Monroe County photos

Thanks for the Monroe County NRHP photos — being in Western Ohio, there's no way that I can imagine getting to Monroe County myself. I was curious: would you be willing to reupload them to Commons? Several points:

• Is Mills correct in saying that the Petroglyph is southeast of Barnesville? I saw some random online source that said southwest or northeast or something like that.
• I don't have any information on the Opartny Village Site. I've looked for information, but I can't find anything. Mills' Atlas doesn't show any villages anywhere near the current location of I70
• Thanks for finding the details for the Tower Site! Are you sure that it's northwest of Barnesville? I've found a location that fits every detail of the description, except that it's almost exactly west of Barnesville. While it's only about three miles to the west, I'd guess that it might be a four-mile drive from the northwestern side of Barnesville if you went out of the village on W. Main St., past the airport. I found the location by searching USGS topographical maps for radio towers, which are generally marked on these maps, so I doubt that there's one northwest of Barnesville that doesn't appear here. To get the map, see the USGS location for the Barker Cemetery — click http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis538/getgooglemap?p_lat=39.9786815&p_longi=-81.2337216&fid=1037634, select the "Topo" option (don't zoom in all the way, or it won't display), and observe the radio tower along Track Rock Rd. a short distance to the northeast, at the top of a 1373-foot summit between a small stream to the west and a small stream to the south. Check the "Terrain" tag if you can't see the streams clearly.

Have you checked the local history section in the Barnesville, Bethesda, or St. Clairsville libraries? I wish I had this kind of local information; if I didn't live near enough to the Dunns Pond Mound or the nearby Lake Ridge Island Mounds, I'd have had no idea where they were located. By the way — please don't think that I know Belmont County well; I've never been in the county, other than on I70 and the I70 bypass of Wheeling. I've never even visited Monroe County. Just a note — I see that you've used nationalregisterofhistoricplaces.com as a source for the area of districts. At WP:NRHP, we've realised that its area figures are normally off by a factor of 10; therefore, it's best to source the area under the same reference that comes in the infobox, as it provides correct area figures. Sorry to say that I had to delete the Peter Sarchet House picture. It's definitely not a HABS image; as you will see if you click on any of the Guernsey County links here, the only HABS/HAER pictures in Guernsey County are bridges, and the presence of not-yet-scanned images shows that the entire HABS database is recorded here: there aren't HABS pictures of any other buildings in the county. NRHP in Harrison County

With this edit, you've placed photos for all seven Harrison County listings. Thanks for the note. Are you certain that you have the right locations? The coordinates that the NRIS provides are sometimes in error, but the original nomination forms will have maps. While the forms for these sites aren't online, you can get them for free: simply email nr_reference@nps.gov with a note of which properties and which mailing address to which to send the forms, and you'll get them in the mail. You can also find a photo of the Finley house here. Of course, if you've already checked these and you're sure that you have the right locations, could you perhaps get a picture of the site of the destroyed house and a picture from behind the fence? I've often used photos of empty lots where destroyed buildings were located; see the Botkins Elementary School and Port Jefferson School on the Shelby County list for an example of what I've used. Yes, this is delisted. You can tell by the different years: it was listed in 1979 (shown by the first two digits in the reference number), but its date is 1980, and the NRHP's date for a delisted property is always the date when it was delisted. The property was listed on 23 July 1979, per page 27 of this NRHP document, a catalogue of listings in 1979 and early 1980. Its delisting doesn't seem to appear either in that document or in this one, which includes the rest of 1980 and part of 1981, so I don't know where you'll find it. However, Elkman's generator will tell you what you need to know: among other things, see that it says, "This property may not actually be listed on the National Register - listing code is RN". The "RN" code means "Removed from National Register", so there's no doubt that it was once listed but has been removed. Thanks for finding this site; our coverage of former listings is overall far sparser than our coverage of current listings, due to the paucity of information on them. I'll add a small former-listing table to the Belmont County list momentarily. In the future, if you want to look at pages like the 1979/1980 catalogue, go here and click on the requisite document from the column on the far left side of the page. By the way, the "nrhp website" that you mention is a faulty mirror — it basically took the entire NRHP database and put it online with plenty of errors, including the failure to remove former listings. Separate Noble County list

Just curious, why split out Noble County from National Register of Historic Places listings in Ohio? Simply that the statewide page is too large, or some other reason? Nyttend (talk) 21:37, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

I noticed when I went to print the article out that it was an unwieldy 16 pages (in PDF format). I split the Noble County section from its parent to allow a seperate entry and also since I will be adding the rest of the pictures for the entry hopefully before the upcoming holiday. On a seperate note, I also found out that one of the sites in Guernsey County is indeed demolished. I would say yes and no: yes, you could use it on the article, but no, you couldn't use it on the list. Did you go to the site? If so, did you photograph it? Photo request

I did some digging in the St.C. and OUE Library and found an accurate description of the archaeological site. Armed with this info I went to the location I thought it should be, and luckily the owner came out and verified it as the Brokaw Site. He guaranteed the authenticity by a plaque and certified papers on the site. I was allowed to photograph it as long as I did not reveal its true exact location. It truly is a remarkable location, albeit the site is so delicate that I couldn't walk the actual site but was confined to its perimeter. Bwsmith84 (talk) 02:14, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Another photo

I like the S Bridge II photo; I never realised from the old picture that it was sloped. Curious on a couple of things — is the end of the bridge from which you photographed it really a lot higher than the other end? The S Bridge II does slope upwards as it stretches east over the little creek below. The posts are still there, and another road runs up the hill. A nice landscaped park is on either side of the S bridge and a path runs down to the underside of the bridge allowing you to see the base and arch of the bridge. Hope you've enjoyed the pictures. Oh, on another note of interest, John Glenn was raised on the hill by this bridge, which was located behind me to the right. The house was later moved down the hill and onto the junction of Friendship Drive and Main Street, but was moved to its current location further downtown on Main Street. Sounds interesting; I'd love to visit New Concord, as I know a couple of men who grew up in New Concord with John Glenn, but I've never been closer to the village than I-70. I'm waiting (for quite a while, at this rate) for the snow to let up so that I can get a non-snow-covered picture of the Carl Potter Mound in Champaign County; right now, I'm almost done with Shelby, Auglaize, and Champaign counties. If possible both :) The important one is the 'build date' because if it's post 1992, the rules about taking pictures of architectural works in the US are different to those for buildings constructed prior to 1992.

Greetings! At Wikipedia:WikiProject United States courts and judges, we have bot-created thousands of articles on United States federal judges. Courthouse images

Hi BW. Can you recall from where you got File:Adams County Ohio Courthouse.jpg, File:Jefferson courthouse ohio.jpg, and File:Coshocton County Courthouse.jpg? It appears that these images were taken by Tom Patterson and have been published in the book County Courthouses of Ohio, in 2000. The images appear to have been scanned from that book. If that is the case, then we need to give appropriate attribution in each of these images, stating the publication from which they were taken, and the name of the photographer. Would you check to see if you did scan them from that book, and if so, please update each image with the appropriate attribution. Sawyer-Barrow House

I am working on a page called the Sawyer-Barrow House that is being considered for deletion. I think the only Wikipedia editor pushing to have it deleted is probably not from the Ohio area and therefore doesn't consider it notable enough. I see where back in 2009 you created a similar page for the McCracken-McFarland House and I was wondering with you local knowledge if you could offer your opinion either way. Thanks in advance.
