Your "special pages" question...[edit]

I saw your question to Gamaliel and felt I'd volunteer answers that will hopefully make it clearer why you're seeing the pages you do. A "special page" is one that is automatically generated by the system, rather than by direct editing as is the norm for wiki pages. So the list of "special pages" (Special:Specialpages) is itself a special page, as is the "Recent changes" page (Special:Recentchanges), as is each user's watchlist (Special:Watchlist/Buck Mulligan, for example)... as is the list of the changes each person has made, like this list: Special:Contributions/24.80.152.101.

I'm betting that page there is the one you described seeing. If you look at the history page for Mexico (game) again, you'll see that some contributors are listed in the format "Name (Talk|Contribs)", and some are listed as "Name (Talk)". Users whose corresponding user page exists are shown in the first format; users whose corresponding user page does not exist are shown in the second, and their name or IP address links, not to the empty user page, but to their contribs list. I don't pretend to understand the design rationale for that, but that's why clicking "24.80.152.101" led you to 24.80.152.101's contributions page. -- Antaeus Feldspar 14:12, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Craps[edit]

I think you're right on your recent edits to the craps article. I should have included all three sayings for toking the dealers. I didn't even think to include both, but was thrown off when I read that "the most common way" was to say something I've never heard. I think the article is better now. Thanks! -- Amoore 19:17, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mexico[edit]

Hey, did you invent the dice game Mexico yourself? I havnt found it mentioned anywhere else besides wikipedia. But me and my friends have tons of fun playing it

Nope, I didn't invent the game. A few years ago I was at a bar with some friends here in Montreal, where I live, when I noticed a bunch of girls at the next table over were taking turns dropping a couple of dice into an empty ashtray. I asked them what they were doing, and they taught us how to play. I suppose one of them might have invented it, but somehow it never occured to me to ask. Anyway, I'm glad you and your friends like the game! Buck Mulligan 20:27, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IP protection[edit]

I've protected your user page from editing by IP's - should get rid of him/her. If his casues you any difficulty, let me know. The protecion is set to finish after a day - again, if that is not enough, let me know. Now I'll have a look at blocking the vandal. Banno 06:23, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since the vandal's block will run out soon, and it is against policy to block IP addresses for more than a day or so, I have again protected your user page from editing by any IP account, but this time for a much longer period. I assume this is OK with you, but if not, let me know and I will remove the protection. Banno 10:19, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much, Banno. I really appreciate your continued efforts on my behalf. As for blocking IPs from editing my user page, that's fine with me. In fact, it'd be fine with me if the block lasted forever. (Note: I'm also leaving a copy of this message on your Talk page.) Buck Mulligan 15:47, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Userpage Vandalism[edit]

I'm not an admin (though I wish I was), so I can't protect your page. But you can go to WP:RFPP, and request protection there. Abeg92contribs 09:54, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

I've blocked the user for an extended period - should be non-controversial under the circumstances; if this recurs, I will block permanently. Banno 11:00, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also permanently semi-protected; let me (or some other admin) know if you want this removed. Banno 11:04, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Buck[edit]

Hay Buck why were you so rude to that guy back on talk cat that ask why his cat stops and moves when he follows him around? I mean I know you think your god and everything but even so you still could have showed some consideration. 76.174.134.16 04:56, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(This user has been banned for obnoxious behavior, much of it, it seems, having to do with his/her relentless vandalization of the "Cat" page.) Buck Mulligan (talk) 16:37, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Paracetamol[edit]

Hello, I am the author of the POV sentence you removed from this article. I'd like to thank you for leaving the sentence after it (with the reference) intact. I couldn't think of a more neutral way to word it, but I think the facts, as laid out in the reference work, speak for themselves. Nice to see some compromise on WP these days, thanks again. 70.141.127.83 05:11, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem! As I said in the edit comments, I'm sympathetic to your perspective. I also agree that it's a fine thing to edit this thing together without somebody getting annoyed or defensive. Cheers! Buck Mulligan 15:43, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article on Jayne Mansfield, that you helped greatly to improve has been up for peer review. Many improvements were suggested, and I managed to address a few of those issues. But, without your help the article is getting stagnant. The biggest problem still lies with style and citations. Please, take a look that review here. I really believe that the time is ripe for the article to become at least a good article, if not an feature article, with your help. Aditya(talkcontribs) 05:49, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sources for Dolphy as George Lane[edit]

The most direct source is the Liner Notes to "The Heavyweight Champion: The Complete Atlantic Recordings", pgs. 24 and 66. On page 24 (in Lewis Porter's essay, which is most of the liner notes) we are told "Ostensibly because Dolphy was under contract to Prestige Records at the time, the original issue identified him as 'George Lane'!" This was a common practice, especially with Prestige artists (who we're always happy to work for the better pay and conditions of a place like Atlantic, but were contractually bound to Prestige, the "junkies label"). This should in no way imply Dolphy ever went by the name of George Lane.Editor437 (talk) 12:00, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I had to look back at that to see. I'm not going to replace the tag, but someone else might because the band does not appear to meet WP:BAND, which was the criteria I used. I don't think 'hearing of them' passes but the article needs reliable source coverage to back up claims of notability -- reviews, tours, etc. Note also I didn't nominate it for deletion but rather question its notability. Please feel free to ask me if this isn't clear, because right now I'm sleepy. TRAVELLINGCARIMy storyTell me yours 03:34, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No worries, glad to help. Let me know if you'd like any help on the article once you track down sources TRAVELLINGCARIMy storyTell me yours 18:45, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for February 20[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Andrew Bergman, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page So Fine (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
