You deleted my page.

Why should I be held to the standard of a moderator whose name is "Bongwarrior." Put my page up for proposed deletion. But don't just remove it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ricardothe3rd (talkcontribs) 08:44, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey, don't be discouraged. I got a chuckle out of it. I'm sorry I had to delete your article, but I had no choice. I know you didn't mean any harm, but your article didn't have any references, and it could be considered libelous. We have to take things seriously here. Have a look at the welcome page, and let me know if you need any help. --Bongwarrior (talk) 08:53, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Sandbox

Is there any chance I could get the code back from "Los Arboles Negros" so that I could use it in my sandbox or user-page? Thanks. Sorry to be rude in my previous post, I was frustrated because I spent two hours making that article to have it removed before I could hit refresh. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ricardothe3rd (talkcontribs) 19:09, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

There's a pretty good chance, but I'll have to think about it first. I'll talk to you about it either later on today or tomorrow. --Bongwarrior (talk) 19:38, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for at least considering it. I'll follow up later tonight then.--Ricardothe3rd (talk)20:11, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
Have you come to a decision? - Ricardothe3rd (talk) 03:50, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
Ordinarily, I'd be happy to just restore this to your userspace, where greater latitude is usually given. However, due to the possible libel concerns I mentioned above, I wouldn't be comfortable having this in userspace either, as presently constructed. My main concerns are the pictures and the presumably real names. If you'd like to rework the article to omit these, and post it on your userpage or something, I wouldn't have a problem with that at all. I'd be happy to email you a copy of the article for this purpose, or if you'd like to have a copy for your own use (make sure your email is enabled under preferences). Just let me know. --Bongwarrior (talk) 04:53, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Removing POV and material without reference.

Hello,

Since the Blockland article was nominated for Deletion, a lot of information has been added to the article by WP:SPA's. The new information is pretty much POV and no new references have been added. I have already went through the article and removed all POV and all material without citation to try to make the article fit WP:NPOV, only for my edit to be reverted by one of the Single purpose accounts. I am just wondering if I should go through the article again or not. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!--gordonrox24 (talk) 21:08, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

I would probably just fact tag the disputed material first, and see if any references turn up. --Bongwarrior (talk) 21:35, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
Ok thanks, I will try that for a while.--gordonrox24 (talk) 21:45, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

why did you delete the frank "sinatra aids" scandel page?

are you not aware that this is a real event?

what if i wrote about Freddie Mercury (another singer/songwriter who had AIDS) contracting the deadly Virus, would THAT be defamatory? no, it wouldn't be. Diseases and handicaps aren't considered libel. you should know that, dude.

in any case, this was a real event. even if viruses were considered defamatory, one cannot hide the truth. if i wrote a biography on Hitler, could i be sued for explaining the fact that he is considered by many historians to be a megalomaniac? no...then why was this page pulled down?

reinstate it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Monkeyinredresponse (talkcontribs) 07:07, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Your recent removal of vandalism comment in Moon article

When I made that comment, I was concerned myself that it might provide the "recognition" that vandals seek, so therefore it might actually reinforce the vandalism. But I thought I'd give it a try just to see if it would be helpful. Since it's invisible, and therefore doesn't actually "clutter" the article itself, I assume that you have something more against the idea that you have not shared yet? I'd appreciate your counsel and guidance on the matter.  .`^) Painediss`cuss (^`.  10:04, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I just didn't find it very useful, although it was an interesting idea. If we left a personalized hidden note for everyone that vandalized, an article like Great Barrier Reef would reach 400K in no time. While it's true that it doesn't actually clutter the article, it does slightly clutter the edit window. Sometimes hidden notes can be useful for recurring vandalism from multiple editors (the Atlantic Records "you suck" vandalism, for example), but I don't think a one on one approach like this offers enough of a benefit. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 19:18, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
I understand. I was hoping that such a comment might be effective enough so as to ease the recurring vandalism challenge rather than to add to it. However, I agree that the benefit might well be minimal. And I realize that editors whose focus is on vandalism are continuously looking for ways to meet the vandalism challenge. I was undoing vandal edits long before I became a member of the community, and I will keep tabs on any new ways to fight vandalism that Wikipedia editors create. Best of everything to you and yours!  .`^) Painediss`cuss (^`.  20:05, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

