Interesting, but doesn't strike me as particularly notable even if it weren't adspeak. It may be true for some definition of "first African hip-hop compilation produced for international release", but I have a Rough Guide to African rap that's been out since earlier this year, and I would be astonished to learn if even that was the first. In response to your question, I created a subpage by first creating a link to it from my main page (using the usual / notation), then following that red link and editing the content as with any other red link. I have no idea if there's a better way. --ScottDavis 12:05, 3 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I don't believe I ever objected? I modeled the section on the response to the 2005 London bombings, but didn't separate Head of Government comments from others. Thanks for the acknowledgement. I'm glad you're finding the plain names lists useful as you create and improve Victorian towns. Popups

It took about four hours (with a lot of cache-clearing and restarting and whatever else I could think of doing) for the popups to start working. But shortly after it started working, Safari started crashing every few minutes, which a lot of other people had reported happening with Safari. At that stage, I actually decided to try out mozilla firefox as my browser instead, which is what I've been using ever since. I suppose it depends whether you think the bonus of popups is worth the hassle of changing your browser. RMoloney (talk) 15:48, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

Davido, Victoria

Hi Cnwb, you oferred to check out Davido, Victoria while at the State Library this weekend on the Wikipedia:Australian Wikipedians' notice board. The Phantom user provided this book as a source: Broome, Richard and Frost, Alan. The Colonial Experience: The Port Phillip District, 1834-1850. The book appears in Google. Apparently it is mentioned in chapter 3. It's possible that it all chacks out. If you have some time on your hands and are able to get your hands on the book, would you mind looking into it please? see the noticeboard and article talk page/history for details of exchange if interested. Gippsland cat

Did you create Gippsland phantom cat by copying from Gippsland puma? The policy says not to do this. One: You must attribute the article the material came form in the edit summary of the new one to respect the copyright of authors in the original article under the GFDL. Two: The move link at the to does a similar job, but preserves the history of the article properly. Do you mind if I practice with my new admin powers to do the move properly? Sorry. I wasn't aware of the policy, and should have checked. At the time I made the redirect I thought I was the only author of the original, but now I remember that others had contributed also (I was lazy, and I should have checked the history). There was also discussion on the Australian Noticeboard about moving the article to a more appropriately named one. maps

Hi thanks about your comment about my maps, I use Corel Painter to make most of them. I'm starting to learn how to use different layers with it at the moment, such as a separate layer for each colour for street maps, then they go easily together. I dont think I could do them other than the most simplest ones without a program which used layers. Well I wasnt sure which one you were referring to but maybe that gives you some idea. re: Rove McManus links

I see your point about the links. Someone had accidentally included a bad link there (the original one was quite good), and then doubled up. So I got rid of one. They might be home pages, but they list a lot of useful information about Rove McManus. The more information the better, right? Most of it is verified on Rove's official homepage, so I think that we can say that they are accurate. Maybe that is a topic for debate though. Do you need a 2nd link when on Rove's own site it says much the same things? (just a bit more difficult to find). I would just rather have more info than less. Hey there. I'm pleased to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator! You've volunteered to do housekeeping duties that normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except patent nonsense like "aojt9085yu8;3ou"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, ban anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on Votes for deletion (provided there's a consensus) for more than one week, protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Wikipedia up to date.

Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. Squizzy Taylors Hotel

Dont be paranoid-it came up on a search of 'melbourne hotels' Will keep an eye out for the 'correct' names for them--up until say 1980 most of the inner city pubs were dives filled with old, old diggers reminiscing,pissed out of their tiny minds. And importantly all preserved as tho' it was still 1951. Up until 1979 the 'royal derby' was particularily untouched the 'D' in 'Derby had fallen of and read the 'royal erby' If only I had the sense to photograph it. But you never do. more on pubs

Its just occurred to me that the 'Sun' newspaper in 1986 had a two page display/map of pubs of Melbourne central from the 19th C--one day I will get a copy from a library-one name that sticks in my mind is the 'The lamp of Diogenes'--also the oldest remaining pub in Victoria(just the building it hasnt operated as a pub for decades) is 'the Dover' hidden away in the Gertrude/Brunswick/Nicholson block behind st Vincent. It was to be pulled down in about 1983 and was saved by the barest of threads and is now a tarted up office building or somesuch. Those frigging St Vincent catholics have a lot to answer for as they have monstered that whole area for their own interests. Hope this is of use. Lentisco 05:18, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Delete Reasons

When you delete a page with an (A7) after it, but no readable english reason - can you explain what the A7 stands for please (I cannot find a page of delete codes)

Hi Michael. The 'A7' is shorthand for one of the criteria for speedy deletion (see Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion). In particular, A7 is "Unremarkable people or groups. An article about a real person, group of people, band or club that does not assert the importance or significance of its subject. If the assertion is disputed or controversial, it should be taken to AFD instead".

