Kurt Cobain[edit]

Just finished an edit of Kurt Cobain where I tried to deal with the suicide dispute stuff. Lots of deleting and some moving. Not really any of what I removed was appropriate for the individual book and movie articles describing about the suicide theories, so the only place it seems reasonable is the "Is-a-good-idea-if-you-think-about-it-but-really-needs-work" Death of Kurt Cobain article, where most of it is anyway. Please post comments or concerns about my edit on the Kurt Cobain talk page so we can attempt to craft a consensus version of the article there. WesleyDodds 12:06, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Godsmack[edit]

Hi, would you please talk some sense into User:Demantos. He is trying to merge Godsmack discography with Godsmack. Godsmack has enough music to warrent a seperate article for discography, and any substantially successful band has one on wikipedia. Please comment on his talk page, and comment here.

Thank you,

Skeeker [Talk] 01:37, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Franz Ferdinand[edit]

You say that much of the information there was irrelevant, but "The Chateau" stages was one of the most interesting things for me about the band, and if there's a history part of the page then you might as well keep it. It's kind of like removing the "Cavern Club" era off the Beatles wikipedia page.

Also the media section is quite interesting. It's something that's been there before I started editing Wiki and was one of the parts I read about the most. It's kind of exciting and interesting to know about the adverts etc.

Thanks. Paper Back Writer 23 15:36, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Metallica[edit]

Thanks for the edits you made to the article yesterday, much appreciated. Almost finished the re-write :) M3tal H3ad (talk) 12:08, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you ever get the opportunity i would appreciate it if you could look at the article and visit the peer review. If your;e busy then no problem, thanks. M3tal H3ad (talk) 09:44, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Loveless[edit]

I plan to skip Peer Review (shock! horror!) with Loveless (album) and take it to FAC in about a week, given it's been a three-way project between me, Ceoil, and Brandt Luke Zorn, and there's been a few outside looks at it anyway. I would appreciate any feedback you could provide on the article, though. One bit that's still somewhat vexing to us is the lead; I'm considering somehow incorporating the first paragraph of the Recording section into it. WesleyDodds (talk) 10:53, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't mean I was leaving Wikipedia or anything, at least not more than I already have since I have less free time than before. I just don't want to stay involved in that discussion, which is becoming completely unproductive. 17Drew (talk) 17:05, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Cloudnine, after your edits to this page, Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Miami became a Featured Article. I noticed the article page is missing the little brown star in the upper righthand corner. I wanted to bring this to your attention in case it is an oversight. If it is something added by a bot later on, I apologize for bothering you with this detail. Thanks, NancyHeise (talk) 17:44, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pixies article[edit]

I went to my library today and photocopied the entire Spin article. There's nothing really useful for David Lovering (although he does outright say he toured with Cracker and Nitzer Ebb); maybe some stuff that can be used for Joey Santiago. It'll definitely prove useful when you get to working on Kim Deal. WesleyDodds (talk) 04:35, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A though: do you want me to just mail the article to you? WesleyDodds (talk) 10:51, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I should be able to send it out Monday. Be warned: it took me a few pages to get the hang of the photocopier, so some of the words at the edges are missing. Anything else you want me to look through/photocopy? WesleyDodds (talk) 12:23, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The analysis of "Could You Be the One?" is rather short (about half a page), so I'll just type it for you in an e-mail. My university library has a number of issues of Alternative Press, Mojo, and Spin, so there's that in addition to what I have on-hand. I have a ton of Guitar World issues I haven't catalogue yet. My buying habits for that magazine revolve around whether or not there's an article and/or tab I want. Thus anything to do with Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, punk rock, and other items when I could afford it. So I end up with stuff like this one issue of Bass Guitar from two years ago (which I bought solely because it transcribes the Stooges' "Search and Destroy") that has an interview with Mike Watt. WesleyDodds (talk) 12:40, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just sent off the article. You should expect it in "ten business days". WesleyDodds (talk) 22:06, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! LuciferMorgan recommended you as one of the users to review the article Hybrid Theory which is currently undergoing a second peer review and might soon become a featured article. With your help and scrutiny on the article, that goal might just become true. If there is anything at all, please reply on my talk page. Thanks! (SUDUSER)85 06:38, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Persian Gulf naming mediation[edit]

