Thanks!

Hey Bro, thanks for the message, it's nice to know there's someone else on Wikipedia that cares about Mauritian soccer (or football, whichever you prefer)! It's a long shot that they'll get a result in Cameroon, but hey, you never know. If you want a live stream of the game, just ask me, I should be able to find one. Just wondering, are you of Mauritian descent, or did you just take a liking to Mauritius? (Btw, the last and only time I was there was in 1997, we were visiting my mom's relatives and of course enjoying the island itself. Way too long ago for me to remember most things, but I do know that it is an amazing place!) Moving on, this is a huge coincidence, but I also live in NJ, and my favorite soccer/football team is also the Red Bulls (sadly they're not living up to expectations this season, hopefully they turn it around) . . . As for basketball, I too like the Nets, but they've been very sucky the past few seasons, so it's been hard to pay attention to them. The one big difference I have is that for hockey I'm a Devs fan, hopefully they'll have a better go at it this season. Anyways, thanks for all your help so far, if you have any questions for me feel free to ask on my discussion page, and I look forward to working with you in the future! IMCS:SHuQ (talk) 05:00, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

I am not of Mauritian descent, my family goes back to Europe. I just took a liking for random places and stuck with Mauritius. I wouldn't say the Red Bulls aren't living up to expectations, they are probably going to make the playoffs. I think most of the time they tie/lose it is because of Teemu Tainio missing from defense. he was injured a lot and red carded last game. Anyway, basketball is my least favorite sport out of the Big 4 (football, baseball, hockey, basketball in that order). It seems sometimes i care more about College Basketball than real basketball. And my mom is a devils fan, and i live with her, so I know how to accept someone rooting against you. I might be going to the Whitecaps Red Bulls game on the 19th, and i was there when the Bulls lost to United 1-0 with DeRosario having the only goal. I was also there for there open practice in NYC. Bar Code Symmetry (talk to me) (What i've done) 13:51, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
Fair enough. The only reason I said that they aren't living up to expectations is that considering the players we do have, we should be 1st in the East and in contention for the Supporter's Shield (which is out of the question now), but you are definitely right, injuries have hurt the team a lot, especially those to Teemu and Luke. I also think some questionable decisions by management, such as trading DeRo only a few months after acquiring him, and decisions by Backe in his handling of the team, have not helped things out much. We should make the playoffs, but if you look at other wild card teams, many are very close to us in points, and some even have games in hand. It'll be a tight finish to the season. I might be going to the Red Bulls-Whitecaps game as well, last time I was at a Red Bull game was when they lost to Chivas USA, definitely not one of their better games, and I wasn't able to go to another game this Summer sadly. Now, addressing your proposal on the results portion for Mauritius, I like it. So that this info won't be wasted when it is removed, I'm probably going to make separate Wikipages for Mauritius's results, starting with 2010-11. As for the main page, I'm thinking about organizing results not chronologically but by competition/type of match (i.e. Friendly, WCQ, ACON qualifying, etc.). What do you think? IMCS:SHuQ (talk) 21:07, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
Will the page be by decade or by two years? That was unclear because we are in the middle of a decade (aren't we always? =P). I would think it would be better by decade. I think we should keep the order chronological, however. Sorry I couldn't get back to you, I was editing the Comoros page most of my computer time today. It was a HUGE edit, and a huge improvement for that article. It was my first time with a few templates. I will be busy tomorrow editing WC qualifying pages for Asia and North America. Talk to you soon, Bar Code Symmetry (talk to me) (What i've done) 02:17, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
Nice work dude, the page is looking better already. I was looking at some other national team results pages and they were using decades, so I think that would definitely work. Of course, since I dont really have detailed match information for games before 2010 (except for scores) I'll start with 2010-2019. Btw, sorry for filling up your talk page with so much text, next time I'll use the article talk pages. Anyway, good luck with the WC qualifying pages (I'll be following those results closely as well). IMCS:SHuQ (talk) 02:26, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Great job!

