Adminship

Alright. Number 3's not really a policy anymore and not followed (I still don't have one myself), but if you want to go that it certainly helps. When I saw you go on a several-day wikibreak i kinda realized that I had pretty bad timing. I'll delete that link for now, let my know when you're ready to apply :) (And you point out the two rfas i nommed that didn't succeed, lol, but I'm improving in that don't worry). --Wizardman 23:01, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

You helped choose Ludwig van Beethoven as this week's WP:ACID winner

Thank you for your support of the Article Improvement Drive.
This week Ludwig van Beethoven was selected to be improved to featured article status.
Hope you can help.

Now, they're not perfect, but I've modified them to remove some speculative information and I've placed asterisks in the boxes next to the coach and stadium, noting them as subject to change. TheSportsLogosMaster 22:14, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Finch Station images

My bad. I misunderstood the issue. I remember now making the gif first, but it looked crappy when it was 200px for the article; so I made a png, since those are smaller for diagrams, but again, it didn't shrink down properly, so I resorted to jpg. Feel free to delete the other two files. TheHYPO 19:04, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Your RFA

I see that you've been nominated for adminship by two users. You have not yet accepted the nomination or answered the questions. I'd encourage you to do it because for someone with your strong record, WP:RFA shouldn't be stressful - you'll sail through easily. Then you'll be able to delete images yourself without having to refer all of them to others.

Please see Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/BigrTex if you haven't already. Best regards. YechielMan 21:54, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Yes, you can post the RfA up now, no need to create a new one. I'd put it up there now but I feel it's right that you do it. Actually, I went and put yours up already since you answered those questions. Best of luck.--Wizardman 01:09, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: Orphaned fair use image (Image:Mistulagenesis.jpg)

Hi! I was actually the one who removed the image from the article. I just forgot to mark it for deletion. Sorry about that! x_x; Silentaria 05:30, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

You can delete the D66-image, it has been replaced by a superior version.

My Image Gallery

Wikipedia policy prohibits the display of Fair Use images except on article pages that discuss the subject of the image. I appreciate all of the images that you've uploaded to Wikipedia, but have linkified the Fair Use images that you were displaying on your user page.

Thanks for doing all that work instead of merely deleting the images; I appreciate it. I picked up the idea of doing a gallery after I saw another Wikipedian do the same on their page. --Skb8721 17:53, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Images uploaded by User:Popgear

Please look at Image:Hung 1.JPG, Image:Hung 2.JPG, and so forth until Hung 13, all uploaded by Popgear. I think they should all be deleted, but you know more about such things than I do. Thanks for the help. 66.65.54.63 04:53, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Photos

Thank you for the heads up about the photos for deletion. It is fine to delete the photos. I don't have time to spend on Wiki right now, so it's okay with me. Those photos were added when I was a newbie and I didn't fully understand the system. Some are duplicated images that should be deleted anyway. I don't know where Image:Eminem_logo.png was originally used, I just made the background transparent. Delete away.

Images Question

Thanks for the comment on my page about images. I had been trying to get some information on the talk pages and was coming up with nothing. Let me ask you to clarify something: If an image has been posted on the Untagged Images page and it has been there over a week, do we add the tags you mentioned as a means of speedy deleting the images? Secondly, is images for deletion to be viewed like articles for deletion, that is, a place to talk about them first? Please clear this up for me. I appreciate your time. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by JodyB (talkcontribs) 18:40, 7 May 2007 (UTC).