First of all, thanks for accepting the mediation case. As for your request, where should that be provided, in the actual mediation page, or will you be formatting the discussion page to provide for position statements? - Arcayne (cast a spell) 09:14, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Want some mediation help?[edit]

...as I'd like to offer my assistance, such as it is. I saw the open case and was toying with the idea of taking it on myself, as a new mediator, and decided to take time to think on the idea. I see you've accepted the case. I'm offering to assist you, perhaps by helping you collect evidence, proofread your proposal, or otherwise perform clerk-like functions. I think that mediation will probably be more coherent if there is only *one* mediator, so I'm not asking to be co-mediator. Let me know what you think. -Orphic (talk) 12:36, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good. I should mention that I notice one of the participants in the dispute offered a number of JSTOR links in support of his position. I have access to JSTOR (or will for the next day or so, until I start holiday travel). Would you like me to run those links down? - Orphic (talk) 07:20, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help please[edit]

Can you inform me whether there is a article on a Tour by a musician which is either FA or GA. I am not able to find one. I am planning to get The Sweet Escape Tour to GA and need a model. Thank you. Reply anxiously awaited. Indianescence (talk) 12:15, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So this means that an article on a tour should have only tour dates and the songs performed and nothing else? This is really confusing. Because The Sweet Escape tour has way too many other things. Indianescence (talk) 11:46, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have posted a message there. But what all things you would like to see in a tour article. What should the article have. Any basic necessities? Just wanted to know so that i have a brief idea of what all to put up there. Indianescence (talk) 17:37, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! I'll be expecting your review of Hybrid Theory today or sometime later, whichever suits you. If there is anthing up, please visit my talk page. Thanks! (SUDUSER)85 08:12, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've put the article for FAC. If you want to review the article and/or scrutinize anything, you can always say what needs improvements here. (SUDUSER)85 07:03, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mission of Burma[edit]

I'm visiting my brother out of town, thus I don't have my copy of Our Band Could Be Your Life one hand. Go ahead and cite your copy if you have it handy. WesleyDodds (talk) 12:03, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Useful New York Times article about reunion. Items of note: The band is listed as having sold "fewer than 50,000 albums in its first incarnation", and Michael Azerrad says the band told him the chapter in Our Band Could Be Your Life contributed to their decision to reunite. WesleyDodds (talk) 09:11, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notes and references within Pixies articles[edit]

Hey man. I noticed you reverted my edit on David Lovering that moved the references above the notes. I just wanted to say that you should consider flipping these two on all Pixies-related articles. It's much more clearer and continent for the reader if the references are above the notes. I'm not sure if there is a guideline supporting this, but the logic behind it shouldn't be hard to understand. If you're averse to dealing with the tedium of doing this on every Pixies article, I'd be more than happy. Since you're the Pixies dude, I'm definitely running this by you before I just start doing it. Regards. Grim (talk) 04:05, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you've been away for the past few days. Have you any input on this issue? Grim (talk) 02:54, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've basically gone through and changed and cleaned up the references on the majority of Pixies articles. There are a few lower-quality articles that I didn't touch, but I figured that the reference cleanup for those can be done if/when article improvement takes place. Grim (talk) 00:47, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sure thing friend. Grim (talk) 18:07, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

"Freak Scene", definitely. On another topic, I was wondering what you'd think about adding a "Recommended album of the month" feature to the newsletter. Given a lot of people in the project have very specific interests, this might be a fun way of introducing people to great records. We wouldn't do insanely obvious stuff, though (Nevermind, Murmur, Loveless, Surfer Rosa, and the like). WesleyDodds (talk) 11:52, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just noticed that Stereolab is listed twice at Portal:Alternative music/Selected articles. WesleyDodds (talk) 12:36, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How can Henry Hitchcock have been President of the ABA in 1890 if he died in 1839? I already know the answer... it's a different Henry Hitchcock. I de-linked the name and put a note in the article.--Dr who1975 (talk) 19:44, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Of all the uncited things on the page, some of which were added by you, why single out Lewis Franklin Powell, Jr.... and how is anyone going to know thata citation is needed if you comment his name off the page completely. In any event, I added a citation. There's nothing on Benjamin Bristow's page that says he was President of the ABA (except for Category:Presidents of the ABA I added after you put him the list) so I marked his name with the citation needed template (without removing it's visibility from the page).--Dr who1975 (talk) 22:41, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

