Hi, you've closed the Tfd for Infobox Conditionals, therefore you might be interested that I posted it on deletion review. They'll probably tell me where to stuff it, because it was only redirected and not deleted, but nevertheless the complete Tfd turned out to be bogus caused by simultaneous modifications of Infobox (now protected). I'm not very interested in the template itself, but care about WP:HIDE, where that template in a version actually using conditionals is referenced. -- Omniplex 20:57, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Look like we were both working on blocking this user. I was placing a 7 hour block when you were going for a 48, I've adjusted it to a 31, if you feel 48 is still needed, feel free to update and I will not touch again. Thanks, — xaosflux Talk 01:51, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the speedy reply, I missed a few of those during my first quick review, I've restored the 48hr block, and will keep an eye out as well. Thanks, — xaosflux Talk 01:59, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User:Independent Chechnya[edit]

Sorry but what is the criteria for a Template deletion? A majority of 22:10? With people expressing openely that such a template is insulting and disregarding of wikipedia... The only reason why I do not want to start the suggested procees of deletion of the whole regional politics userboxes is because I do not use such offensive templates, however think of the quality of wikipedia as a refrence source when sooner or later this will appear:

Do you want that to happen? I don't. Think of the quality of the encyclopedia as a reference source when people see templates like those displayed on the userpages. I seriously urge you to reconsider on that decision, I do not want to take this case to the arbitration committee. --Kuban Cossack 19:33, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IF you can give a good NPOV reason why this ({{User independent Chechnya}}) is "offensive" while none of*{{User independent British overseas territories}}

are, then maybe I'll consider the TFD nomination was in good fate and didn't warrant the speedy keep closure I was sorely tempted to give it as a WP:POINT and WP:NPOV violation. Circeus 00:24, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Territories that you mention might be offensive to some, particulary the British the Israelis the Spaniards. Think what happens when an Israeli person comes to wikipedia and sees these templates on pages of users that write those articles. Do you think he will see wikipedia as a neutral balanced source. Especially if he happens to be an editor of some magazine. Like hell he is going to let that go unnoticed, that wikipedia is being radicalised. However as I am not that kind of person that will support these templates to insult other users I would, had I had time, also included them. However I came here to write artciled not to engage in political correctness of wiki, that I think is the job of the admin, which they seem to ignore.
Now with Chechnya we are not dealing with a quite community we are dealing with people who ignore this [1]. If a template user supports Bin-Laden arrises what will the people of London, Bali, New York, Istanbul, Madrid and Saudi Arabia (particulary those that lost relatives in the numerous bombings) think about this encyclopedia? The template's sole existance is a violation of WP:NPOV. It is personally offensive and is extreamely hate provoking for Russians.
No need to paste answers on my talk page, I watch all the pages I write on.--Kuban Cossack 11:12, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Confused[edit]

comment

Hi, Im not sure I understood the message you left me. Are you saying that one of the references I used is cited twice? If that is what you mean, then it is probably because I was referencing two seperate pieces of information in the article. However, if this is poor Wikipedia practice, then please do make the changes yourself or let me know how to. Thanks --Jackyd101 21:30, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

answer
Sorry, still a little unsure. The two pages are different entries from a database, one dealing with the explosion on the pier and one dealing with the attack on the ship itself. They both have different information about different parts of the incident, so why can't both be presented? Also where do they contradict each other? I couldn't see it--Jackyd101 22:21, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

{-} vs {clear}[edit]

I noticed you changed a {-} to a {clear}, and wondering if you know something I don't. Do they work differently? Stevage 07:17, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

answer
See Template talk:-#- versus clear. I could probably explain why in this particular case, but I'm not sure which article you're referring to. Basically, clear is used for a new "block" element and - is to insert a new line on "inline" elements; think paragraph vs. sentences. Clear is more natural while - is more of an interruption. --J. Categorizing navigational boxes[edit]

So after what I said before, I decided to start sorting some of the music navigational templates. Categories I recently created include Cat:Music navigational boxes, Cat:Music genre navigational boxes, Cat:Music by region navigational boxes, and Cat:Music genre by region navigational boxes. Hopefully, this covers all the templates that have been created thus far. (The templates in question that I know of are linked to from Wikipedia:WikiProject Music genres/Footer and Wikipedia:WikiProject World music/Musicboxes, by the way.) I'm looking for feedback as to whether this works well with the current system.

