I assume that, like your other contributions, it is your own work. But in that case, please follow exactly the procedure described in WP:COPYRIGHT. Assert the copyright specifically on the talk page, and send written evidence of that to OTRS. In addition, please remember that we consider it essential to exactly specify the source from which you have copied it as a reference in the article. If you published it in a journal article, remember that you may or may not own the copyright. Even if you have a license from the publisher to use it in your own work, such as most publishers do provide for their authors, this is not a license to submit it to WP, because you must submit everything under GFDL, which gives everyone in the world permission to copy it further, even for commercial purposes. Few publishers are yet willing to do this; if you have published it with such an open access publisher, great!, but you need to say so. Wikipedia is very sensitive to the possibility of copyright violation and the nuances of its licensing, because the acceptance of a project such as ours depends upon the certain knowledge that we are scrupulous about copyright. How Wikipedia handles these things is tricky, so if you need advice, let me know.

But, as a colleague, I point out that the article is not really suitable for Wikipedia in its present form. First and most obviously, you refer to footnoted sources which are not listed in the article. Second, the style is more suited to an academic essay than the explanatory plain style of a general encyclopedia like this one--we usually do not put quotations inside sentences.

Document Classification[edit]

Thank you for your message on my talk page. I can assure you I did read your contribution before reverting it. Your recounting of events is inaccurate. You first created a new article Automatic document classification([1]) which was an incorrect redirect to [[Document Classification], which I fixed for you: [2]. You then tried to move the contents of Automatic Document Classification to Document Classification: [3]; this is the wrong way to move a article, since you erased the history of the authorship of the original article; this breaks the license terms under which editors contribute, so is a bad idea. I then fixed that for you: [4].

After that, you then edited Document classification to remove all mention of Automated Document Classification, and replace it with a very specific viewpoint on what Document Classification is, solely based on the work of one scholar: [5]. This is clear original research and deleted the significant existing content of the article. I reverted [6] your change as it removed the existing content and clearly breaches Wikipedia's rules on not including original research and keep broad coverage of the subject.

Finally, you created a new article Frederick Wilfrid Lancaster which is incomplete, improperly referenced and contains significant factual errors (Lancaster is British, not American, for example).

I encourage you to contribute to Wikipedia, but you will be much more successful if you take a little time to understand how the encyclopedia works and try to follow the basic rules. Removing article content wholesale to replace it with your version of the subject is not a good idea. Writing incomplete and incorrect articles is not a good idea. History of scholarship[edit]

There is a page history of science but there is no page for the history of humanistic studies such as art, history, classical studies, religious studies, literature etc. There for I established the page "History os scholarship" which is certainly not the same as "Scholarly methods" But OlYeller21 twice deleted my page and just made a REDIRECT to Scholarly methods. Can you please explain: Why should every discipline in the sciences and social sciences have a generic article "History of science" but not the many fields in arts and humanities? Isnt "History of scholarship" the proper term?

Brian Campbell Vickery[edit]

Just come across this page whilst on new page patrol. It seems to lack anything in the way of inline citations, and I was a bit confused by the capitalisation and spelling in "11 september 1918 – 17 oktober 2009", from an editor with over 1300 edits! Query: (nosiness!) is English not your first language? It would explain that anomaly :o)

This article would actually probably be quite easy for you to source-hunt and bring up to Good Article status; I have the feeling that there's a load more information out there which could be included here. Nice little project for you. I'm going to drop a few hints and tips down here on your talk page for easy reference.

First of all, it may be best for you to do a bit of reading, starting with the Wikipedia manual of style, which will give you a lot of information about how Wikipedia prefers its articles to be written. It's not as hard to follow as it might look; quite a bit of the information there probably won't be vital for you at first.

Second, I recommend you make a user sandbox - which is just an area you can use to practise in, and to make notes in, and to get things ready in. If you click this red link: user:BirgerH/Sandbox, that will let you create that page (it gives you an edit window to start work in). Anything, anywhere, on the help and information pages which gives you an example, try it out in your sandbox until you're familiar with it.

For your article, the next thing you want to do is start collecting as much information as you can about it. Google searches (particularly in Books and Scholar) will be your best friend for this! Once you've found the information, the next most important thing is to start writing up each fact in your own words (very important, this), and make a note at the same time of exactly where that information came from. Build in the references as you go along; I'm going to copy in, down below this, a whole heap of help on doing references, which was produced by one of our best teachers (Chzz).

Here's another place that you'll find incredibly useful - citation templates which you can copy and paste into your sandbox, between <ref></ref> tags; you just fill in the blanks from your sources into the template, and you'll end up with nicely formatted inline citations :o) It all helps. Remember to add a references section to your sandbox (make a new line, and put ==References== on it, and type {{reflist}} on the next line, so that you can see how your citations look as you do them. Remember to save your page often! You don't want to lose your work.

Hopefully this will give you a good start and make life easier for you.

You can put anything you like between <ref> and </ref>, but using citation templates makes for a neat, consistent look;

Here's a little bit of magic which can save you an awful lot of time and effort![edit]

You might want to consider using this tool - (tools:~dispenser/cgi-bin/webreflinks.py) - it makes your life a whole heap easier, by filling in complete citation templates for your links. All you do is install the script on Special:MyPage/common.js, or or Special:MyPage/vector.js, then paste the bare url (without [...] brackets) between your <ref></ref> tabs, and you'll find a clickable link called Reflinks in your toolbox section of the page (probably in the left hand column). Then click that tool. It does all the rest of the work (provided that you remember to save the page! It doesn't work for everything (particularly often not for pdf documents), but for pretty much anything ending in "htm" or "html" (and with a title) it will do really, really well all by itself. For those it can't do by itself, it gives you a pull-down (or up) menu of templates to choose from, which you can then fill in manually. Often the problem is "No title found" - sometimes the title is obvious (especially if it's a pdf), bit, if not, just open the page yourself and choose something appropriate if there's not already a clear title there. don't be concerned. As reviewing administrator, I removed the speedy--it meets the requirements for academic journals. But it does not have all the information of our usual articles -- See WP:WikiProject Academic Journals for the guidelines.

I notice that some of your other articles, like the one on Vickery, is similarly sketchy, and you have not fixed it. This is not really very cooperative writing--please follow our general formats for articles so others don't have to go around and fix things up after you.