Hey Bar Code Symmetry, thanks for bringing to my attention that someone changed Club M's wiki page class, that's really awesome. If it wasn't for your initiative in bringing up that subject it probably wouldn't have changed. Now, as you can probably guess it's a very busy time of the year now, so I won't have as much time to edit stuff, so if you can find some time to add some quality sources to Club M's page and bring it up to at least a B-Class, that would be unbelievably helpful, and I know you would want that to happen as well. Of course, when I find time I'll try to help out as well. In the meantime, keep up the great work! IMCS:SHuQ (talk) 23:26, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

I too will be very busy and probably won't have the time to find sources, but you can still contact me on the weekends. Talk to you later, Bar Code Symmetry (talk to me) (What i've done) 00:41, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

New Page Patrolling

Hello, and thank you for patrolling new pages. A concentrated effort is now taking place to introduce more accuracy to the patrolling of new pages. Please see the article at Persecution of Bosniaks. You will find further information in the guidelines at WP:NPP, and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask me on my talk page. Speedy deletion declined: Reisei Takatoyo

Hello Bar Code Symmetry. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Reisei Takatoyo, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Contains sufficient content to be a stub. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 20:34, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

Well it got deleted. When I looked at it, i believe it said something like Reisei Takatoyo is famous for his (something) but not much is known about him. What I do is I imagine an encyclopedia. Would flipping to a page and it saying not much is known be appropriate? Now, thinking about it, CSD was too harsh, should've proded it, but it got deleted anyway. And, hey, there's always the incubator. Bar Code Symmetry (Talk) 22:24, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion converted to PROD: Miley na Miley hum (2011 film)

Hello Bar Code Symmetry. I am just letting you know that I have converted the speedy deletion tag that you placed on Miley na Miley hum (2011 film) to a proposed deletion tag, because I do not believe CSD applies to the page in question. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 20:43, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

Fair enough. But it is a stub + WP:TOOSOON + WP:CRYSTAL, and that should be enough for a deletion. Bar Code Symmetry (Talk) 22:26, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

Re:6 month rule

Hey Bar Code Symmetry, really sorry I wasn't able to respond to your question about the 6-month rule earlier. I wasn't lying when I said I was going to be busy. Finally getting some respite today. Anyway, what you did was fine, and I think we can delete the game vs the SA U-23's. I would have liked to somehow organize the games by type of competition, since we are keeping AFCON qualifiers till the end of qualifying, but that would probably give rise to too many sub-categories, so I guess that's fine. On an unrelated note, I just want to say I'm really impressed with how you conduct yourself on Wiki, referencing all these rules I had no idea about. Great job! Well, thanks for keeping up with things, and I'll talk to you soon. IMCS:SHuQ (talk) 00:32, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

YOU'RE BACK! Wow, you've been gone for quite sometime. Yeah, I've been getting bored and just doing my part in contributing to the site. Just learning how to AfD, CSD, and PROD. Behind the scenes, there is almost a war going on against spam and vandalism pages. I've been a New Page Patroller for two days, because of no football matches, sadly. The Bulls are on, watching that, too. I use the site to procrastinate most of the time, lol. So, not much is happening. I might want to be an admin sometime in the future, that's what I decided. I also might want to be in the Wiki Cup, found out about it by accident, and it sounds fun. I'll represent Mauritius well, lol. Well, I have a patrol to keep I want to keep patrolling (what has happened to my mind?) Your friend, Bar Code Symmetry (Talk) 00:48, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
P.S. Do you like my new Signature?
P.S.S. I also made a Userbox (took me sometime)
Haha nice. I never really got into the technicalities of Wikipedia, so good on you. I too am watching the Red Bulls right now, and all I can say is wow Marquez, great effort (sarcasm). For a DP making $4.6 Mill, he definitely isn't playing like one. Oh well, there's still time for the Red Bulls. Btw, I ended up going to the RBNY-Whitecaps game 3 weeks ago, wasn't that great a game as you probably remember. And yes, awesome sig :) Keep up the great work, and I'll try to respond in a more timely fashion in the future. IMCS:SHuQ (talk) 01:04, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
I agree about Rafa. I couldn't go to the Whitecaps game last minute, and don't know if I'll see them the rest of the year. It is okay to be busy, you don't need to be timely. From, Bar Code Symmetry (Talk) 01:08, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

I declined speedy deletion of this page because I couldn't find evidence that the page had gone through an AfD before or been deleted before. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 01:18, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

It was named the same, i thought, but my first reason was it was it was a fictional character from an unaired TV program. Now I see that it did air in Canada, so I would have done the same thing.