STLS move[edit]

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" was moved to "Smells like Teen Spirit" again even though it had been settled right before it appeared on the Main Page that we would leave it at the proper title (since it is never written as "Smells like Teen Spirit"). Can you undo this? WesleyDodds (talk) 07:07, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Persian Gulf mediation[edit]

I've been away and it looks like some dim little bulb removed the protection on the article. Of course, edit-warring has resumed unabated. What was the result of the Mediation? - Arcayne (cast a spell) 05:56, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Fool the world.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Frank Black[edit]

Yeah, according to this site: http://www.whosdatedwho.com/celebrities/people/dating/frank-black.htm, Black is Catholic. If you don't mind, I am going to add that category again.

Sorry, yeah that probably isn't the best source. This source doesn't explicitly say that Black is Catholic, but you can check it out: http://sonicarchives.com/TASTE/Pages/black.htm —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gmags2003 (talkcontribs) 15:37, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh my god ! You're so quick[edit]

I've just uploaded some free Breeders's and Kelley Deal's pictures from flickr, and when I gone on the Kelley Deal article to see if I can insert a picture in the article, the picture was already there. Firstly, I said myself : s**t, the picture was already uploaded on commons, but is was you who just add the pictures some minutes after I uploaded them. Thanks for using the pictures I have uploaded. Have a good day. DeansFA (talk) 13:58, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jane's Addiction[edit]

Yes, it's very good. It's structured quite like the Pixies oral biography, since both were inspired by articles in Spin. Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro come off pretty badly at points in the book, though (although at least they admit they acted like jerks from time to time). By the way, I saw Perry Farrell at a museum when I was in LA on Friday. That was totally unexpected. WesleyDodds (talk) 01:06, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be a bit of situation going on at Accelerate (R.E.M. album)‎. Check out the article history and talk page to see what I'm talking about. WesleyDodds (talk) 02:46, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to work on Jane's Addiction, I could help you out (if you notice, I did a little work there). Also, Brandt Luke Zorn and I are supposed to be collaborating on In Utero right now, but he seems busy and I've been distracted by R.E.M. articles (gettin' "Losing My Religion" ready for GA), so let us know if you want to help with that one. WesleyDodds (talk) 11:19, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

user block or page protection?[edit]

Hi there -- I'm a major contributor to the page for Once, and we're having edit war trouble with an IP user who posts from many IPs that start with 71.99. If you check the history, you'll see that this person insists on adding a Czech quote from the movie to the Plot section; another user and I have reverted, but this person keeps coming back despite discussion. Different users who say they know Czech have disagreed about what the phase in question actually is (and it's not verifiable for most English WP users), the phase isn't subtitled onscreen, and quotes in film plot summaries is not neceessary anyway. The talk page shows that the user has been uncivil, won't discuss, and ignores current and past discussions on the topic there and at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Films/Archive_16#Question_about_sourcing_in_plots_of_film_articles. But can a roaming user be blocked for edit warring? Does this merit page protection to ward off this anon editor? Thanks for your help. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Melty girl (talkcontribs) 04:24, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Franz Ferdinand[edit]

I noticed you've put in a lot of good work maintaining the state of the Franz Ferdinand (band) page. You may be interested in a dispute about the Franz Ferdinand page. It used to point to the disambiguation page - as, despite there being more searches for the band than the archduke, users will be interested in both topics. Unfortunately, it has recently been changing to point directly to the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria page. Could you read the discussion on the Talk:Franz Ferdinand page? I think your input would be of value. Thanks, Wardroad (talk) 15:25, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have, in the end, decided to take Analytical Review to FAC. I think I found enough material to make a comprehensive article. It has been expanded since your GA review. If you would like to see the changes and review it again, I would appreciate it. (You had mentioned on the talk page that you would like to be contacted if it went to FAC.) See Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Analytical Review. Thanks. Awadewit | talk 22:17, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have responded to the concerns you brought up on the FAC above. I have posted them thier for continuity in the FAC but so you can easily see my reasoning i shall post them below.

