Well, still cannot get VS to run...

Hello, I have requested technical assistance here before, but I still cannot run VS. I do not know if I have an old version of Mono (the one that came with openSUSE 10.2, installed with YaST), bad VS download, or me being an idiot (probably the latter :P), but VandalSniper will not work. When I type ./vs.exe, I get the following bash error:

bash:Cannot execute bianary file

And when I type mono ./vs.exe, I get a window for a split second, but then this error:

It sounds like you are missing the xulrunner package for your distribution. Try installing it and trying again. --Chris (talk) 17:33, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
openSUSE 10.2 apparently does not have a xulrunner package, any idea of where to get one? -- Oldlaptop321 (talk · contribs) 19:41, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
Try searching here: http://software.opensuse.org/search. --Chris (talk) 02:53, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi! I know you're monitoring this user. Just to defend this user's actions, I haven't actually seen any edits that overly promote the bars. Cadburys is a well known brand name in the UK, and the bars, whilst not necessarily needing separate articles, are notable enough to go into a single article. Going by WP:AGF I would say that this user is someone who likes chocolate and needs a bit of guidance to article writing. Stephen! Coming... 18:47, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

This is very possible. If you have the time feel free to try to mentor them. I'd suggest clearing out all the warnings on the talk page first so they can read their messages better.  :) --Chris (talk) 18:49, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
I'm not much of an editor, so I am probably not the best person to mentor them LOL! However, I have done as you suggested and blanked the warnings. I have replaced it instead with a welcome template. I will try and keep an eye on the user as much as I can, and I'll see if I can find a suitable food related project to point them towards. Stephen! Coming... 18:57, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
Alright, sounds good. I'll keep an eye out too and try to assist the user. --Chris (talk) 18:59, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

Your comment, redirecting to WP:ANEW, for this persistent vandal, seems to be either incorrect or inappropriate. The user isn't edit warring and hasn't come close to breaking WP:3RR. The user keeps recreating pages that were concluded as Delete or Merge following AfD, and has been warned against this, recently, and with escalating seriousness. The behavior persists following a two-week period, and the user continues to disrupt Wikipedia. This is clearly a case of vandalism, not edit warring. Please check again.  X  S  G  03:05, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

I have responded at AIV. --Chris (talk) 03:11, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
Thank you. I'll go read there.  X  S  G  03:12, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

My article on "Tom Sawyer, Avenger" is being vandalized by an anonomous user who wants it deleted. He is a rogue who goes around pasting deletion notices to many articles. What is the problem with the article itself, and how are you involved? --Frodo3019 (talk) 00:22, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

When an article is nominated for deletion, then there is a one-week debate over the article. Unless WP:SNOW can be invoked, then the deletion debate notice must stay on the article. This allows the deletion debate to be known about and encourages more input on the page. You are feel free to note on the AfD page that you would like the article kept. --Chris (talk) 00:23, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
I was the one who originally created the article. How is it that anyone, especially an anonomous IP without a user name can slate an article for deletion, and demand that the article's creator cease and desist protecting his own article? I've reviewed his history, and it is a history of malicious conduct against other editors. I tried listing an outside article, a story written on "Tom Sawyer, Avenger" in 2001, but somebody has deleted that. The debate, thus far, is comatose. What do I do in the meantime - nothing? --Frodo3019 (talk) 04:14, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
"I was the one who originally created the article." On Wikipedia, the original author has no more claim to the article than anyone else does. I'd recommend reading Wikipedia:Ownership of articles.
"How is it that anyone, especially an anonomous IP without a user name can slate an article for deletion..." Because Wikipedia is a collaborative project. Everyone is on the same footing, regardless of anonymity.
"and demand that the article's creator cease and desist protecting his own article?" Again, it's not your article, it's Wikipedia's article. If you publish it on your website, then it's your article.
"I've reviewed his history, and it is a history of malicious conduct against other editors." Can you point out some specific examples? What I see is new page patrol, not maliciousness. Remember to assume good faith, unless you have specific evidence to the contrary.
"I tried listing an outside article, a story written on "Tom Sawyer, Avenger" in 2001, but somebody has deleted that." I noticed that. I expect it's because the article cannot be linked to directly, which makes it unsuitable as a reference. I tried for about fifteen minutes to obtain a direct link to the article you referenced and the website makes it impossible to access the article unless you have previously searched for it.
"The debate, thus far, is comatose." The debate is not over yet. I would suggest following Multixfer's advice on that page -- look for sources and don't point fingers at other people claiming malicious intent. The former is productive, the latter is not.
"What do I do in the meantime - nothing?" The best advice I can offer is to look for more sources and try to establish notability per Wikipedia's notability guideline for books.
Let me know if I can be of any more help during this process. --Chris (talk) 14:52, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your assistance

Recently a few of my edits were incorrectly reported as vandalism. You very quickly determined the edits valid and reinstated them. I appreciate the prompt rectification.