The Spymaster

Perhaps this should be deleted, but its not a G4 speedy unless it was previous deleted at AfD Whaere is the discussion? I cannot identify it, but I may not be looking under the right title. DGG ( talk ) 02:32, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

It wasn't exactly previously here, it was about a different person,Greg Hallett (article deleted), but only a few words changed and said "they worked together" on both. So it isn't exactly G4, but it is A7 indefinately. Bar Code Symmetry (Talk) 02:37, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I found that one also---and also the re-cr4ation of it with a different capitalization, which had not yet been deleted. I've decided to delete them both under speedy criterion G11, entirely promotional -- considering that all the books of these authors are self published and there appear to be no usable references for notability as either an author or a conspiracy theorist. It could be A7 also: normally the statement that someone has published books is sufficient to pass A7, though of course not necessarily amounting to actual notability--but this does not apply to self-published books, as we usually consider it not a credible assertion in the absence of very strong evidence. I regard the attempt to evade the deletion by introducing the same material under a different capitalization as a sign of unmistakable promotional intent.
NPP is complicated, because it's sometimes hard to find the correct reason, and sometimes no reason applies. When there's no clear reason, its necessary to use WP:PROD or WP:AFD, but Prod would be useless in a case like this because the author is permitted to remove the prod tag, and considering the re-creation attempt, certainly would do so. I thought about sending the articles to AfD, and asking for a SNOW deletion--sometimes its the only way, but on balance decided i had found an adequate reason for speedy deletion.
I agree.
The WP:CSD reasons are not considered flexible, and the requirements must be met exactly, and it is not considered right to use IAR for speedy deletion. However, some of the words used in the definition of the reasons do require interpretation, and most of us admins will use a broader interpretation if we think there is an absence of good faith.
I see now. I was unaware of the flexibility.
What I'd advise, is that when an article can fit under several reasons, is to use them both; there is a db-reason tag for this, but when I do it, I just apply each tag separately. (It cannot be done with Twinkle, but it can be done manually) And, when I delete an article that might fall under both A7 and G11, which many of the more promotional articles do, I usually give both reasons in the deletion summary. (Another thing to watch out for in promotional articles is the likelihood that they are copied from another web site--G12 is an incontestable reason for deletion, and should be used when applicable.)
One more thing: whenever you add a deletion tag to an article, say so explicitly in the edit summary. DGG ( talk ) 03:14, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
Okay. Will start following rules ASAP. Thanks :) Bar Code Symmetry (Talk) 03:22, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Armada Game at Sea

Hello Bar Code Symmetry. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Armada Game at Sea, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not a blatant hoax. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 05:22, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Well, it doesn't exist, and if it will, this seems like advertising, but CSD was a bad option I chose. Bar Code Symmetry (Talk) 14:15, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

New Page Patrolling

Thank you for patrolling new pages. I'm just letting you know that 'Might be spam' is not an accepted criterion for tagging an article such as you did at Ramakrishna Mission Shilpamandira Computer Centre. Wikipedia policy should be cited so that the creator understands what the issues are. There are also other things you can do when patrolling pages such as correcting the format so that patrolling administrators can read what's on the page. You still seem to be having problems getting your patrolling right, so I'm asking you now to stop patrolling until you have read:

Do not hesitate to ask me for any help or for some training on New Page Patrolling, but if you continue to patrol new pages with constant inaccuracy, we may unfortunately have to impose a topic ban. Thanks. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 07:40, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Also, you should not "roll your own" speedy tags as you did on Samdech by adding {{db-reason|Wikipedia is not a dictionary}} to the page. WP:NOT is "non-criteria number 1" at WP:CSD. Each one of the CSD criteria has its own DB tag. --Ron Ritzman (talk) 13:27, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

Foreign-language articles

Hi. Thanks for patrolling new pages, a fairly thankless but vital task. It takes a bit of time to learn all the ins and outs, but don't be discouraged. You tagged Kacaannadii Somaliyeed just now with {{db-foreign}}, but that is (rather confusingly) only for use where the article is a copy of one on a foreign-language Wikipedia, the point being that if it is just cut-and-pasted across the attribution history gets lost, and we are required by the license terms to maintain it.

