Please use edit summaries ...

Information icon Hi there! Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. Thanks! Softlavender (talk) 02:13, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

Titles

Just spotted your {{DISPLAYTITLE:''Façade'' discography}} coding. Excellent: I have wondered for ages how to do that, and shall copy henceforth. While I'm here, let me echo SoftLavender's note above about edit summaries. It is regarded as poor practice when an editor can't be bothered to add a word or so describing a new edit. Thank you, I am glad you like it. Concerning the edit summary, it is difficult for me to use it as I am not a native speaker of English. Cote d'Azur (talk) 18:13, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
I am regularly astonished and rather humbled by non-native speakers of English who do such marvellous work on the English WP. Bravo! As to the edit summary, just put in a word or so explaining your changes and to Hell with the grammar! Cordialement, Tim riley talk 19:46, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
  • (talk page stalker) Cote, your English is flawless: [1]. Please use the edit summary on each of your edits, and make very clear what you are doing, and if possible, why. Thanks very much, and hi Tim! :-) Softlavender (talk) 21:04, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
I did not write the Giselle synopsis, I only restored the text after the vandalising of Act II. Cote d'Azur (talk) 21:49, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
This points up again why using an edit summary is imperative. Because you did not explain that edit, the text is attributed to you. Your English is obviously fine [2]. If you can edit Wikipedia, you can leave an edit summary. Please remember henceforth to always leave one. You need to do so everywhere except your own userpage. Thank you.
