Thanks for the accolades! Do I detect a little indirect encouragement to take on the Girl Scout article on the Chalet? -- btphelps (talk) (contribs) 06:02, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
Yes, it's been waiting for you for a long time. RlevseTalk 03:04, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

LDS naturists

The person who wrote the 'LDS naturists' section has been absent for about two years. As I'm not a LDS church member, I've been reluctant to do any edits on it, but I'll remove the word "growing."

RGNU (talk) 02:29, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. I noticed you've done a lot of work on that and related pages. Keep up the good work! -- btphelps (talk) (contribs) 05:48, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

SS John Stagg AfD

Re your comment in the AfD debate "Nothing notable found and nothing notable portending" - the ship was rebuilt twice, increasing in tonnage each time and lengthened once. Does that not give her some notability? Mjroots (talk) 06:40, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Mjroots, seeing as this post is soley about the AFD, do you not think that you should instead discuss it at the actual AFD and not privately on a user's talk page. Ryan4314 (talk) 07:18, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
Mjroots, please add your comments to the AfD discussion, that's where they will get the attention they deserve. -- btphelps (talk) (contribs) 22:19, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Your opinion on what appears to be "Waraji"

Just wondering what your opinion is regarding small skirmishes.[1] How much effort should one put into keeping offensive material out of articles, etc.? Should I just delete the box from my user page and watch list? Thanks, MrBell (talk) 22:54, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

My personal belief is that we should stand up for Wikipedia policy. We must not shrink from confronting those who would violate consensus-based standards to advance their own agenda, especially at others' expense. If you don't want to run the risk of that particular userbox being violated again, causing porn to display on your userpage, but wish to monitor whether it is vandalized, you could always just add it to your watch list. But I think that's probably what they want, to force users to abandon that userbox. So I'll stick with it. -- btphelps (talk) (contribs) 00:08, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Barnstar of Guidance

The Guidance Barnstar
I hereby award you this barnstar of guidance, for your continuing good advice and willingness to help out a relatively new user with some concerns. It is appreciated! MrBell (talk) 17:15, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, though I am impressed by the information and policies I've seen you dig up and the patience you've demonstrated. I don't think I am much better at this than you. Drop me a note via email, why don't you. -- btphelps (talk) (contribs) 18:14, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Thank you

Thanks for the barnstar. (By the way, check out Fort Ticonderoga; it's coming along quite nicely.) Magic♪piano 14:29, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I saw that too. It should be ready for GA Review soon! -- btphelps (talk) (contribs) 17:20, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Captain-Elisha-Phelps-House-museum.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Captain-Elisha-Phelps-House-museum.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nyttend (talk) 19:03, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Userboxes

Please do not recreate the content of userboxes which have deleted at MfD on your userpage. Thanks. Black Kite 07:31, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

  • To be honest, I don't really care what your views are on marriage or anything else, however - if something is deleted at XfD then it needs to stay deleted - if it's restored, then fine, put it back on your page. Personally I'd delete every userbox on the usbject of politics, sexuality, religion etc. that starts "This user believes that..." because they don't contribute to the encyclopedia at all and only serve to foster division. Black Kite 07:30, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Sorry to say this, BT

But you are being just a tad hasty with the deletion tags. Boy Ge Mendes and Ana Firmino are both highly regarded Cape Verdean musicians, as even a cursory google search will reveal. I'm creating the stubs and will add further details soon. In the meantime, would you be so kind as to desist from deleting everything in sight. I've been on WP for more than 4 years with 3,000 or more edits and have created at least a couple of hundred new articles on various topics, all of which were of encyclopedic value and have stood the test of time. I assure you that I am perfectly aware of WP's rules of notability. Thanks for your patience. --Peripatetic (talk) 12:13, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

With regard to your speedy deletion tag on this article will you please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Peerage and Baronetage and reconsider your actionOrdyg (talk) 12:31, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

The article as tagged was short, but certainly not empty or a candidate for CSD A3. --Tikiwont (talk) 13:40, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion tags

Thanks for helping out with the new page patrol. Nevertheless, a rather high part of your recent tags are not correct. Please review the criteria in WP:CSD that re supposed to be understood narrowly (see e.g. Benedict Kingsbury and above.) CSD A7 in particular does not apply to anything not explicitly listed there, in particular not to types of tombs[2], dance styles[3] or novels[4]. Thanks. --Tikiwont (talk) 13:50, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Appreciate the tip, but using WikiEd for tagging didn't offer a ready template for non-notable tombs, dances, etc, so I picked the closest one. Let me know what a better alternative is.-- btphelps (talk) (contribs) 19:46, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
There is no ready made template because they just don't qualify for speedy deletion (for lack of asserting importance). Which is why I asked you to review the policy. The alternatives are proposed deletions and deletion discussions.--Tikiwont (talk) 21:14, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
Your recent tags of disused stations in the New York City Subway (example: 84 Street (IRT Third Avenue Line)) do not meet WP:CSD criteria and have been removed. Disused rail stations and lines are notable and there are numerous Wiki articles. Though small, this article is sufficient as a stub (see WP:STUB that may grow in the future. Truthanado (talk) 03:43, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Please see my comment at the above. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 19:57, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