Actually, something else is already needed — categories for navigational templates by continent, since so many of these are named that way. However, given that navigational templates are also sorted by country, and that there are musical navigational templates by eras and cultures as well, this is a little beyond me at the moment. Any thoughts as to what might be a good hierarchy to use here? –Unint 22:11, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

answer

Thanks for making Cat:Navigational templates by region. I have seen the "Musicboxes" page; do you mean that we should call it that in the category names? Because there were no categories before.
I'm starting to think about how to sort the subcategories of Navigational templates by region, though. I've decided to stop with the subcategories after creating ones for Asia and Europe in addition to the Africa one; now I'm trying to figure out two things.
  1. Should "country" categories get sorted into their corresponding "continent" categories? Would this even be useful?
  2. How would you recommend the "Regional or language based footers" be sorted? I'm starting to think about just sorting them all into the broad category for now, but if a need for subcategorization arises I'm contemplating how to deal with regions defined by language and continent within the same category. –Unint 15:33, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
answer
This really isn't working out so well. I just created North American and South American navigational boxes categories, for the sake of completeness and to sort the rest of the Musicboxes by region. Only, of course, some of them don't fit neatly into continental divides. Still, I think the categories themselves should be able to be populated further...
There are still many country-based Musicboxes left unsorted. However, It seems like it would be a mess to sort some templates by country (and continent?) while others can't be sorted that way because their countries don't have their own template categories. I have no idea what to do about this.
Do you think some kind of formalized category scheme would be useful right about now? –Unint 15:27, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Why did you eliminate Dynamic navigation box from this template? Your edit summary states that there is no need for dynamic navigation box here, but why is that? Also, if such is the case, then the current layout is suboptimal in comparison with the earlier one that predates the introduction of the Dynamic navigation box. Take a look here: [2] You can reply here; I am watching your talk page. -- Mareklug talk 17:43, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I do not believe the template as it was presented was taking enough vertical space to warrant a Dynamic box setting (and although the original can be argued to have, it could have been directly reworked). While the Dynamic box is nifty, the generic templates is not formatted properly to look like a normal footer, and despite my effort, I can't see to be able to get the WIDTH parameter to work. It has been similarly overapplied in several cases, IMHO ({{Olympic Winter Games Host Cities}} for example). Circeus 18:23, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the help on this! I don't speak any languages but English and a teensy bit of French, so I'd never have found those. Infoboxes.[edit]

Hey. I noticed that you've left {{infoboxneeded}} on the talk pages of several articles I wrote (c.f. Talk:Battlefield Baseball). I, personally, don't use them and don't feel the need to use them most of the time. So, if I can politely request that you not to do that, and add the infoboxes yourself if you feel that they're needed? Thanks.--Sean Black 02:14, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

answer
Okay, understood. However, an infobox is not really required as such—I don't believe (obviously) that an article needs one to be "presentable" and relatively "complete" as such. I'm sure others agree with me, but whatever you feel is best. Thank you.--Sean Black 04:07, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User page use and definition of "personal attack"[edit]