Not a personal attack, but a visual fact. Spartan9199 (talk) 21:11, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi there. Way back in 2006, you proposed this article for deletion; it was kept, but four years later, I still don't think it's a notable term, and have nominated it for deletion. Your comments are welcome at WP:Articles for deletion/Retro housewife. Robofish (talk) 18:18, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi. I was not involved with that article at all, but I'm thinking you don't know where that "YOU SUCK!! nonsense" comes from. In case you didn't know, it comes from this, something that everyone should have known of! :) -- Schfifty3 03:16, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Of course I know where it comes from... I've been an Al fan for a lot of years. As soon as I watched the video I headed over here to add the article to my watchlist!  ;) --Chris (talk) 11:17, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
Good choice, fellow WAY fan. I sometimes think that most editors here shouldn't be so "formal" in their contributions and instead have a more comedic taste, such as in watching that video! Schfifty3 01:21, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi Crazycomputers, while you've got your deletion hat on, could you delete this page? I moved the page you deleted from there because of capitalisation, but you deleted the target page without also removing the redirect. Thanks. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 15:41, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Done, thanks for bringing that to my attention. I forgot to check "what links here." :S --Chris (talk) 15:42, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Kidding

Hi, I'm relatively new on Wikipedia so I was hoping if you could explain to me why on the Kidding page, which has absolutely no content in it, you removed the db-transwiki I placed on the page, when it seems clear to me that all information on the page has been moved to Wiktionary? (I didn't exactly understand your edit summary) Jenks24 (talk) 16:17, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

The page currently contains a soft redirect to the Wiktionary entry on the word. People looking for information on the word will then at least be able to find it easily, and the page does no harm. --Chris (talk) 16:19, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
OK, thanks for clearing that up for me Jenks24 (talk) 16:22, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

ofHuman page deletion.

I was in the middle of editing this page yesterday, when I had to step away from my computer for the night. I returned today to finish the article, and it has been deleted. If it's possible to restore what I've started on, I can try and finish it today. This page is about a band in Columbus, OH.

KSE (talk) 16:54, 1 July 2010 (UTC) -Dan

The article was deleted because it did not assert how the band was notable. Are you able to satisfy the criteria listed there? --Chris (talk) 16:55, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

PRoVisG page

Hi,

I am Minh-Tri Pham, a research fellow at the University of Surrey, United Kingdom. I am new to the wikipedia community. I am involved in a European Community's FP7 Project called PRoVisG. I understand that the previous content of the PRoVisG page, uploaded by one of my colleagues, did not contain enough information to present its notability, and was deleted. An hour ago, I uploaded new content to the PRoVisG page, which includes a number of sources citing the PRoVisG project. I believe these sources are sufficient to prove the notability of the PRoVisG page. May I kindly ask why the page was deleted immediately after I uploaded the new content?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards, Minh-Tri Pham

Hello, the page was deleted as a repost of earlier content. I must have been looking at the wrong earlier version when determining whether they were similar enough for the new article to be considered a repost. I will undelete the article shortly. (Note that this does not necessarily mean that the community will not elect to delete it again.)
However, I would like to direct you to our guideline on editing with a conflict of interest. As you appear to be involved in this project on some level, it is generally frowned upon if you make substantial edits to its article.
Cheers, --Chris (talk) 21:10, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for your quick reply. I will follow the guideline that you forwarded.
Best regards, Minh-Tri Pham. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Inteplus (talkcontribs) 21:20, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Civlity

Hello! In my ardent quest for a quality Encyclopedia I may have said some less than civil things. But whenever it came down to actually working on an article I have done nothing but show a willingness to work with someone towards the goal of Wikipedia. If you had looked my edit history, I hope that would shine through. Apparently not.... anyway I assure you I'm aware of the issues you brought up and do try my best to adhere to them. Beam 17:41, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately, it only takes one incident to tarnish a reputation. All of your work on Wikipedia should be to the end of improving articles and creating a friendly community. Personal attacks and incivility, no matter whether made "working on an article" or not, do not further the goals of the project.
Cheers, and happy editing! --Chris (talk) 17:52, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Deleted Blast Hole Drill

Hi Crazycomputers, actually this is just a chance to apologize; my creation of the Blast Hole Drill page was inadvertent - otherwise I would have actually filled it with content!