OK, I just saw your response at untagged images. So unless you can add information about the source, license, copyright, etc. It's best to just leave it alone and let the tag that's already on there expire? JodyB talk 18:43, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned images

I have added each of the orphaned images to articles:

Fair use template/tagging question

When I find an image like [1] that has a fair use tag but doesn't have one for the individual article for which it is used, what should I do. My understanding is that you need the first tag, but then a separate rationale for each article in which it is used. Would that apply in this case? JodyB talk 20:06, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

  1. I added a rationale, would you look and see if I did it correctly? Thanks JodyB talk 20:49, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

My orphaned images

Hi, regarding the tags you added to my images, do you know of a tag to delete images on uploader request? Because of the crackdown on screenshots in LOE's, I no longer have use for these images. Since I would rather not create individual articles for the episodes nor be spammed by {{Orphaned}}, I think this method would be less stressful. Thanks, UnfriendlyFire 00:43, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Toons4youtv

The reason why his photo was taken off that article is because I had two photos on that article and he took it off and put his in there. I did not find out about it until this month when I got a thing which tells me that I have a week to put my photos in a article or they were going to delete it, so I put my photos back and took his off. He had no right to put his photos on there and take off mine. It is not fair use and I was upset about it. That is the reason why you put a thing on his talk page and he should not have put his pictures on that article in the first place. I had two photos on that article that he took off and I put back in that article. That is reason why you put those messages on his talk page. Bye.--Stco23 08:30, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Can't figure it out

Thanks for your help - I have another question

I wanted to add some subheadings and some resources/sources to the Diana Vincent piece I added. I noticed some people went in and dramatically changed what I had done originally, to get rid of the "advertising" tone, or whatever it was called. Now I'm a little concerned if I add some things, will people get mad and delete them? I have some more info that I want to include. I'd love any advice you can give me - you've been wonderful so far. Thanks for all the help! Danceswithwords 15:33, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks again!

I think I am learning things a little quicker than I expected to, but I will definitely try to keep it up and learn even more. I found the James A. Michener Art Museum wiki was in need of a little more info, and seemed to be a good opportunity to get my article to link. If you want to check it out, I'd be glad for any feedback. Thanks again! Danceswithwords 23:19, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Wow, so much to learn - and thanks!

I am feeling pretty good about how the article is coming along. :) I feel like there is SO much to learn and so many rules and guidelines. I've never been very good at works cited in my writing experiences - hehe. I always have to break open the book and copy the format of what's in there.

I do know of a bunch of magazine articles that featured her work and stories about her - I can put together a list of them, but then what? Most of them won't have the article online, so I could link to the publication or to the Wiki page, but not the actual content. (Also - when linking which is better - linking internally or externally if there are pages for both?)

I know some of the publications she's been in are pretty mainstream - like Vogue. I also know there are some newspaper articles from recent times. Any advice would be great! I tried to check out that sources page you linked me to, but I'll have to read it again when I have more time. It is a little overwhelming! :) Thanks again for everything and have a great day!

Please Help

Hey BigrTex. Thank you so much for your nice note on my page. I am a bit alarmed because I logged in to look at my article, and I got some weird message that said my IP address was blocked from editing or something for vandalism! Here is a message I posted to the vandalism talk page to try to figure out what is going on. Thank you for adopting me and teaching me all these great things! I do want to add photos that I have from the store - but would need to know how to attribute the photog, if necessary. Anyway, thanks again and here is my message -

I am new here and don't know what I could have done wrong to get marked as having committed vandalism. I am a writer by trade and I always make a point to maintain a very professional attitude and behavior. I detest those who commit copyright infringement and I have no idea why I was flagged. When I logged in to check something, I saw a message that Mel someone or other blocked me from editing, but I received no message or note as to what I had done wrong. I have only tried to improve the article I added since the time I got here. And while learning is slow, I have to express, there are a ton of guidelines and rules here that I am struggling to absorb. I did not do anything intentionally to compromise the quality of my contributions. Someone please help me to understand this! Thank you so much for your time. Fair use rationale for Image:Legionnaires37Monel.jpg