Very often, if an article is a long chunk input all at once like this, a Google search on a few sentences will show that it has been copied from somewhere, and then {{db-copyvio}} applies. That was the case here, so I have zapped it. It was in Somali, but as Google Translate doesn't do that yet, I have no idea what it was about. A lot of people tag foreign articles with {{db-nonsense}}, but that's not right either. Generally, what to do with them is explained at WP:NPP#Dealing with foreign language new pages.

There is good advice for speedy taggers at WP:10CSD and WP:A7M.

Regards, JohnCD (talk) 20:01, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Whoops, I got {{notenglish}} and {{db-foreign}} mixed up. Sorry for the trouble, Bar Code Symmetry (Talk) 20:06, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Gimp (Alien)

Hello Bar Code Symmetry. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Gimp (Alien), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: A7 only applies to real things, not fictional aliens. Thank you. SmartSE (talk) 21:31, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

I was talking about the series. Google search does not bring me to any mentions of a comic book. Nevermind, I don't know what I was thinking. Bar Code Symmetry (Talk) 21:35, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

National team task force

Hi. How exactly do pages need to be tagged? --ChaChaFut (talk) 03:21, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

I'm working on it. There seems to be a problem currently... Bar Code Symmetry (Talk) 01:43, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
Done it was a template problem where only admins could edit.
To answer your question, you put |National=yes after it says {{WikiProject Football|Importance=Top|Class=FA}} on a talk page. Got it? Bar Code Symmetry (Talk) 23:11, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
OK, Will do. I see you've tagged pages of several NTs from all over. Is there an region or otherwise selection of teams I should work on tagging? Also, how are you determining the importance level? Thanks --ChaChaFut (talk) 15:04, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
On the Task force page I recently made it clear about importance. However, if you still have questions, I'll try to watch my talk page as much as possible. The best way to tag is by template. At the bottom of a national team, (example Mauritius national football team) it will say "Mauritian Football" as a title of a template. Once expanded, it will show women's, beach, futsal teams, etc. Also, look in the article for the {{Main Article}} template, which will most likely be under our reach. Bar Code Symmetry (Talk) 22:37, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
OK. Is there a region or group of teams you want me to work on, to avoid us working on the same pages? --ChaChaFut (talk) 15:10, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
Maybe you could get CONCACAF/CONMEBOL and OFC and I will get AFC,CAF and UEFA. Bar Code Symmetry (Talk) 22:29, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Hey! got your last message. I should have some free time this weekend to work on this. And yes I can take Central America and Canada, CONMEBOL, and AFC. Will keep you posted. --ChaChaFut (talk) 19:58, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

You don't have to do ALL of those... That's more than 60 right there...Maybe drop AFC? Bar Code Symmetry (Talk) 03:22, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
I'll start with Central America and CONMEBOL and see how it goes from there. I do have one question: if we're going to be using [1] as source for caps and goals, don't we want to add a reference to it on each page? And where would be a good spot? at the top of the squad list? --ChaChaFut (talk) 21:25, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, just put "Squad as of match on November 15 vs Saint Lucia. <ref> (FIFA ref here) </ref> Caps and goals correct as of 3 December.<ref> (National Football Teams ref here) </ref>" under the heading ==Current Squad== Bar Code Symmetry (Talk) 01:12, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Re:WikiCup 2012

Hey- the rules on good/featured topics are as follows-

  • Points are awarded per article in the topic that was worked on by you. If you would have a right to claim points for the promotion of the article to good or featured status, you have the right to claim points for its promotion as part of the topic, even if you did not nominate the topic.
  • Promoting an article that is already within a featured or good topic does not get additional points for the topic. Adding articles to a topic does gain points, but only points for the article added. You do not get points for articles already in a topic when a new article is added.

There has been a little discussion about changing this, but any rules changes will be announced in due course. You can see the rules here. Questions are welcome on the various talk pages or can be directed to the judges. Good to have you on board! J Milburn (talk) 22:09, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, the prize is awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round.

