Hello. You may or may not remember this, but some time ago you signed up for a Hangman Tournament hosted here on Wikipedia. The next tournament is about to start, and I was just wondering if you were still interested in participating. If you are, please go to the page (linked above) and bold your name in the sign-up list. This will confirm your registration. If you are not interested any more, please feel free to remove your name from the list. If you haven't responded within 7 days, I will assume you are not interested, and remove you from the list.

If you think anyone else may be interested in this tournament, please drop them a note and ask them to sign up. Good luck, and I hope to see you at the tournament! If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka Talk to me! 13:32, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Calvin Cheng[edit]

There is no 'controversy'. A controversy is according to the dictionary "prolonged public disagreement or heated discussion". There is no such thing here. It was settled by the Competition Commission and it was found AMIP was NOT party to the decision and the company that Cheng was a shareholder of was fined, NOT HIM.

There is thus no need for a separate section on 'controversy' as it does not fit the definition of a controversy. i

Also the 'unsubstantiated' statements you removed were all referenced. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aricialam (talkcontribs) 16:41, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Beefball. Would like a discussion with you instead of an edit war please. Aricialam (talk) 16:58, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I agree the term "controversy" is a tad too strong and a new header would be better, or alternatively the material should be folded back into the biography. My rationale for making the changes was simply because I felt that the issue was deserving of a separate section of its own, given that it was a significant issue that stirred significant media coverage (as can be seen from the sources in the article.
With reference to the 'unsubstantiated' statements I've removed, you would notice the claim found in this statement "In China, Cheng presided over a watershed Elite Model Look contest held right at the doorsteps of Tibet's Potala Palace, an event that garnered widespread international attention." is not supported by the article given as the citation.
Cheng's remarks to the press at the end of Elite Model Look 2003 were that, "The prevailing perception of beauty always belongs to the stronger economic power. At the moment, the Western economy is still holding sway. Therefore, their culture and values are being imposed on us. As the East grows stronger economically, more of our value and culture will be exported to the West. I believe there will be a reversal of trend.". These remarks were to prove prescient in the late 2000's and early 2010's, when a rising China finally allowed the emergence of the world's first Chinese supermodel, Liu Wen.
This bit here includes a quotation that has no source, by WP:BLP it must be removed as it could be potentially libellous. The part about how Liu Wen emerged is a bit too much of a stretch for a biography; I don't quite see how there's a need to attribute by association an opinion I suspect is not particularly notable nor unique. --Beefball (talk) 17:15, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Beefball . Thank you SO much for reverting :) If you look at the history of the Calvin Cheng page, it was protected from vandalism for 3 months because there were many anonymous accounts and accounts created specifically for editing this page, out of political reasons. The initial edit for this 'controversy' page was such one. If you look at all the legal documents, Calvin Cheng himself was never fined, and in fact AMIP itself was exonerated. And there can't possibly be a controversy if the government proceeded to appoint him as an NMP and many Singaporean statutory boards? The section was created to embarrass Mr. Cheng and the information was already included in the Biography. This isn't even a significant even in his career, otherwise it would have prevented him from being in parliament, on the boards of many singapore govt orgs etc. 'price fixing' in singapore isn't criminal law, it is regulatory law ie. like SMRT being fined for trains being late. As Mr. Cheng is very vocal in standing up to trolls on the internet who use could language, abuse foreigners etc, he has incurred the wrath of these people. Hope you understand and you can join forces in protecting these pages?

If you look at the history, you can see an account teosirluck that was created to edit unfavourable Singapore govt politicians. I reported him but as I am not experienced, I did not know how to do it. He has gone on to make unfavourable edits on Lee Kuan Yew, Lee Hsien Loong etc. Even his name is troll name!!

I see you are very experienced, I really really really hope you can help me!!! Please! :(

Also I have been a fashion editor for over 20 years. The event at Tibet was very significant since the Potala Palace is the Dalai Lama's palace and to do a beauty pageant at the location was the first and last time in history!!

Also the emergence of Liu Wen as a supermodel is also very significant as she is the first China supermodel. When Cheng talked about Asian beauty, there was none. In the end, as he predicted there was. He was the first Asian head of elite model and fought a lot for asian beauty. Aricialam (talk) 17:37, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Beefball . The source of the quote is here: http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/en/doc/2003-11/13/content_281225.htm

It is already in the references. Aricialam (talk) 17:58, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I re-read your comments again regarding significant media coverage. Cheng gave one interview, CCS replied once to the forum, and Cheng replied on his blog. In terms of media coverage, actually only Cheng's interview counts. The others were a letter and a blog post.

Pls help me? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aricialam (talkcontribs) 18:23, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