RE: TFA Protection

Hey there Bongwarrior (cool name, btw, haha)! Yeah, definitely no worries on the unprotection, if you ever think I'm away and have done something out of sorts, revert away mate. Apologies for the confusion on the edit summary; I had semi-protected the previous three or four day's main page featured articles after they had been vandalised dozens of times, and I accidentally used the same text when typing in the "other reason" (my browser saves what I type in those boxes, and I must have just glossed over it). I figure since the previous several day's featured articles hadn't been vandalised much since I put the semi-protection on, it would be a good idea to semi-protect the main page featured article starting at the beginning of the day. If you'll look back to the main page featured article's this week, you'll see little to no useful content coming from users hiding behind IP's.

Since the main page featured article is supposed to represent some of the best content we have to offer, it only makes sense that when people click on Learned Hand or any other featured article of the day, they should get to learn about the judge, and not be subjected to silliness regarding the size of a part of this chap's anatomy.

Furthermore, since the article is just about as good as it's going to get, as it's been through the FA process and many volunteers have devoted hours upon hours to this article, it is unlikely that it's going to benefit much from one more day's worth of additional content. That is, while I don't think we should semi-protect all featured articles, they can definitely do with being semi-protected for one day.

In addition, that guideline hasn't been discussed in months, and I took the opportunity to be bold. :D Thanks for the note mate! oceeConas tá tú? 21:43, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey again! Thanks for the note, but I'm not sure if we're on the same page. I actually completely agree with you that anonymous users contribute an enormous amount of time writing quality content and that most users who have registered started out editing anonymously. I definitely don't assume that the bulk of anonymous users are vandals; quite the opposite actually! However, since the featured article of the day is unlikely to be improved much and the clear history that the vast majority of people using IP's to edit that page on that day are doing so to vandalise the page, it only makes sense to keep the article semi-protected. If they'd like to edit the featured article of the day in the future, they can just register an account; it's easy and there's a clear link pointing them towards how to register an account when they find that they are restricted from editing that page.
I appreciate your wiki-ideology and I agree with it to an extent. I think it's great that anyone can volunteer their time to help build an encyclopedia; it's an amazing project and a testament to what can be accomplished when people work together. However, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of pages on the English Wikipedia that are protected in some form. I believe that the means justify the ends with regards to semi-protecting the main page, as we are ensured that the article represents the best we have to offer, ensures that the work that the dedicated writers put in won't be besmirched, and also ensures that each visitor gets to read a quality article free of vandalism. I'd be happy to get the community's opinion on the issue, and if it's determined that there's a clear mandate not to semi-protect the main page featured article, well then great! I'm more than happy to follow the community's decision on this, but since WP:NOPRO is only a guideline and there hasn't been much discussion lately, I think that semi-protecting the featured article of the day is definitely the way to go. oceeConas tá tú? 16:10, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi, not sure that signing this page as requested does anything for you, seeing that I'm apparently "hiding behind an IP". Reason being that I don't have the time to devote to Wikipedia to even figure out how to "come out". Anyway, I just tried to remove a bunch of vandalism from today's main page and have to agree that protecting or semi-protecting the main page, at least for the day, is a sound principle. Please keep doing it. I keep telling everyone I know that Wikipedia is totally cool and doesn't feature much vandalism, it's really sad when the first sight of it looks different. Please do, everyone, protect (or semi-protect) the main page for that day. (Anonymous) 09:37, 7 May 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.126.85.141 (talk)

To a fellow-patroller

Hi Bongwarrior. I'm not an admin, but I do a fair amount of quality-control on Wikipedia - maybe you've spotted 1 or 2 warnings I've issued in the past. Of course I have noted that you do a LOT of such patrolling. We both know the system usually works very well, provided users are given fair and appropriate, escalating warnings, eventually being reported if they continue.

