A brief note[edit]
Hi there! I just wanted to let you know that I responded to your message at my talk page. Also, as a brief note of explanation, I removed the "help" template, as it should be placed on your own talk page. It's not problem, but it does obscure who needs help if you place it on someone else's talk page. Let me know if you still feel that you need help, or you can add it to your on talk page. I've seen some of the people who respond to these help requests, and they are very friendly and helpful people. Also, just so that you don't get confused, I move your message to the bottom of the page, so that it's easier to see the chronological order of messages. It's a bit counterintuitive, but most places on Wikipedia add new messages to the bottom. Of course, just to keep everyone confused, there are a few places that don't. Hello. I've been trying to improve my refs. As you can see, some have huge urls in them....how can I shorten that and let the little arrow that appears do the job? Also, I'd like to upload a couple of my photos...is that ok? I finally have a good scan of one of Truman Galusha himself. Thanks in advance,

- For formatting your references, I recommend using the
{{cite book}}template - there's a useful tool here that will take the URL of a Google Books search and convert it fully into the appropriate template, complete with ref tags. Ok,I have spent about an hour trying to use the Upload Wizard. I have somehow uploaded the image here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Portrait_of_Truman_Galusha,_from_History_of_Jericho,_VT,_p_480_VT.jpeg How the hell do I get it onto the page I'm working on, "Galusha House" ????Also, I'd like to upload a couple more of my own photos of the interior of the house. HOW do I do it??? Sorry...I have read and read, and just CANNOT figure out how to upload images to the right page. Best, Blueridge12 (Ray Allen)

Thank you for uploading File:Galusha House Parlor.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

But found it was easier to do with the Commons Wizard, so uploaded the same photo there, and it's working. I assume the one in Wikipedia will be deleted which would be fine. Lesson learned. Thanks!

Also, the panel saying "This article needs more sources, etc." was removed....also great. Who did this? And what does the removal of the panel mean? I am still trying to finish making my refs parallel..will soon. Any info on status of the page, I'd like to hear. Please. I believe it is near finished...is it acceptable? - Hi there! I admit that I haven't looked at the article in a little while. It looks very good now – like a grizzled veteran made it! In fact, I have upgrade the article assessment to "C class". This doesn't mean a lot, but it's an indication that the article passes many of Wikipedia's guidelines and policies, is useful to readers, is well-written, and has no major issues. If you look at the History tab, you can see that Generic1139 (talk · contribs) helpfully added some details to the article in this edit. He also removed the cleanup template, which was a good decision, as the article looks like it no longer needs it. These templates are added and removed at the best judgment of editors like you and me. There is no bureaucratic process or automated system, as I once thought there might be when I was a new user. Instead, it's based on informal consensus and some degree of editor fiat. That means that anyone can add or remove whatever cleanup notices as they see fit. Congratulations on writing such an impressive article on your very first attempt! It took me a long time to find the confidence to create my first article, and it was a daunting process. If you'd like to align the references into columns, you can change {{reflist}} to {{reflist|30em}}. This will set the columns to be of a standard width (it uses em, which is an obscure form of measurement used in typography). NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 09:41, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
- I came across this article when it showed up in the NRHP Project maintenance lists as missing an info box. I have some more information to add (a link to the NRHP nomination form), and a reference or two to remove, and use the nomination form as the source rather than the link to www.nationalregisterofhistoricplaces.com, which is essentially an echo of NRIS, which is driven by the information in the nomination form - the nom form is the original source for the info, as it usually directly referenced if it is available. You are also using wikipedia itself as a reference, and, though it may appear ironic, Wikipedia does not view itself as a reliable source, because anyone can edit it, see WP:WPNOTRS. The only things in Wikipedia that are reliable/verifiable will have citations that you can use directly in your article. You can, of course, supply a wikilink to an article so your reader can look up that item (using its citations to determine that article's worth). - Oh, I'm glad that Generic1139 mentioned that, because I didn't see that. The best way to cite information found on Wikipedia is to go directly to the sources cited in the Wikipedia articles. Like Generic1139 says, Wikipedia itself is not reliable. Images themselves also shouldn't be used as a citation, as they are primary sources and require a degree of personal interpretation in order to back up statements. These sorts of issues are fairly common on new articles, but they shouldn't be too difficult to clean up. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 15:35, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, there is a lot happening in this article. I suggest just using a wikilink to the image rather than making it look like a reference. I'll do the two that were done as references to other NRHP list articles with a comment similar to "click on the photo for item 41". In addition to referencing a wikipedia article, the item numbers aren't fixed points - they will change as new list items are added. Generic1139 (talk) 15:52, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
- I'm done with what I wanted to accomplish. You have done reasonably well in keeping the article WP:NPOV for a property you own. There are only a few un-cited claims, such as " ...its very beautiful waterfall on Brown's River, is one of Vermont's most famous scenic sights. It has been featured in scores of Vermont calendars and magazines." You need to back that with a quote from some reliable source. And in the restoration section, "Plastering was done by Willy Verchereau, the same talented man..." It could be interpreted as plug for the contractors. All in all, nice first effort. Just one thing I was confused on as a reader - you have a heading called "Restoration and opening to the public", which implied to me that the house was open to the public, but you make it clear in the last line of the article that it isn't. It might be better to change the header to note that it was a one time tour, or perhaps just leave that public opening out altogether as it was ephemeral and not really part of the history of the house.
