of the pages which the template is transcluded on. However, if the servers are overloaded, then this is put onto the back of the job queue for later processing, when the servers are less stressed. To force the servers to update the template transclusion on any particular page, perform a null edit to that page. Happy editing!--Aervanath lives in the Orphanage 04:28, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Andrei, what's with removing the redlinks? These exist for a reason - they encourage users to fill in the gaps! From Wikipedia:Red link: A red link, like this one, signifies a link to a page that does not exist in Wikipedia. Sometimes it is useful in editing article text to create a red link to indicate that a page will be created soon or that an article should be created for the topic because it would be notable and verifiable. I'm sure that Prof Michael Wise (for example) amply fulfils this criterion. Pterre (talk) 16:29, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

List of couples with British titles in their own right[edit]

Hi. Well-done. Excellent job. Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 23:58, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You rv - The 1st Earl of Stockton and Dame Dorothy Macmillan from the article. Did you forget to restore them after resectioning? I did not replace as I don't know if it was intentional or unintentional on your part. Yours, Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 11:46, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that. I was uncertain whether they merited a position, since Harold Macmillan was only a peer after his wife's death. I initially removed it, meant to put it back if I could see other similar examples, and ended up forgetting and leaving it out. If you think it should be there I certainly won't remove it again. You are now a Reviewer[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 04:46, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, It looks like you created the article Royal descendants of John William Friso, Prince of Orange. It was recently nominated for deletion here and it seems like you were not notified of the nomination. Disambiguation link notification for April 3[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited William Sackville, Lord Buckhurst, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Lord Buckhurst. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Notice

The article List of last scions has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The scope of this article is unclear, potentially huge. Its encyclopedic relevance is dubious. Also, it is not a list of individuals at all.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Sort keys that are not in page name[edit]

Hi, I noticed that the sort key "St Pol" for the article Joan, Countess of Ligny was added by you many years ago.[1] This is one of several sort keys for members of Category:French suo jure nobility which are not helpful, since the key words do not appear in the page names. Please would you revise or remove any such sort keys in that category? – Fayenatic London 07:48, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