Hi BigrTex! CleverGuy here. I'm not an expert on fair use rationales, so I created a prototype of the one which should be placed on Image:Legionnaires37Monel.jpg. That prototype is currently placed on my talk page, and I would appreciate if you could review it. I'm not certain of what should be in the Portion and Replaceability sections. Could you explain what should be there? Thanks and greetings, The Clever Guy Talk! 12:18, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

urgent admin help needed

Hello, I've found you in the recent changes page. I've added some sources and infos to Miklós Horthy page, but two vandals, Tankred and PANONIAN are deleting it permanently. This is the page: [3], and this its history: [4]. PANONIAN also calls me Vince and puts a tag on my and onto a lot of IPs of "suspected socpuppet of VinceB". PANONIAN's history: [5]. Seemingly this is his hobby to tag all IPs and call them Vince. What to do? --91.120.113.31 22:16, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

PS: Please ban them. --91.120.113.31 22:17, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Where did they call you VinceB? Which of your IP addresses is tagged? I need more information. Have you tried talking to them on their talk pages regarding the changes that you've made to the article? Have you considered registering a username to add this information? ~ BigrTex 22:36, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
At least two users who have had many dealings with the banned user VinceB (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) believe that 91.120.113.31 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) is his new sockpuppet. I will post a formal request to block that account at WP:ANI. Tankred 22:47, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

My IP is tagged with "suspected sockpuppet of VinceB", just click on it, and you see the answer to your other questions above. --91.120.113.31 22:57, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your post at AN/I. I think that will be the best way to settle this. There is no reason to rush to ban anyone in this case, and more experienced administrators can deal with it. ~ BigrTex 23:05, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Just sayin hello

And thanks again for all your help. :-) My next goal is to add images like you've suggested. I might attempt that tonight! Thanks for everything and have a great day! Cheers, Danceswithwords 13:52, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Missing fair use rationales

When you are going through images that that are missing fair use rationales or sources, please consider adding a rationale of your own if you think that the images may be worth keeping. A huge number of images have been tagged as lacking a rationale, and while I have been trying to add rationales where I could to images that I have never seen before, there are just too many for me to fix. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eastmain (talkcontribs) 17:11, 22 May 2007

Image:Bivouac.jpg

Image:Bivouac.jpg is not the image located at http://www.amazon.com/Bivouac-Jawbreaker/dp/B000001BEP. Did you consider uploading the image from Amazon so that we could have an image for which we knew the source instead of lying about where someone else got the image from?

Please take a closer look. I am referring to the image that is displayed on http://www.amazon.com/Bivouac-Jawbreaker/dp/B000001BEP, which is 240 pixels square and named 51HP7XCVCJL._AA240_.jpg, not the larger image displayed when you click on the 240px one. Image:Bivouac.jpg is also 240 pixels square and appears to be identical to the Amazon image.
There is no guarantee that an image which is on Amazon today will be there tomorrow. Books go out of print. Record albums are deleted. A cover image available on a bookseller's site today will not be there tomorrow if the bookseller has no copies of the book to sell. This is why it is dangerous to assume that a deleted image can be replaced. --Eastmain 23:43, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

On the 6th May I uploaded some pictures of Godalming Train station for the page. To be honest I wasn't really sure what I was doing. I'm looking at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and not seeing much that seems quite relevant. Image:Me_and_Paul.jpg

Hi BigrTex: I tagged Image:Me_and_Paul.jpg as fair use because of this particular tag def:

This image is of a cover of an audio recording, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by either the publisher of the album or the artist(s) which produced the recording or cover artwork in question. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of such covers
  • solely to illustrate the audio recording in question,
  • on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information.
To the uploader: please add a detailed fair use rationale for each use, as described on Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline, as well as the source of the work and copyright information.