No prize was awarded for featured pictures, sounds or portals, as none were claimed throughout the competition. The awards will be handed out over the next few days. Congratulations to all our participants, and especially our winners; we've all had fun, and Wikipedia has benefitted massively from our content work.

Preparation for next year's WikiCup is ongoing. Interested parties are invited to sign up and participate in our straw polls. It's been a pleasure to work with you all this year, and, whoever's taking part in and running the competition in 2012, we hope to see you all in January! What you are missing is that expansion is based upon readable prose and not source code size. As a result the article underwent an expansion from 294 characters of readable prose to 1519 characters (an expansion of 5.17x). "Asked to spam it over there"? That's just ridicolous. Try to tell which user who joined the forum started to "spam". Because you consider it spam, isn't it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.60.81.172 (talk) 10:06, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
Actually you're not good even at lying :D this is definitely spam, anyway I'm writing down a complete report it will be quite intresting. --Vituzzu (talk) 14:00, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

I've redirected it to the existing article, as the title may be a useful redirect - it's how the title is written on the album cover. Peter E. James (talk) 23:24, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

OK. (I can't believe that Wikipedia found a way to get me to edit an article about Twilight. Oh, the joys of patrolling.) Bar Code Symmetry (Talk) 23:29, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

Re:Col-3

I can understand where you're coming from, but I disagree. Personally I don't find it too difficult to understand what is meant when, for example, the following is shown:

3 goals
2 goals

I find it pretty clear in the above example that the players listed below "3 goals" and above "2 goals" have each scored three goals. For me, it is more awkward-looking when, for example, there is a list of 3 players under "3 goals" not arranged in col-3 format, followed by a longer list of, say, 30 players under "2 goals" who are arranged using col-3. I hope that's clear—what I'm saying is that having some col-3s and some non-col-3s looks more awkward to me than having col-3s for small groups of players. Oh, OK. I'll just keep my opinions to myself. Bar Code Symmetry (Talk) 20:25, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Re: Latvian PROD's

While the Virsliga is the highest division in Latvia, there is no sourcing to indicate that it is fully professional. That playing this league does not confer notability is a well established concensus. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rihards Gorkšs for example. Many of the articles deleted via this afd, have since been recreated and deleted again by afd a second, in some cases even a third time. As for international representation, all the players whose article's I've PROD'ed have not actually played for Latvia internationally. Some have been called up, but did not play. Others have represented Latvia at the junior level. Both cases are explicitly excluded in WP:NSPORT. Best Regards. Sir Sputnik (talk) 02:24, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

I'll do some research on whether or not the Virsliga is fully professional. Bar Code Symmetry (Talk) 02:28, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
You're source does not appear to say anything at all about professionalism (although that may just be google skrewing with me), so no it does not indicate the Virsliga as fully pro. To be included at WP:FPL, sourcing indicating that all players in the league are full-time professional footballers is required. Sir Sputnik (talk) 04:41, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
Haha. I understand now. Bar Code Symmetry (Talk) 04:43, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
I have two issues with the text you've provided. First, I'll need to know where you got it from to be able to gauge its reliability. Second, it seems to lay out the conditions under which an amateur player may play in the Virsliga, suggesting that it is not fully pro. Sir Sputnik (talk) 16:17, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
I got it from the source that I put on your talk page from the Latvian Football Federation. Regarding the rule, if a person is as good as Wayne Rooney or Thierry Henry, but chooses not to being on a national team, and leads their club to win their not professional league, and the player is named the best in that country, the player is still not notable at Wikipedia? New club season articles

I could use help with 2011–12 1. FSV Mainz 05 season, 2011–12 Borussia Mönchengladbach season and 2011–12 FC Schalke 04 season. Thanks. Kingjeff (talk) 22:45, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Uh... I'm sorry but I haven't been on wikipedia more than a few minutes every day in the last couple of weeks... can I have a little more context please? Where did I talk about writing articles?

No, but it is my favorite place in the world. It seems we are sharing a flag for the WikiCup... I find this funny because looking back in history I was the first person to use the Mauritius flag in the WikiCup, and it now it's being shared. Bar Code Symmetry (Talk) 14:54, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
That's nice to know. I am Mauritian. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 05:12, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