More than anything, there is a need to get Blast Hole Drill content on to the Drilling Rig page, and will go that route if/when I have good content for that page. Regards. Andrewgrosman (talk) 14:21, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

No harm, no foul, no apology necessary. If Wikipedia editors were perfect, the project would be mostly done by now. :) --Chris (talk) 19:46, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Email reply

The following was emailed to the above user. --Chris (talk) 18:56, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia has a policy against using multiple accounts, especially to avoid criticism of one's edits. It seemed like you were using a secondary account to get around the fact that people had already been trying to community the inappropriateness of your actions on the talk page of your original account. <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:ILLEGIT>.

However, even if this was not the case, please be aware that using Wikipedia for self-promotion is explicitly prohibited under policy. It is inappropriate to use the server resources provided by the encyclopedia project to promote your business. This kind of behavior is not accepted. <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:PROMOTION>.

I have noticed that on your Craigslist ads you link to many sites, such as your own website, MySpace, Wikipedia, and others. This indicates to me that you think of Wikipedia as a free web host, or as some kind of social network. Neither of these assumptions are true. <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:NOTWEBHOST>.

If you would like to help contribute to building an encyclopedia, and not create or edit articles about yourself, I will be happy to unblock you. But your appeal on my talk page does not indicate that you want to build an encyclopedia, it indicates that you want to continue to promote your business. You are free to promote your business on your own website, and I don't have any issues with that, but you may not do so on Wikipedia.

If you have further questions, please feel free to ask them.

YouTube and SPS

I think I am totally spamming with messages to both you and Sceptre right now. You mentioned self published sources and YouTube. Self published sources and YouTube can be OK but both present all sorts of problems that make using YouTube not appropriate most of the time (I think Sceptere's +99% might be close even). If you have the chance, would you mind taking a look at Wikipedia:Video linksto see if the wording should be adjusted? Cptnono (talk) 05:43, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

Michigan gubernatorial election, 2010‎

Thanks for watching over the Michigan gubernatorial election, 2010‎. You may want to read the talk page as the article can use updating because of a new poll mentioned in the talk page with a supporting link which can be used for a citation. Also, the Democratic candidate's running mate may be appointed over the weekend which would require another update once the running mate is announced. Thank again. Steelbeard1 (talk) 17:13, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

No problem. Note that if the edit you are requesting is supported by consensus, you can use the {{editprotected}} template on the talk page to request an administrator to perform the edit for you. --Chris (talk) 17:32, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, Chris. I'm trying to insert the template, but it's not showing up. Steelbeard1 (talk) 17:49, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
{{tl}} is a template for linking to other templates. You are creating a link to it. Instead of pasting {{tl|editprotected}} into the talk page, you need to paste {{editprotected}}. --Chris (talk) 17:52, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

I have left him a warning. By the way, if you would like to report someone for incivility in the future, it may be wise to do so without being uncivil yourself. --Chris (talk) 23:25, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, but IMO his reply [2] indicates that he just doesn't get it, apparently he thinks that if somebody makes an argument he thinks is invalid, he can reply with a personal attack.  Dr. Loosmark  21:28, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
It would seem so. That won't excuse him from any future incivility though. --Chris (talk) 21:36, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Watch inflation

Hello,

I think you need to watch the inflation article very closely, especially what BigK HeX is doing. Read what he said on the talk page under section "What now?". He is expecting me to get blocked for undoing his unilateral deletion of consensus text. Well I undid it. Will I get blocked for this like I did last time? Or will you do the right thing and take an objective look at what is going on, and spot the real vandal here? Misessus (talk) 23:22, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

King "edit warring

Edit warring is a two-way street. Please also give Malik Shabazz and TVoz this same warning. In addition please infom them to stop removing reputable sources and sentences or they too will be blocked. I'm the one who have compromised and accepted thier changes. If you look at the discussion page it was agreed on that MLK was representive of liberalism. It is also agreed upon by just as many users that he is popular with the conservatives (not representative, but popular). They have removed this information despite the fact that its in just as much of a consensus and the information that they are trying to remove.Therock40756 (talk) 23:42, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