The rationale is precisely that it is a 'low-res image' of the "cover of an audio recording" for the articles about the artist and his work, and I don't know how much more explicit to be than that. thanks, Renice 12:34, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for helping me. I can't thank you enough. Since I have joined Wikipedia in August 2006, people have been bothering me about my images, as you can see on my talk page. Nobody every really explained this situation to me in detail. I will use this rationale on every album I upload, and I can't thank you enough for using your free time to help me, finally get this straightened out. Fair use rationale for Image:All_I_Can_Be.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:All_I_Can_Be.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigrTex 19:31, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Done Cloudz679 22:27, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Please, let me know if the use and info, as well as the article inclusions are alright or not. I am confidant that the rationale and the use can be enhanced anough to keep its use fair. If you think let me know that, too. Respond to my talk page. Thanks for your attention. Cheers. Aditya Kabir 16:38, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Album cover fair use rationale

My talk page has been hammered recently with warnings that images I uploaded, all album covers, are tagged for deletion. According to WP, use of low-res images of album covers is acceptable fair use under copyright law. Since you've been quite bold about tagging these images for deletion, please apply your boldness in providing the appropriate fair use rationale to the image pages themselves. Thank you, Alcuin 01:42, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Latifa's CDs covers

I didn't know that I couldn't use those in lists, I saw Tarkan discography the other day and I thought it's ok to do it. I was going to create an article for all of them later, I just been crowded recently. There is no way to create more than 30 articles of every single album and single of Latifa in 7 days so they'll probably be deleted :D

I was working on snapshots from Latifa's video to use it in my new article Latifa videography but thanks for informing me before uploading them because it would be a great waste of time LOL Salaam radiant guy 10:04, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Tarkan's Album Covers (Images)

Thanks for the input about not being able to use album covers in gallery templates or in discographies. I had seen these used on other artists' pages (e.g. Madonna), but I see there must have been some change as they are slowly being amended. I have added a fair use rationale to the remaining covers, and unorphaned the ones that I have subsequently added to the articles. However, I am not intending to open articles for the features (appearances) and have left those images as they are so that they can be deleted. Deff6 02:27, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for a thankless job

Thank you for all your work on removing fair use galleries/list from various articles. There's lots of complaints about this sort of work, but it is necessary. I know it's thankless, so a major major THANK YOU! :) --Durin 16:00, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Removal of Photographs

User:JackfrostCA uploaded 6 images of Air Creebec planes under

but attributes them to 4 different photographers: Image:Hs748.jpg, Image:Dash8-300.jpg, Image:Embraer 110.jpg, Image:Beechcraft 100.jpg, Image:Beechcraft 1900 D.jpg, and Image:Dash 8-100.jpg. ~ BigrTex 16:53, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Please note the above text, which I found in the "possibly Unfree images" section of Wikipedia. Those pictures of which you have removed are free pictures that were freely donated for unrestricted public posting, and can be found on my sight at MSN, under the address:

http://groups.msn.com/AviationDays.

All photographs on the above mention site, are donated by employees, past and present, and other interested parties, who wished to contribute to the site.

The 4 different photographers that you have cited in your remarks are myself, John Barker, and three other current employees of Air Creebec. None are professional photographers who make financial use of their photos. Their names were supplied on each image to give them proper public credit and recognition for their contribution. They were sent to me free of charge and no commercial use has been, or will be, made with them.

There is no copyright restriction attached to any of the images. All images were publicly posted with the consent from each person who contributed the image.

John Barker Air Creebec employee.

Re: Image Removal

Upon further clarification, there is a clearer understanding of the issue about the images that were posted. If necessary the images should be deleted, in order to prevent any other use of them, other than free public viewing. Once they are deleted, then I can upload them again with the proper documentation in order to prevent this issue from surfacing again.

