This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Ballymacoll Stud, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.ballymacollstud.com/history.cfm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. November 2009[edit]

Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia. While objective prose about products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Thank you. JamesBWatson (talk) 12:56, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest[edit]

If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. For more details about what, exactly, constitutes a conflict of interest, please see our conflict of interest guidelines. Thank you. JamesBWatson (talk) 13:04, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Ballymacoll Stud, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of Ballymacoll Stud and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. JamesBWatson (talk) 13:03, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright[edit]

I see you have removed a copyright violation notice from Ballymacoll Stud, with the edit summary Removed Coren Bot reference. I am the author of the text on the website in question.

Since anyone can create a Wikipedia account, we cannot take your word for it that you own the copyright. You may wish to follow one or other of the following steps:

However, it is only fair to mention that, even if the copyright issue is cleared up, it is likely that the article will be deleted anyway, as it seems to be intended to promote a company, which is against Wikipedia policy.

I hope that the above advice is of some help to you. Please feel welcome to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions. JamesBWatson (talk) 13:01, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ballymacoll Stud[edit]

I am taking the liberty of copying your comment from my user page to here. This way all the discussion about this is in one place, which I find much more helpful than having it split between two different user pages. If you want to contact me about it again, I suggest leaving a comment here, and put {{talkback|Ballymacoll}} at the bottom of my talk page: this will give me a message telling me to look here.

Hi James,

Thanks for sending me a message about my article. It was the first time I have added an article and obviously I have not understood some of the rules. I will try to clarify my position and you can advise as to the best way to proceed. Ballymacoll Stud is a privately owned stud farm, that my father manages for the family. I designed and maintain the website for the stud. The stud does not operate in a commercial manner and does not actively advertise or promote itself in any way.

As a regular user of wikipedia I have noticed that the stud has been referenced in many articles but no one had created an article for it. I had hoped that someone would create such but eventually I decided to do it myself. I think that the stud merits an article on wikipedia. I will send an email to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org from the domain admin account authorising usage of the material. I will also edit the article to remove any text that expresses an opinion so that it only displays facts.

Thanks again and please give me an further advise you may have.

  1. I have had a quick glance at the article after you last edited it, and it now looks much less like promotion, so it should avoid deletion on those grounds. However, I have not examined it in detail, so I can't promise that either I or someone else may not find details that need to be edited.
  2. You have been given two days to establish copyright. You said above you would send an email, so if you have done so this should be OK.
  3. You should be aware that there is often distrust of people editing articles about businesses or other affairs that they have a personal interest in; you may come across reference to "conflict of interest", commonly abbreviated to "COI". This distrust really exists because there are some people with a conflict of interest who try to abuse Wikipedia, but provided you do not plug a particular point of view or use Wikipedia for advertising there is no ban on editing articles you have a connection with; even so you should be very cautious when doing so. The fact that you have openly stated what your connection is, and are not trying to hide anything, is a good thing.
  4. There is a Wikipedia policy that user accounts are used by individual editors, not shared by members of businesses or any other organisations. Your user name suggests that it represents the business, and even if you are the only person to use the account, you are technically in breach of Wikipedia's policy on Company/group names, and you could be blocked from editing. Personally I don't usually raise this issue, because I always think that if an editor is editing for a company it is better that we know the fact, and encouraging them to change to a user name which hides their position is not helpful. In your case, however, since you have already declared your interest, this should not be a problem. Although I have no intention of trying to get you blocked for this reason, someone else may do so, so I recommend that you stop using this user name. There is a process for requesting a change of user name, which is explained at Wikipedia:Changing username, but it is really much simpler to just start a new account and stop using the old one. I strongly recommend that you do this. If you do then I very strongly encourage you to put a note on the user pages of both accounts explaining briefly that you have done so, and why. If you don't do so and someone gets the impression that it is the same person with a different account (it is often very easy to spot) you are likely to be accused of using two accounts dishonestly, to hide what you are doing. In Wikipedia this is known as sockpuppetry, and can lead to you being blocked from editing, but if you have openly declared the situation you should be above suspicion. Sorry that there are so many rules and hurdles to confuse newcomers: I found it extremely frustrating myself at first, but unfortunately it is necessary, as there are many people who try to abuse Wikipedia.
I hope that there will be no more problems, but please feel welcome to contact me again if need be. Best of luck. I am also going to add a welcome message: sorry I didn't do this at first. JamesBWatson (talk) 20:47, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS Update[edit]

Hi James,

I have sent 2 emails to OTRS and have had no reply yet. When can I get this copyright notice removed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ballymacoll (talkcontribs) 09:53, 16 November 2009

I don't know why this hasn't been dealt with: assuming you used the correct email address it should have been. I am not actively involved in copyright issues, but I have looked around to see if I can find any way for you to contact the people who are. At the moment the most promising possibility I have found is to put a note about it on the page for asking for copyright problems to be dealt with: the current page is Wikipedia:Copyright_problems/2009_November_16; obviously adjust the date if you don't deal with it today. If you still have problems there is a list of Wikipedia editors who deal with copyright cleanup at this link, and you could try contacting one of them. I hope that you can get the issue dealt with by one of these methods. JamesBWatson (talk) 10:14, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I saw your note at Toon05. I am an OTRS e-mail agent, and I did a system search to locate your letter. It has been handled. I'm sorry for the delay; we receive quite a volume of mail, and it can take up to a week for those to be addressed. For that reason, articles are routinely listed for seven days at Wikipedia:Copyright problems before closure. When OTRS is asserted, as you did, we routinely relist them to allow more time. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:45, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Username[edit]

I have created a new user Npreynolds (Talk) to replace Ballymacoll (Talk). This is as recommended by JamesBWatson (Talk) at User_talk:Ballymacoll#Ballymacoll_Stud_2 so as not to confuse me with an organisation. Npreynolds (talk) 14:56, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