Moved this from WP:ANI as it doesn't seem to require admininstrator intervention. --Tony Sidaway 01:17, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User:Grace Note and User:Sean Black appear to have a disagreement over the definition of "personal attack". The latter protected the userpage of the former to keep him from wikilinking Dave Gerard to Dracula. This seems to have to do with the treatment of school articles. Circeus 00:12, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gracenote wrote: I can't see how it's particularly constructive to spend hours, days and weeks burning witches -- why not just empower [[Dracula|Dave Gerard]] et al to kick out whoever they disapprove of, which with the broad interpretation of blocking policy some use is already becoming the case - it sounds like a personal attack to me, despite GN's claims that it's only "harmless fun" [5] Raul654 00:26, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Grace Note has now said I need to "grow up", that I like to "bully" others, that I have to learn that Wikipedia is "not a schoolyard", and that I need to "learn to behave properly around adults."[6] Lovely. To be frank, it's not "harmless fun" by any stretch of the imagination. I don't mind if the page is unprotected, so long as the insult is not restored.--Sean Black 00:29, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I find Grace Note's remark on his userpage about David Gerard pretty insulting altogether; it's not just the pipelink. IMO Grace Note is showing a poor grasp of the NPA policy when he insists that his badtempered remark is "harmless fun". Note that Sean Black isn't proposing blocking GN or anything like that: Sean removed the attack on DG from GN's userpage several times, and only protected when Grace Note kept putting it back. Sean Black's actions here seem to me moderate and reasonable. Grace Note's ageist comments about Sean here are rude and unwarranted. Bishonen | talk 00:31, 19 May 2006 (UTC).[reply]
I've deleted the link to Dracula and restored GN's blanking of his talk page, which seems to be his preference, but which Cuivienen kept undoing, so hopefully there won't be any further escalation. Cups of tea all round, I think. SlimVirgin (talk) 02:43, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sean has a personal problem with me and is picking a fight. Dave Gerard has a sense of humour and doubtless he's well aware of how he's portrayed on a certain website that may not mention its name. He's a goff type and he probably would consider it a huge compliment to be compared with big Vlad ;-) If he feels I've personally attacked him, he's welcome to write me on my talkpage or at my email address and I'll remove it without further comment. What I will not do is be bullied by people who will jump on the smallest nonissue to attack their enemies, even if their mates pile on. Why Sean is even reading my userpage, given our relationship, is beside me: it would be assuming bad faith to say that he does it in the hope of finding something he doesn't like, but I do advise him to change his reading habits if his constitution cannot take a bit of harmless teasing of someone else. Lord knows how he'll be if I ever compare him with a fictional character. What his friends ought to be doing is admonishing him not to cause conflicts with other users over things that are a/ none of his business and b/ trivial, and in particular, admonishing him not to misuse his admin powers in connection with those conflicts. -- GN.

Nonsense. I don't have a "personal problem" with you; I have a problem with those who edit Wikipedia solely to cause trouble and disrupt it's functions; in other words internet trolls. I would have done the samething on any other userpage. For what it's worth, I stumbled upon your userpage as I was reading through User talk:Incorrect. Also, I could care less what you think of me, I don't value your opinions in any way.
Really, though, I have a question. Have you ever considered not being a dick? You seem to relish it, ranting about admin abuse and insulting me rather than taking the reasonable, common sense position and just accepting it? But no, of course not. Instead you deliberately inflamed it, turned it into a full fledged "dispute". All I want from you is for you to stop deliberately disrupting Wikipedia. If you do that, then the problem is settled and we never have to interact again, which would be a perfectly pleasing development for me.--Sean Black 06:46, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I fully support Sean's actions here, but would like to add that if Grace Note wants to blank his talk page, it's only hassling him to keep reverting him. Unless there's a good reasons for posts to remain in place (administrators' posts during a block, for example), it just adds unnecessarily to the ill feeling to revert someone who removes unwelcome comments from his talk page. The posts remain in the history anyway, so in the event of needing evidence for an RfC or an RfA, the diffs are still available. And if the user has deleted the comments, we know he has seen them. AnnH 09:54, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Seen this? CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 13:06, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure David Gerard wouldn't mind that his name is being linked to Dracula. JarlaxleArtemis 05:05, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

re: re: Tentomon[edit]

comment

The reason I changed the Tentomon page was that there are a lot of digimons that didn't digivolve in the anime that have their evolved forms included in their pages. If you look in Kabuterimon's page, for example, you will see that HerculesKabuterimon is listed as its Mega form. The same happens with a lot of other digimon. So, if you want to correct Tentomon's page, you should also correct Kabuterimon's, Togemon's, Bakumon's, Wizardmon's, Hagurumon's, Kokwamon's, just to name a few. You should also remember that page isn't just for "anime Tentomon". It's for the Tentomon species in general. Tentomon in fact digivolves to HerculesKabuterimon in other medias, like the Digimon Pendulum. -- Idiota Invisível, 23 May 2006