But it seems it can happen that the odd user is harder to rein in. Such is the case I fear with this user - would you say I've given them sufficient, clear warnings?

However, to my surprise, when I duly reported them, a single overseer apparently dismissed all my concerns in short shrift.

I think that, with your background, you too may have a contribution to make to what I had hoped might be a greater debate?

Equally, if I've missed some valid points of policy or protocol, I'd be grateful if you could point such things out to me, as you see fit. Thanks in advance for any time you could spare to this. Trafford09 (talk) 11:19, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, but I don't think this editor's contributions require any action. There doesn't seem to be any mass linking agenda here–many of their edits don't involve any date linking at all. I don't think the injunction was intended to prohibit the occasional linking or unlinking of dates, although I haven't been following the whole date linking debacle. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 19:41, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Hobo Knife

Dear Bongwarrior, I was viewing an article that contained a link to the "Hobo Knife" article and notice when I followed the link you had removed it. I am not an experienced Wikipedia user, yet I am trying to format this as well as I can. I'm am not going to write a big reply, but I just wanted to point out that this is a name of a real type of knife that I sell at the hardware store I work at. It is not meant to be slang or disrespectful. Here is a link to the major US producer, W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company1 of quality knives: "Amber%20Bone"&View=1&Item=0052.

The Hobo

When the Hobo (54HB) is closed, it resembles a regular Trapper. The handle splits apart revealing a separate knife, fork, spoon and bottle opener. Case produced two variations of the Hobo ('51 and '52) from the early 1900s-1940. These were made with two to four utensil implements using a can opener, soup spoon, three-pronged fork, and knife blade. Case re-introduced the Hobo (54) in 1983.

The above information came from another Wikipedia page2.

Thank you for your time! Fastskyl1ne (talk) 21:19, 24 May 2009 (UTC)fastskylne

Hi Fastskyl1ne, thanks for dropping by. Don't worry, you aren't missing out on anything. The deleted article didn't have any content except for gibberish, probably just a test. Anyone who wants to make a serious attempt at creating the article is welcome to have a go at it, as far as I'm concerned. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 07:58, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Please stop reverting the changes on this page.

Many hours of work went into planning this prank, and it was pulled of successfully. Newsreporters and newspapers are picking up the story as I type. Thousands of students made reference to Clooney in their GAT today. Clooney's publicist even contacted Lucas Shipsides (the man behind the idea) to tell him the George is impressed. Regarding an article I just made

I just made my first article for Las Hermanas Montoya, but whenever I do a Google search it keeps showing up as User:Hatman1960/Las Hermanas Montoya. Is there any way I can get rid of the User:Hatman1960 before the article title when performing a Google search? I've tried requesting an Administrator to delete the page created under my username, but it still shows up, so I recreated it just so it could serve as a redirect to the main article. How can I get the title to show up as just Las Hermanas Montoya in Google and searches? --Hatman1960 (talk) 05:02, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Attributing work

Wondering if you can answer a question I've been trying to resolve lately (the admin I previously asked has been away). To simply reiterate: I'm trying to figure out how I might give a proper attribution for work that was originally posted on a Wikia site (by me). This is in regards to the Beverly Hills, 90210 franchise article, which has adapted some material from its Wikia counterpart (though they are not exactly the same).

I've been reading over the WP:Plagiarism page and came across the link to planetary nomenclature. I've attempted to apply the method displayed there to the article in question. I'd just like to verify that it's been done the right way. If not, do you know how I might go about it? -- James26 (talk) 06:31, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

I need an independent administrator

Hi. I am currently involved in a content dispute and a couple of users who I think are obvious sock puppets have shown up and started edit warring. At first I blocked them, but then I thought again because I am involved in a content dispute on that page. I have unblocked them so as to allow someone not involved with the dispute at Rorschach test to make the determination. I clicked on the logs button and viewed all blocks to find an active admin and at the top of the list was:

00:16, 8 July 2009 Bongwarrior (talk | contribs | block) blocked Jasoninsolo

The pattern is like so:

22:10, 7 July 2009 Psychology12345 creates a new account
22:11, 7 July 2009 Psychology12345 removes images
22:25, 7 July 2009 Psychology12345 removes images
22:32, 7 July 2009 Zeitgest creates a new account
22:36, 7 July 2009 Zeitgest removes images
22:43, 7 July 2009 Zeitgest removes images

I would appreciate it if you could take a look at these accounts and come to your own conclusion as to if they are single purpose accounts for edit warring, and if any sort of block is prudent. If you don't have time or don't wish to do so for any other reason I will understand. Chillum 00:23, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Well, it seems pretty obvious that they are the same person, and they are probably going to be SPAs, but personally I would hold off blocking unless there are any future problems. I've left each of them a notice about edit warring and hopefully they'll decide to use one account or the other to start a dialogue. Hope that's satisfactory, take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 00:40, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi there Bongwarrior and thanks for reverting the vandalism twice on my user page. Caption
As long as the image has already been uploaded to either Wikipedia or Commons, usually something like will work, which produces the image on the right. Just change the filename and caption as needed. Other options, such as forced image sizing or alignment, are available as well. The other options are listed at Wikipedia:Images.
If you still need to upload the image first, just go to Wikipedia:Upload and follow the instructions there. Please keep in mind that most images on Wikipedia should be free, non-copyrighted images, although non-free images are permissible in certain situations. The licensing stuff can be a little confusing, so let me know if you need any help there. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 03:09, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Concerning the Doctor.

Ahail!
I won't blame you for deleting the article of Dr. Steel, since it's the rule to delete articles that were already deleted once, but I would like to know why Wikipedia doesn't accept an article about Dr. Steel. I've heard rumours of him being not known enough? Well, if I may be so bold to add; that's nonsense. His Toy Soldier army has 4825 'Soldiers', 397 'Nurses', 333 'Scouts' and 36 'Yellow Jackets', from all over the globe. And that's not all; many more people who don't bother to enlist know him, listen to his music, have heard of him, and thus would really much like to know what they're hearing about in the first place.
There should be a wiki article about him for these people, people who want to find out more about the man, like me and many others.

So to stick to my question; why may there not be a Dr. Steel article?

Greetings, Rick.94.213.19.118 (talk) 12:00, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Pardon me for interjecting, I've watched this discussion for a while. Dr. Steel has been the focus of a massive astroturfing campaign that has run for a couple of years now; it's been created at at least four different names, multiple times, has been contested through Articles for Deletion processes and deleted, has been discussed at deletion review, and generally beaten with a stick until dead. Every single time, the point has been raised that there are minimal to no reliable sources that have covered Dr. Steel - and the bit on Leno, the interview on Suicide Girls, and a couple of others that appear regularly have been rejected multiple times as not being enough to establish notability. If you think there's reliable sources to be found, then you're welcome to register an account and create an article in your user space; you can then take it to Deletion Review and ask for approval to have one of the names opened for recreation. It'll take a very large leap from the last discussions, though, so be advised. Tony Fox (arf!) 19:13, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks a lot, but it's no big deal. There are so many vandal patrollers on the job, someone is bound to notice it within 60 seconds. I just happened to be the one :) --Bongwarrior (talk) 22:55, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Not sure why it was unprotected in the first place... –Juliancolton | Talk 01:06, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

C'mon, everyone at the same time now: shocking. SHOCKING. Who would have guessed that's what would happen. </sarcasm> tedder (talk) 01:11, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
Well, sometimes it's nice to try unprotection to see if people will behave. Usually they don't, but it's still worth a shot, in keeping with our Wiki ethos. --Bongwarrior (talk) 01:14, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
It was unprotected because of an RFUP request (and related discussion). As BW says, just to see how it went. Encyclopedia anyone can edit and all =] I don't disagree with the re-protection (or even the indefinite period, it's clear that this article will likely never benefit from anonymous contributions). –xenotalk 13:23, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, but you don't appear to meet Wikipedia's notability requirements yet. --Bongwarrior (talk) 06:04, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

are you kidding, did you even read it? I am an avid armature kite enthusiast and a Panarchanist! if thats not notability then what is, i bet there is a Wiki page on less important people than me for example, Tom Cruise.... Get a job! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.212.199.202 (talk) 06:11, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

