This is simply for archiving/learning purposes. Now I know how to make proper looking templates in both IE and Ff.

On my computer, (WIN XP SP2, Ff 1.5.0.3 and IE6, 1680x1050), this template looks flawed. Here is a screenshot of what it looks like on my computer. All that empty space is not desirable. If I edit the template to remove all the
s, then I think it looks a lot better. However, I'm not too experienced with templates, so I don't know what effect it will have. Here's how it looks after I remove all the
s. (Both images hosted on imageshack) Since you created it, can you advise me as to what would happen if I go through with this? I am using Explorer in browsing and editing wikipedia articles. And I'm not having any problems which you have mentioned. The view through the Explorer, strangely, is similar to the image you posted with the correction (without the
, despite actually having it). Further, I applied the
s so that the year will not be separated from the appropriate title. So in terms of reconciling the appearance from Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, I am not really familiar since I just learned how to make and edit templates for a little over a month now. But your point is valid, an editor also once asked whether there was an error in a template I made before since it looks weird using Mozilla. Joey80 09:12, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
So should we fix it? If it looks the same in IE, then I say we should go ahead. I see your point about not splitting the titles and years, but I think aesthetics is better served without the
s because the splitting will occur only on certain screens (depending on the resolution, which determines width, which determines where the line "breaks"). However, i see how the blank space will only occur on certain screens due to the IE and Mozilla difference in rendering and also due to screen size. The differences are probably not as evident on a narrower resolution than my widescreen. In addition, at the moment, if you narrow your window enough, you can get the automatic line breaks to occur as well as the forced
s. This will show some splitting.
I propose we remove the
s becuase white space is more disturbing than split years, to me at least. Copysan 10:17, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, how about using
instead of
. The function is more encompassing than the simple
. I previewed the page using this and the appearance in unaltered in Explorer, how does it look through Mozilla? Joey80 05:39, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know much about HTML, so I don't know the effects of
. I suspect you mean replace all the
s with
s. When I did that, the effect looks to be same as the original template. Copysan 07:49, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, so it didn't do any good. Maybe we can post the problem in the help section so we can find a way to reconcile the format between Explorer and Mozilla. Joey80 07:56, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Go ahead and post it to the help board, you can use my screenshots in your posting as well. Copysan 08:10, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Done! Posted it in under the technical section. In any case, I asked for possible suggestions to be directed to you since I don't use Mozilla and don't have it. Feel free to edit the template. Joey80 08:26, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The version now looks great on Ff. What do you think? Copysan 20:28, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good in Explorer too! Joey80 03:10, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have a problem with a format for a template. Referring to Template:AcademyAwardBestPicture_1961-1980, in which I used
to ensure that the movie title won't be separated from the year it won, the appearance looks alright when viewed from Explorer, but when using Mozilla, it looks like this. Can someone help us out? Copysan and Joey80 08:23, 30 May 2006 (UTC) (Please direct suggestions to Copysan since I don't have Mozilla in order to determine whether the suggestion is working properly, thanks!)[reply]

You've lost me. In that image, no movie title is separated from the year in which it won. For gluing them together, I don't see why you'd use
(or, since this is XHTML
). Instead, 1964: ''[[Revenge of the Killer Vampires|Revenge of the Killer Vampires]]'', no? -- Hoary 08:57, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The issue seems to have been resolved by User:Ian Moody. Kudos to him! It looks fine on my Firefox now. I'll ask User:Joey80 what he thinks. You can also use {{nobr}} instead of . --cesarb 05:22, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
