Dundee

Hey. Aye, didn't handle that one very well did I? My inital thinking was it would be easier for casual viewers to find if the search for Dundee West took them to Dundee City...I can see the logic and reason behind having two, well 4, separate articles. I've tried to point people in the right direction with constant menetions and links doktorb wordsdeeds 15:46, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on File:South of Scotland (Scottish Parliament electoral region).svg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hello Barryob. There's a discussion at Commons about deleting some of your maps (now replaced by SVGs, so I understand), here, if you want to comment. Cheers, Angus McLellan (Talk) 13:22, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

RE: Aberdeenshire West (Scottish Parliament constituency)

From the article itself:

For the Scottish Parliament election, 2011, West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine will be abolished, replaced in part by Aberdeen South and North Kincardine, Aberdeenshire East, and Aberbdeenshire West

Since the template in question refers to the 2011 Elections it should not be there. Thanks,  狐 Déan rolla bairille!  18:22, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

Maps

In case you aren't aware there is a significant problem with some of your maps - the boundaries shown are the extent of the realm, not the coastline. This is most noticeable in Shetland where Unst gets merged with the mainland, but can be seen elsewhere. Things like including England and the colours are stylistic concerns (and so minor). I'm also a little concerned about the sourcing - the maps are not entirely your own work, but derived from someone's boundary data (at a guess OS).--Nilfanion (talk) 18:57, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

Scottish Election on ITN

I think its sadly too late now, yesterday you should have started a "renom" section like I did for the Intel chips story. Currently the only thing it can do is displace the UK AV referendum. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 20:30, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

General election redirect

Morning Barry

I have undone your move of the 2015 general election article. Unilateral moves without debate are never a good idea. There is no guarantee that the election will be in 2015 - this is the first time the UK will use fixed-term parliaments so until we get closer to the date this parliament could still fall on a no confidence vote etc. There is no rush to move the article in any case; the important articles to look at are the constituency articles where results are still outstanding. doktorb wordsdeeds 09:02, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

User:GoodDay's resumed vandalisation spree of First Minister infoboxes

I think that you have a right to know that I had aleady raised exactly this issue with the User currently inhabiting last chance saloon. Please see:

The Scotland talk pages are filled with is POV points and constant raising of the same issues over and over again, I see there was a call for a request for comment with regards to his behaviour, perhaps that would be the next step. --Barryob (Contribs) (Talk) 15:05, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
I'm sick to the back teeth of this. Time and time and time again Users call to an RfC on GoodDay, and yet none of us have the time or energy for it. This exposes a fatal flaw in Wikipedia as currently constituted. I for one am not going to waste my time on the beaurocratic route. I will simply revert any and all of his vacuous edits to articles on my Watchlist. Other WikiProjects can look after their own backyards. --Mais oui! (talk) 08:18, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
Then in effect, you're promising to stalk me, on those particulary articles, which you're gonna take an ownership stance. GoodDay (talk) 12:27, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
I don't think it would be stalking if justified, eg, if rolling back a series of Pointy edits that were placed purely for that reason, as so many of GoodDay's are. Then it would just be maintaining the Cyclopedia properly. Jamesinderbyshire (talk) 13:18, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Selby rail crash

You do know there is no consensus in talk for this move, don't you? --John (talk) 21:01, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

No as I wasn't aware it was a contentious move. --Barryob (Contribs) (Talk) 16:40, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
May I suggest you move it back then? All offical Railway sources refer to it as Great Heck and the article does mention it was known in the media as the Selby crash but I think the title should acttually reflect where it actually happened than merely the nearest town. 157.203.254.1 (talk) 05:34, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
You have rather made a mockery of the rather involved discussion which went on on the Talk page about the name change by moving it without even mentioning you thought it should move. I think a move back is required. Zozzie 9t9 (talk) 17:32, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Template reverts

Hi there. I am reverting the templates back to their old ways because I was really dissatisfied by the way that they looked under the changes. However, I did make some improvements to templates such as the political ones for all four countries in the UK, but someone changed them back. Other than that, I did make some edits to other templates and I didn't revert them back. JAU123 User talk:JAU123 18:37, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Alex Salmond signature.png

Thank you for uploading File:Alex Salmond signature.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Cloudbound (talk) 21:07, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:StormontSenate.JPG

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:StormontSenate.JPG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Government of the 4th Scottish Parliament, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Alex Neil (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Total mess: Cabinet Secretary for Parliamentary Business and Government Strategy

I discovered 3 nearly identical articles, with different titles:

Exasperated by this mess, I rapidly redirected them all to point at Minister for Parliamentary Business and Chief Whip. However, it now appears that for a short period there was actually a Cabinet position with a similar role. As one of the very few editors around here who knows about the SG, can you help sort out the mess and clarify the situation? Ta. --Mais oui! (talk) 04:46, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

I know the ministerial articles are all over the place, will try tackling some of them next week. --Barryob (Contribs) (Talk) 17:44, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. I have spotted your work on these articles.
The more I read of Wikipedia's coverage of Scottish government and administration the more I realise what a dogs' breakfast it all is. We really do need a tremendous amount of work on the Scottish health, education, legal and transport systems, and they are really only the tip of the iceberg. A lot of really key topic articles are either non-existent or pathetic stubs which have festered unloved for many years. Today, for example, I started the Secondary education in Scotland article, but it would take days of work to even begin to do justice to such a huge topic, bringing it up to, say, C class. I just haven't the time for that, and I suspect that you don't either. But all your work is greatly appreciated. --Mais oui! (talk) 08:16, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link fixing one-day contest

I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412 T 01:54, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

there is a page somewhere on Wikipedia with the instructions, I can remember where it is tho. Basically you need to change the file from .svg to .txt and edit it on notepad and file in the relevant information e.g. SNPSNPGreLab. I have noticed the edits you are making to the glasgow constituency articles the info included in the info box is good but I think there are fields you can use in the constituency info box to show this info also? I will have a go tomorrow at trying to combine them.00:42, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