If I deleted a page which you feel did not deserve to be deleted, please let me know, and restore it, and, if neccessary. put it up for AfD. Hope this helps. cheers. Cnwb 00:00, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation. You did delete a page on Kathleen Elsie Waddle. Have mixed feelings about the reason. This lady was a principal of the school it was linked to, The school has named one of its 5 "houses" after her - with a 150 year history of the school - they must place some importance to her - she was also another victim of an episode that has great notice in Austalian history - the 65 nurses from the HMS Vyner Brooke sinking. However, the article as it stood was not up to scratch. Perhaps can you make the text available to me, and I can try and improve and resubmit? I have restored the article (Kathleen Elsie Waddle). I would argue that she isn't quite notable enough, but I don't want to discourage you, seeing as you're relatively new, and have been doing some good solid work on New Zealand education articles. As the article currently stands, I don't know if it would make it through an AFD (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion), but I'm not going to nominate it, because I want you to have a chance to improve it first. Guess where I live? Considering this statement, By 2006 the site had been abandoned and is being considered for development as apartments I can confirm for you that it's all well been gone ahead with. :) Also, check out some pictures I've taken of the brickworks. I have higher res versions of them on my harddisk. I guess this one is probably the best for showing what's become of the brickworks... what do you reckon?

So I borrowed a few books from the Brunswick lib and I've just had a look at them today:

• Street names of Brunswick (Les Barnes, 994.51 BAR) - has the origins of the name of each street, as well for some of the bigger ones, a short list of buildings/shops that were at each site at various times
• Brunswick's history: an annotated bibliography (Chris Johnston/Brunswick Community History Group, 994.5 JOHN) seriously just a bibliography - lists sources according to topic, including Aboriginal history, Architecture & buildings, Education & culture, Natural history & environment, etc.
• Brunswick: stories and histories (Brunswick Comm History Group, 994.51 BRU) Has some interesting pictures, like a horse-drawn tram! (would be best to source the originals, though, for resolution) and great little chapter/stories on things like the brickworks, Brunswick Baths, particular people, even a history of Merri Creek.

Also, I have seen the name of the Retreat Hotel turn up quite a few times (originally the Retreat Inn) - it was the first hotel in Brunswick, est. 1842. That and the Brunswick Baths, I'd add to your page in progress. :)

Yeah, the housing's all behind (you don't have to go far to see it these days though). Some of the photos, well, I suppose you'd call it trespassing, I just call it a lively interest in the world around me... :)

There is a proposal from the apartment peeps at the moment to expand the housing. I'm not really sure what it's about, but there's a community/heritage group that wants to stop them and I think the council is accepting comments on the proposal at the moment. pfctdayelise 13:19, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

Need Help and Thanks

Got your message and i see what you mean, no point having an article devoted to a show that is particulary small of insignificant. I will still do a wiki entry for MDR and at least one show (as it has become quite popular recently and the people who run the show may be going places very soon - definitely one to keep an eye on!) Also need a little help on how to get around Wikipedia, what i'm supposed to do etc.. Is there anywhere i can read for more advanced instructions? Long ago I read basics but I need more advanced knowledge now. Football

I noticed that you reverted User:Joeljoslin's categorization of football back to football. If I recall correctly, this is how SBS call the sport, as does the rest of the English-speaking world, ie not Australia. Should this not be the way it should be used in the article??. I can't remember where, but I've seen this issue discussed before, and the result was to stick with regional standards (ie. if the article is about an Australian subject, then the language should reflect that used in Australia). I may be wrong on this, but I'll look into it further. Actually, I'll put it to the Australian Noticeboard, as I'm sure I've seen it come up before. Cnwb 05:27, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

Sorry to be a bit of a nusance and reply to your message here, unless thats where i'm supposed to reply of course : ) Thanks for the comments, it would be good to get all the suburbs with that much information in them. Somers is a fantastic place, theres not much to do there, more of a family expirience, or if you've got a boat there or a beach house, more of a place of self discovery. If you want some fun and exciting things to do theres plenty all over the mornington penninsula. I'd recomend sailing, ask to crew for somone, or make friends, don't rent a sailboat unless you know how to sail of course, but sailing on westernport is brilliant. Arthurs seat at night also brilliant. And just relax, soak all of Somers in. Enjoy it. Nick carson 13:04, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Nick, don't worry - replying on my talk page is exactly what you're supposed to do. Some users also copy their replies onto their own talk-pages, to keep things looking coherent (I sometimes do this, and will do it with this message to show you). Hope this doesn't sound too confusing.

hehe, yeah sounds perfect, I was going to suggest mini golf but as it has been revealed that wouldnt be such a great option. I think me and my girlfriend will go to arthur's seat at night, I won't say too much about the place at night, you'll see what I mean though if you ever get to go : ). Don't forget the sunset over flinders and cape schank from Merrick's Creek Inlet, or the main beach near the yacht club, it'll be around 8:50somthing. I took some photos of it starting 8:30, just perfect.

Lots of things are confusing me at the moment, but I'm getting there for sure. If you want any pictures of Somers or any more information about it just ask. And don't forget the melways ; ) you'll never get to that lighthouse without it Nick carson 13:22, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