Response I was aware of that but i left it unchanged for the reasoning that throughout the article i have applied the following rule:
  • 0-9 are all in written form
  • numbers greater than 10 are written numerically except in the following cases: In storm names as the written form is the actual name of the storm, in the season summary section because you have six to fourteen in this section and so i wanted to maintain continuity as much as possible. I felt it was better to use the written form of fourteen as it resulted in fewer anomalies than changing all the 0-9's in this section to digit form. Seddon69 (talk) 00:09, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I hope that shows my reasoning behind the problem. Seddon69 (talk) 00:12, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Flea[edit]

Hey, I'm trying to get as many fresh eyes to read the article as I can before FAC. Could you run through it? Thanks. NSR77 TC 23:18, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I only recently connected in my brain that if articles can be restored than images probably could be, as well. Unfortunately, this came after I already uploaded and re-added everything. NSR77 TC 23:35, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I haven't played it in ages, so I'll have to give it a listen. Or, better yet, I could send it to you through email, if you wish. NSR77 TC 17:09, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Husker Du sources[edit]

Check it. I've been meaning to show you this for a year, but I forgot about it. WesleyDodds (talk) 00:31, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I too used it primarily for song tabs. Although I still can't figure out the little C# riff during the verse of "Charted Trips". "I Apologize" is fun to play. WesleyDodds (talk) 00:40, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You know what sucks? In the American airing of "Seven Ages of Rock", they cut out the Husker Du segment. I had to go on YouTube right now to watch it. WesleyDodds (talk) 10:14, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Husker Du[edit]

There's one or two items cited in the article from the hardcover of Our Band Could Be Your Life, but feel free to change those and add citations from your paperback version. I have a source for the influence on Green Day, and I think I have one for Soul Asylum. WesleyDodds (talk) 21:49, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and looks like you have another FA. WesleyDodds (talk) 09:41, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That works, since I was looking to focus on the Musical Style and Legacy sections anyway. Oh, and regarding The Replacements, the band they've influenced the most seems to be The Goo Goo Dolls, so you'll want to look for quotes from them. WesleyDodds (talk) 11:54, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
True story: I woke up this morning and for some reason one of my first thoughts was, "What are the great, essential alt-rock bios/histories"? Come as You Are, Our Band Could Be Your Life, and John Harris' Britpop book were immediately at the top of my list. WesleyDodds (talk) 00:33, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New issue of Spin has a Bob Mould interview. Might be on the website right now. I wouldn't bother paying import prices over there for it, though. WesleyDodds (talk) 13:00, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Two more pictures to put up at the Portal: [2], [3]. Been trying to look for good images from the more notable bands. I was trying to find a good Foo Fighters/Dave Grohl one, but none really stood out, and was looking for a NIN one, but the best image is the one in the infobox, and I didn't want to create a redundancy with that and the "Featured Article" box image for the article. WesleyDodds (talk) 12:49, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to be busy in the next day or so, so if could lend a hand on the Husker Du article that would be great. WesleyDodds (talk) 04:46, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Here's a good one for the portal, if we can clarify the rights (the Flickr page says "All Rights Reserved"). WesleyDodds (talk) 06:28, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pearl Jam article controversy[edit]

Hi, I was refrenced to you since you had done much work on the Pearl Jam article and i wanted to ask you something in regards to the disscussion about the line in the Pearl Jam article stating they were the most popular band of the 1990's. Considering bands like Metallica, R.E.M., Nirvana, and RHCP sold as much or even more (Metallica and R.E.M. both sold much more records the Pearl Jam did), it should be removed or at least be changed to "one of the most popular bands" considering they were very popular. And as far as who is most influential no one can actually tell. I think it should be changed to "one of the most popular bands of the 1990's". After reading the disscusion page i found out that many people agreed with me. --Nirvana77 (talk) 18:53, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think I've gotten almost all of the information available in Our Band Could Be Your Life; feel free to rephrase sections and and renumber cites to fit your edition when you get a hold of your copy again. Speedy deletion of Template:Lead section/doc[edit]

A tag has been placed on Template:Lead section/doc requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{tranclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 05:48, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User Removing Notability Tags[edit]

I recently added a notability tag to Bow High School. The user User:Ken Gallager made an edit removing the tag and making no changes, and made a comment that implied that the article belonged to him. I reverted his edit, but if he makes any similar changes can you look into it? Thanks. Dimension31 (talk) 09:07, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