Crystal Gayle

For the Crystal Gayle images you have been bothering me about. I don't see why there's such a problem. There's a fair use rationale there. Please can you fix my problem oin one of the Crystal Gayle images so I can understand how to fix it, becuase I don't know how to right now. LovePatsyCline 15:56, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

CSD AutoReason

I was informed earlier today about a bug in IE6. I've since fixed it per the suggestion and IE6 is working fine again. Just thought I'd let my spamlist know that they need to purge their local cache (Ctrl+F5 on most browsers) to get the latest version of the script. Regards, ^demon[omg plz] 16:10, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

How do I dispute your proposed deletion on this image? I see no reasonable rationale for it. This is a national soccer federation's logo, and the logo of virtually every world soccer/football federation is on Wikipedia under the same {{logo}} tag. If this logo is not a valid fair use, then neither is this one (Brazil), this one (Argentina), this one (Poland), this one (Sweden), or any of the hundreds of national soccer/football federation logos uploaded here. --Jhortman 18:44, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Upon closer review, I see that you said it had no fair use rationale... I added one and removed the template, per the instructions. Is that satisfactory now? --Jhortman 18:51, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Wales_FA.png

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Wales_FA.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. BigrTex 20:38, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

The original uploader of the image was User:Dryazan, so you should ask them instead - I only converted it to PNG. --Fibonacci 20:41, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Hello there,

You state that the following "Image is missing fair use rationale". Does this not count as rationale, found here?

This is a logo of a sports team. The image file was created by http://hqfl.dk. This website allows their files to be freely used with attribution (http://hqfl.dk/ states: "We offer you everything we have free of charge! We have only one demand: give credits to us! We have spent literally thousands of hours creating these logos, but as long as you give credits to us, you can use our logos as much as you want and how you want."); however, the logo itself is believed to be copyrighted and/or trademarked by the team in question. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of logos of sports teams

* to illustrate the team in question
* on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation.. --Palffy 22:44, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

...okay, however I have to point out that the organization that governs the CIS national football team no longer exists (Association_Football_Federation_of_CIS) but I don't think you personally cared to learn about that. I glanced over your recent contributions on WP and I noticed that essentially you marked just about every single national team logo with a 'fair-use rationale' is missing tag as well as a good deal of club logos as well. In all honesty, don't you think you would've been more productive on WP had you added the rationales yourself instead of just tagging all of the images saying its missing? (you're obviously afflicted with copyright paranoia to have an issue with all of these standard fair use logos..) I am sorry if I'm being critical of you, but I really think you could be more productive (and quite possibly useful) to WP by making positive contributions rather than negative ones. --Palffy 06:54, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

I believe you that you weren't personally picking on soccer logos (your contributions prove that you do this for all kinds of images...) However, its the terms of the fair use dispute that bother me--I'm personally worried that they will get deleted and something REALLY important and hard to find will be gone because of some stupid copyright nonsense that a lot of people don't care about. You're probably right that I wouldn't have learned something but I think a less threatening tag should be suggested, so that whenever someone stumbles upon it or has the time to add a rationale, they will do just that..The issue with the rationales for the football federation logos is that they should be identical with the exception of replacing the country's name with another (however that takes time, and judging from the time you spend tagging the images, you could have done it yourself to save some really tedious work for those who are not into the specifics of fair-use and keep their edits to their respective interests. Obviously users should have a basic understanding of making proper edits or uploads, but I think that this should either be taken care of by users who are into messing around with fair-use templates or whatever versus the contributors who posted the material and look after it.. ::shrug:: --Palffy 21:20, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified sources for grey reef shark pics

I have added the source for these three images - it was from a Commons photo. Just to let you know. Chris_huhtalk 22:46, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry, did I annoy you?

I don't understand why it is my responsibility, not only to assist in creating this encyclopedia by adding fully documented content to it, but also to maintain perpetual watch over that content, embellishing it with additional metadata to your satisfaction on demand. I don't accept that the lack of fair use rationale in any way endangers this project—unlike, say, deletionism, which has driven many a valuable contributor into the outer dark. Did you follow up my intemperate edit comment by tagging half a dozen of my image uploads to teach me a lesson? Do you believe that will help me be a better wikipedian, perhaps? What is it you think we're doing here, BigrTex? — JEREMY 17:33, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Sure, thanks for the stubs... there was actually another guy who was going to do it, but he only works on them sporatically.... I'll have to dig up some standings and then I'll fill in the leagues details. DMighton 23:10, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