He is the head of Australia's Panarchist movement and is currently writing a thesis. He might not be important in America but he is kinda a big deal among some circles in Australia —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.59.7.159 (talk) 07:23, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Not that big of a deal, it would seem. [6] --Bongwarrior (talk) 07:30, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

so your sole source of information is the internet?? you sad sad indevidual.. Tell me were you picked on a lot in school? a bit of a loner, heres the big question do you spend most your time yelling at kids though a microphone that is strapped to your head while your playing computer games late into the night, while most people your age seem to be outside??? does this describe you?, when you are out in a social environment do you feel awkward like you dont belong? So you think that there is something wrong with the world not you, so then somebody gave you a little "power" and you desided that this is you time to shine, you can take revenge on all those jocks that ripped on you and all those people that thought that you weren't that interesting. Well buddy lets just say if deleting harmless pages from a wiki makes you life better in some way then I'm glad to be part of making someone feel good about themselves today. Have a great weekend, I know I will. Thanks, Michael Botsis —Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.212.199.202 (talk) 07:46, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Sticks and stones, Mike, sticks and stones. I'm sorry I had to delete your article, but Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a free webhost for your personal bio. There are plenty of other websites for that. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 08:17, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Chocolate Gravy

Just FYI, it's real, not vandalism. It's mentioned on the 'Gravy' entry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.71.9.7 (talk) 19:30, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Hey. Can I have the deletion log thingy for that? From Wikibin it looks like a good article, so if and when he makes his professional debut I can use that rather than start from scratch.--EchetusXe 20:17, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Sure, restored here. --Bongwarrior (talk) 22:37, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

I'm trying to get the article "Video game" back to GA status, or (only in my dreams) FA status. Could you help me review it so I can figure out what to work on?Abce2|Aww nuts!Wribbit!(Sign here) 21:31, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

I got some refs that where needed, but I can't find anything about "core games". Do you know anything about them?Abce2|Aww nuts!Wribbit!(Sign here) 22:29, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

...Abce2|Aww nuts!Wribbit!(Sign here) 21:21, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I sort of took a spur of the moment wikibreak. I recently started a new job, and I thought it would be best to devote my full attention to it for the time being. I expect to be editing more regularly before too much longer, and I'll try to offer some improvements to the article whenever I am able.
And regarding core games, I'm afraid I have no idea. I looked around for some refs as well, but I didn't stumble upon anything useful. --Bongwarrior (talk) 02:13, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

Interstellar Marines

Hi, I noticed you deleted the article on Interstellar Marines and it seemed that most of this decision was made because it seemed that Zero Point Software had given up production or something. Well they have just this month posted yet another update on their website of the continuing progress to their game. It is an independent production so it's not moving as quick as most games do, but I feel that deletion of it's page was a mistake. Here is a link to their site, where just Jan. 22, 2010 they released a small prototype for the gun play in the game. http://www.interstellarmarines.com/game/ I'm new to wikipedia so if I am taking this up with the wrong person please let me know. Thank you Sar07g (talk) 05:07, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi Sar07g, welcome to Wikipedia! I deleted that article as a result of this discussion, pretty much for the reasons you describe. But if work on the game is continuing and it ends up being released, then there shouldn't be a problem with restoring the article. However, I don't think it should be restored until a release date is announced, if you find that agreeable. In the meantime, I'd be more than happy to restore the article to your userspace. That way, it wouldn't be an "official" part of the encyclopedia, but you can still edit it and update it and whatever else you want to do with it. Or, if you prefer, you could start a new version of the article from scratch, if you think you're up to it :) Just let me know what you'd like to do.
Once again, welcome, and have fun. --Bongwarrior (talk) 08:21, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for your quick response. While I may still disagree with the original deletion, I can see from the discussion why it was deleted and seems fair to me. It would be nice if you could update it to my userspace, I don't know if I will edit it, but hey, why not.
Thanks again for your help, Sar07g (talk) 20:18, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
